Just a couple of highly talented players is all we are short of.

OK United. Live up to your rhetoric. This squad is OK at best. Sign us a couple of loanees from the Prem, then we can go onwards and upwards.

How are you Simon Clough on available talent in the Prem? There must be plenty available.

Personally I would go for a central defender and a full back.

Great idea !
Only thing is how many of this abundant available talent wants to play in division 3 ?
I know we had Coady and Bray last year but would others follow ?

Clough has already said he wants to add a central defender to replace Harry Maguire to the squad.

He won't panic buy and just purchase anybody, harry has big shoes to fill.

Still a few weeks left of the window.

There is loads of activity in the Premier League as managers put the finishing touches to their squads. There will be opportunities to take young lads on long term loans and Clough has the reputation to attract the lads and satisfy their managers they are being developed properly.

Looking at pre-season and the first two games, we need defenders and maybe even a defensive midfielder if Doyle's time is up.

You don't think we have enough at centre back with mcghey, butler, Collins, Kennedy and with the looks of things Alcock too.
It's the wing backs that worry me, a good wing back helps the likes of Flynn and murphy big time. They were brilliant last season and I think it's because of who they were supported by...
But this season I think they might be held back a bit

I certainly don't! I count quality not quantity. We need a very good kingpin centre-back as a matter of priority. We also need (however many we already have) a commanding central midfielder. I hope a fit James Wallace may be that player.

If I go to a concert to see Smokey Robinson it's no good telling me he can't make it but don't worry, his 12 backing singers are here.

12? Think you're mistaken Pinchster, that's his harem!

I suspect Clough is not happy with Butler up to press and he may well have decided that Collins is past his best which was probably not quite good enough for the longer term anyway.

The same might well apply to his opinion of Doyle.

Last Saturday's team selection stunned me. I don't think it was impulsive, more the frustration of a poor pre-season. In any case the Alcock / McGahey combination looks nowhere near good enough for a promotion season to me. As for Kennedy, Clough described him recently as a development player. So is McGahey in my opinion actually. Alcock did well but looked desperate at times, uncomfortable in that position.

IMO McGahey is not a development player ( not saying he won't develop mind :D ) he's part of the first team squad like Reed and will be challenging week in week out for a starting place unless he really drops off.

Early days but he's got a lot going for him and if Nigel's trust and belief is repaid we could have some player on our hands.

Isn't every team "just short a couple of players" though?

Heard Aaron Neville a about 10 years ago. Voice had gone

Really? Then an angel must be using it somewhere! I had the same genuinely sad experience on the last two occasions I saw Meatloaf. In
case you are wondering, I gave him the benefit of the doubt the first time!

An age thing with Aaron though Pinchy. He was in his 60s (must be mid 70s now?) then and you could here the voice was just worn out.

He's 73 mate. Happily his voice sounds as good as ever on my iPod! Same goes for Marvin. Pele is pretty good on DVD as well.

Tell it like it is. :)

Do you know what, I was watching the other day, Woody still belts a hell of a free kick and his corners are still masterful! And that bleeding Boycott is STILL batting! :D
