Jury's out on Clough

I do hope the addition of the three new players all at once hasn't took us back the Weir days again...

Why? Their delusions of grandeur and total inability to live with reality is what I really despise about the Pork.
I was at Hillsborough on Saturday and the level of abuse they threw at their own was unbelievable. Terribly negative standpoint from most around where I was. They seem to leave all the "massive" talk at the turnstiles.

I know football fans are generally a pretty negative bunch but I always get the impression it's mainly just semi-ironic self-deprecation. Their bunch however sounded genuinely angry and hateful.

Regarding Clough, I'm not sure some of our fans understand what a colossal shit-pit our club was in before he came in. The change in effort, fitness and body-language IS amazing to my eyes, but the hangover is still very heavy and I think what we've got at the moment is a "2 steps forward, 1 step back" situation.

The only thing I have against Clough is he's a hypocrite, when we drew at home with Bradford he said "a two goal lead is difficult to hang on too" but when we are two down at the mighty Crewe, he says "well they had a two goal lead, so they can just sit back"!!! Why can't we sit back then and hit teams on the break if we are two up? I like the man, but must do better all round!!

For me it would definitely be a NOT GUILTY verdict.

If we sack him (as some have suggested) who would we replace him with exactly? Sacking has worked so well for us in the past so lets just keep doing the same things and everything will be alright?

I live in Lincoln (as some may have guessed) and Lincoln City are prime candidates for short sightedness which is what sacking Nigel Clough would be (IMHO).

The club needs stability and rebuilding from the roots up. I believe Nigel Clough and his team are the people to do this. I'm not saying I would like to see us relegated, far from it, but a rebuilding process does not happen over night and needs to be done over time. Sometimes to do this you need to go backwards (i.e. clear out dead wood) before you can move forwards.

I would think Swiss had his tongue firmly in his cheek when he posted that!!!! ;)

I like Clough, but do you think we would have been safer if we had of given the job to Morgan?

He got us on a roll, we started playing with passion again....we was attacking teams now we seem more concerned about not losing!

I've tried to calm down after going to Crewe on Saturday but I'm of the opinion that Clough doesn't seem to know what he's doing

Yes that must be it! Does that mean Morgan, Weir, Wilson, Adams, Speed, Blackwell and Robson didn't know what they were doing either?

I guess it must and those at the top must know exactly what they've been doing for the last 8 years.

No time to read to entire thread, but back to the OP - of course the jury is out on Clough - why wouldn't and shouldn't it be? He's far from under pressure, because of what's gone before. We've been wank for so long that it's clear our problems are deep set. But we've seen nothing so far, and Clough hasn't brought a track record, to suggest that out problems are about to end.

Clough is clearing up a whole load of mess dating back to Blackwells sacking and a series of disasterous appointments. Cough needs years to sort the mess out and talk of the sack is ridiculous but some Blades never cease to amaze me.

Save me reading through hundred's of posts - has anyone talked of the sack?

All this talk of jury out, sack him, back him, what if he oversees the drop to div 4, ( albeit not all his fault, because of the train wreck Called weir) and then says fuck it I'm off. Anyone know what is contract situation is, in terms of length. And will he stay and see the job out.

If we were relegated would you care much either way? I wouldn't.

Why sack him though? What would be the point in that? Id say we have had a 'better' (to glamorize it) run than when we was under that, there Wier.. Granted, he's not brought in a striker, but in Clough's Crewe reaction video he clearly stated that since the Fulham game the lads had built really well in training.
For me i could see how pain staking it was for him to come back on a three nill loss..

I think we have enough strikers in regards to Murphy, Flynn, Scougall, Paynter, Baxter & Porter who's role seem to be week in week out, "Attack the defense & shoot if the opportunity arises!".. I mean, granted, its a sorry state of affairs when your wingers are getting more goals than your forwards like (lol) but still, there all there to score goals rather than JUST get the ball in the box.
For me, i wouldn't say any of this heartache were all going through week in, week out is down to tol'd Cloughy, but more so the responsibility lies with the bloody players. Every week we hear how good training was, yet they hit the pitch and you have Maguire taking on strikers with his lanky legs tripping over themselves and giving away the ball. I'm sure he gets laid into at half time.
Clough came in and clearly stated that this year was to be taken to rebuild the squad. To stay in league one comfortably and start playing 'normal' football in regards to formation etc. For me he's done that..!! We won nothing under Wier except the friendlies and the season opener, was promised fancy football, and how were we rewarded for spending our hard earned cash?! Loss after loss after loss..

Something me and my friend talk about all the time is how we should have kept Big Kev. Fair does, it was a bumpy ride with him in charge but he was a bloody good manager and if he'd have been given 3 million in the January transfer window i reckon we'd all be speaking very differently.

If you look at the points won under Clough (18 from 14 games) and project that since the start of the season, we would be on around 34 points and mid-table now.
Whilst I agree that that's not brilliant, if you consider where he started from (8 points from 13 games and devoid of any confidence) I think he is doing a decent job. Results and performances like Saturdays will crop up from time to time, but are highlighted because of our predicament.
A few days ago we were applauding the decent work done in the JTW and now after a bad (ok terrible) result we are wanting to scrap the whole team!

We,ve got 17 points under clough not 18 P14 W4 D5 L5 = 1.2pts/game. :(

McCabe has got his man (name) and will be planning to stick with this man (name) for at least a few years.

In Clough it appears we have one of football's few gentlemen. He seems honourable, trustworthy, honest, calm under pressure, commands respect through fair rule and mutual respect for others, loyal and knowledgeable. None of this "he's just got his badges so he's ready to manage" bullshit, this guy has been around football from the day he was born and barring some total meltdown, I'll pin my colours to the mast and say I'd be happy to see him here for years to come.

I'm kind of with you...

Collins, Doyle, hill and porter are all players who'd run through brick walls, the dependable few if you like. They're all limited in terms of talent, but they give the 100% applaud the fans and are generally the ones you want in the battle.

You either have a great sense of humour or you're winding me up!
