Surprised by some of the comments here

Young lad, first championship season and a flair player. By nature of the role you’re not going to get consistent performances and it will be up and down - with some games looking like a world beater and some struggling to make an impact.

You’re expecting miracles if you’re wanting consistency with creativity especially at this age. And if he could do all that already palace would not have loaned him out.

I like what I’ve seen - goes past players with ease and has already scored and assisted a non negliable amount.

It’s good brooks has hit a bit of form so we don’t have to rush him back from injury too soon. I expect he has a big role to play.

I’d like to see jrs and seriki play together. Seriki definitely opens up space for jrs. At minute all teams know to put 2 players on him when he has possession of the ball

They seem really keen on Jobe Bellingham and, more importantly, Ben Doak.
Presume they'd like the cash for JRS to fund a move for the latter. They probably regret not cashing in when Leeds offered daft money in the Summer.
I can't see anybody stumping up that sort of cash again in January. His form hasn't justified it.
Palace are after Roamain Esse too from Millwall, JRS is definitely available, let’s see if we can get him for a lot smaller fee that’s been quoted though if that’s the case, don’t let Palace do us without lube.

Palace have triggered Millwall winger Esse (id never heard of him either) £14.5m release clause. Just another example of how barmy transfer fees have gone.

When we played Millwall the commentators were talking him up a lot. He didn’t do a great deal against us from memory.

A bit more consistency & he’d be playing for Palace every week.

I think he lacks the pace and physicality to play at the highest level, he could still develop in those areas as he’s still young. Whether he has the dedication, desire and application to push himself to make those changes is the key. Although, from what I’ve seen of him so far, the word ‘Industrious’ is not one that springs immediately to mind.

On that basis, I wouldn’t be too concerned if he went back to Palace.
I've seen quite a bit of Palace lately on sky and there is no way JRS gets anywhere near their team because of the reasons stated by 1889 - he lacks the pace and physicality of Palace's other players.

True and they would expect at 22 years old that he would have that by now. As you need to have got the physicality early in your career if you want to be a Premier League footballer.

He might have a few tricks up his sleeve but to me lacks way too much to make it in the top two divisions. When he gets the ball he seems to want to slow it down and get it lodged in-between his feet, is this a new thing in the Premier league or something? Bizarre.

I think I'm with you on this, I'm just not convinced. When he gets the ball I always expect him to put afterburners on and drive into the box, but more often than not looks sluggish and just sort of, stops. He does do some good stuff at times though, just at an age where he's not yet consistent enough.

Still young and certainly has room to improve with good coaching.

Not sure if he's a big confidence player or like a lot of wingers, can blow hot and cold.

Does give off vibes of being really up for it or being a bit disinterested.

In fairness he did track back better last night than in some games but his defensive work could be improved a lot. Even when he got back last night he wasn't much more than a traffic cone for their wide player.

Brookes > JRS.

There I said it.

Happy for him to go back for another club to spunk £12m-£15m on him tbh. Leeds hopefully.

Young lad with room to grow but is severely lacking in key disciplines required in his position on the pitch.

Wouldn’t make my match day 18.

There I said it !

Complete lack of discipline. Love the fancy tricks but it’s no where near enough.

He should have been watching what Dan James was doing for Leeds last night, made space so he could make the runs at defenders on the back foot,he crosses the ball mainly at the right time also. James is a good championship player but not good enough for the premiership,JRS is way behind both standards at present. Up to him.

Absolutely 0 interest in getting back and helping out and he’s had nearly a full season.

On the occasions he does make half an effort to get back he doesn’t make a challenge.

I could forgive that if every time he got the ball in an attacking position he was utterly devastating but he isn’t.

Nothing against the lad but he’s not for me and wouldn’t be in my 11 as my wide players are expected to work hard forwards and backwards.

He made 3/3 successful tackles on Monday night which was more than Vini Souza for example so yeah… nah

The young lads learning his trade, looks lost most of the time, seems to drifts in and out of games, and finds it hard to do the defensive side, hopefully more matches will help him with this. Who knows with Another season on his head he might be the finished article, Doubt he's premier league though.

Looks full of talent but it is getting close to time that he starts showing it. Decision making still feels poor. I actually think his end product has improved but for a quick and skilfull player he seems to give defenders easy outs. He should be giving full backs at this level torrid times and he’s just not. I’d still start him and I’m not writing him off but any decision on whether I’d want him next year would be based on potential rather than anything I’ve seen him do regularly.

He also ambled back at least three times showing no interest in helping the RB … on several occasions when he did run back he just stood still and didn’t put a tackle in and he’s done it all season … so regardless … if you don’t run back as hard as forward and you’re not absolute quality in forward areas then it’s a no from me

Some people haven’t a clue sometimes, he’s a very good prospect and playing in a side that when they do attack they don’t attack with much pace or get many numbers forward, he gets doubled up but we very rarely exploit that like we should do, if he played in a team like Leeds he’d get an absolute hatful of goals and assists and look unreal. The tactics employed by us hinders a lot of our match winners, he’s one of them, him and Hamer need to be thanked for being here, fuck knows how we’d have gone on without these two creative wise.

He's scored more professional goals than the huge prospect Cannon, and at the same age so on that basis we need to pay at least £8m for him.

You can’t say he’s crap because he doesn’t want to tackle only to change the goal posts when you hear he made more tackles than our main defensive midfielder who was absolutely exceptional on the night.

JRS wasn’t the issue down the right for us Monday. Clarke continually got skinned by Solomon all night. Gave him way too much space and often wound up in a 2v1 with Firpo against JRS while Clarke was 10 yards away wondering wtf just happened.

I would love to know what people actually expected from a young and inexperienced winger on loan. He’d got a handful of appearances for palace and a loan at Charlton. Half our fan base slagged James mcatee off for 2/3rds of a season.

He’s up there with our best and more experienced players in terms of numbers and goal contributions despite missing a fair bit of football due to injury and Wilder subbing him off around 55/60 minutes. He’d was taken off Monday night just after beating his man 2/3 times in quick succession. Looked like he’d easily got another 10 mins in him at that point. He’s competitive in terms of his numbers versus the whole division and right up there against people in his age group.

What winger in world football tracks back and defends like a maniac and then has his fullback on toast all game long skinning him time after time. No one. Every winger apart from the worlds elite is somewhat inconsistent and the vast vast majority of them are weak defensively.

He’s been consistently doubled up on when playing with Gilchrist who was out of position and getting a nose bleed eveytime he crossed half way. Most teams sit back against us double up on JRS and try to stifle our attack. Unless he’s prime Messi he can’t continually skin two players eveytime.

People say Brooks is better. How? JRS has better numbers. Brooks has either looked unplayable at times or had full games where he’s been truly awful where the ball just bounces off him and he can’t pick a pass. Wilder openly said Brooks needs to do more in training to get more minutes so clearly isn’t putting the graft in but for whatever reason he seems to be able to do no wrong. Is it because he’s our academy prospect or just because he’s not JRS. Brooks was a little unlucky to lose his place at the start of the season but barring a couple of decent performances hasn’t done enough to win the shirt back. He’s been far more inconsistent than JRS literal full ends of the spectrum inconsistent.

Creative players often get a bad rep because only a small percentage of what they attempt actually comes off. But that’s the nature of the game. Without them we achieve absolutely nothing.

My only criticism of JRS is his defensive contribution. But I’d also say the same of BBD and Hamer. 🤷‍♂️

A bit silly when 15 of JRS 21 have come in League 1

There's something to be said for wingers working with the defensive coaches and wing backs working with the attacking coaches.

Maybe he would have done better than Hamer as he came on and put himself under pressure straight away getting his trademark booking almost immediately. half Hamers bookings have come the same way! late challenge slightly late so takes the man out! Booking!.
Hamer is not a good sub ( has to start.) tries too hard to get involved and loses his effectiveness. Could have drove a bus down our left-side late in the game.We closed down the right with Choudrey ! Maybe we didn't have the personal on the left although when we could see the game slipping away 3 at the back would have been a good option.
Hindsight is a great thing though!.

People might be shocked to see how good JRS's defensive stats are relative to the rest of the division's attacking wingers.

Claims that he doesn't track back look a little wide of the mark when he's won more tackles than any other attacking winger in the league in the defensive third....

6 goals and 2 assists with 12 games remaining isn't too shabby either. I wouldn't be surprised if his G/A attacking contribution compares favourably to McAtee's by the end of the season, yet people seem to have a big problem with JRS... I can guess what the difference is. Part of it is body language and personality and perhaps he's a bit less relatable to our average fan....?
