Quite good article about him in today's Mail. And some, er, interesting comments from readers at the end...

yep great read really. i like him, but think he had been a bit unfit and overweight this season. still he has bags of ability and is young so hopefully we'll see the best of him, maybe on sun?!!

He's not done much since he's been here, he may not even play in the semi-final. I'd say it's about 50\50 whether he gets picked. That's a slightly strange article for a guy struggling to keep his place in the team at a division 3 club. If he's so talented, he needs to pull his finger out and start working as hard as Brayford does. Then he may have something to brag about. I'm not hving a go at him, let's be honest it's the daily mail not a serious newspaper. It's like reading the beano how comical it is sometimes, they may not have even actually spoke to him and made up the quotes.

He seems like a player who would thrive in a higher division (which is fortunate, given our propensity for buying players who tend to do the exact opposite, i.e. Ched Evans). The physical aspect of his game is what concerns me, although there's never been any doubt as to his technical ability. He's easily pushed off the ball, which in his role as a front man is difficult to watch. However what he lacks in pace and strength he more than makes up for in vision (the cross for Flynn's goal v. Charlton). He's a great footballer, but not an athlete by any means.

How many times have we actually seen him play in his best position though? Coady was ineffective on the right, Hill is poor at left back, Harris and Freeman struggled as Wing Backs against Rotherham. It's so harsh to judge a player when he has barely played in his preferred role. We can judge him next season when we actually have a striker in the team.

If Porter plays over Baxter then I might cry, well sniffle a little

I see he divides opinion but the problem is, he's too quick a thinker for most of our lot. He puts the ball where it needs to be and people just can't get on the end of it. If he had played with Evans, the latter would have scored even more. i honestly think he's our best actually footballer by a mile, not sure what he has to do to prove that.

He could be fitter, I'll grant you, as it would stop him drifting in and out. But he'll kill it next season, I'm sure of it.

And if you play a short, slowish creative midfielder up front on his own, he might struggle.

The problem for Baxter is his best position is a position you build a team around , but he's not good enough for that in my opinion.

Maybe, maybe not. However, there's only one way to find out and that's by playing the lad there. I think he will be good enough, but that's only guessing at this stage as we haven't seen him in that position with the right players around him to assess Baxter yet.

Thought they both played well to be fair...especially Freeman

Hmm they did OK, think both are better as full backs though. Harris tended to struggle mainly when defending rather than when we went forward, don't think he was totally sure of his positioning.

He found himself engaging his opponent ten yards further forward than he normally would. So he seemed to back off to get back to where he'd normally be, but of course Hill was just behind him and had Harris dropping onto him.

The formation needs work as does the development of understandings. But I don't think we'll use it much with Murphy and Flynn in the XI.

I think if you play him off a front man rather than as a front man he'll be magic in League One. The problem is Schoolgirl is working well in that position but I don't see a long term future with both of them in the side competing for space and both dropping back too deep. It leaves no option for holding up the ball up top. Next season Ched Evans can lead the line and Baxter (my little Gentleman) can work off him. Exciting!

He's got magic in his boots. He doesn't look like or play like an athlete. If he did, he wouldn't be with us. Still a young man, so plenty to work with. That's down to him..and the right management to maybe a significant degree. I think we've got the latter in place, so we will see..As frustrating as Baxter is at times, I do enjoy having a player who is capable of doing something special

A few thinner pics of him there, he is one of those players that we will be talking about after the game but will it be for a good or bad reason?

It's a strange one, he is undoubtably one of our most talented footballers, but come next season I do not see how he and Scougall can play in the same team. Similar position and for me, it's Scougall everytime as the ability to get the ball and scare players with forward runs is much more destructive than Baxter's drifting with fleeting moments of brilliance role.

Baxter is like a poor mans (very poor mans) Matt Le Tissier - he will have a key role to play but I am not sure whether he will be an automatic starter next year for the reasons given.

I would be very happy for Cloughy to get in a goal poacher (easier said than done) and a quick guy who can play anywhere across the top and wide. This will make Baxter a more rotational player who can play in many positions. This will be vital for our many changing formations.

Clough did it at Derby and Burton - he likes having about 6 or seven good footballing midfielders, wingers or attacking midfielders who can interchange and play a variety of roles to be rotated through the season. Then he has a couple of defensive mid enforces.

All will play a vital role next season I have no doubt.
