You know it, all the pieces of the puzzle are in place. Sabre rattling early on and a couple of possibly promising signs. Selling your best striker and leading scorer right at the end leaving you thinking they must have a plan B and be bringing someone better in. The money will be invested back into the team won't it?
Then you get to the last day and your heart is on edge. You know that SUFC will be exhausting every last possible way of getting those new players in who will push us forward. After all, who would sell their striker having only been there 5 months without having a nailed on replacement? Only an idiot would do that wouldn't they? You have Sky/BBC running on your laptop/PC/TV/Phone waiting for that all important signing. Its 8pm/9pm/10pm. You think sod it, I'll stop up till the close and we will see McCabe/Wilson turning every stone, doing every deal. We are the biggest club in the division, who wouldn't want to come to us?
Then you get to midnight and you realise you missed the statement leaked by the club around 7pm that all the deals have failed due to (insert shit reason here) and that we may have to look at the loan system.
You can cut an paste this into every transfer window this past few years. Lets face it we are a shadow of what we were even 5 years ago. Players don't view us any better than Notts County these days. Agents won't be saying "go to Sheffield United and it will be a great stepping stone in your career".
I'd just like to thank out Chairman for getting us here. If for some reason we do hit the jackpot by 11pm then someone wake me up because I may be dreaming.
