Signing until end of season according to Giddings.

This surely has to be his final chance to salvage his career in league football? Clearly the Morgs connection that's got him this deal, cos I seriously doubt that any other team at this level would have touched him. Wilson will be aware of the talents he once showed as well from when he first took over at the lane. I suppose if anyone can get him to perform it'll be them.

Can't see it working out though and fully expect him to be playing non-league football next season.

Wilson used him a bit in those first couple of games before he was sold so it might not be all down to Morgs.

Be interesting to see if Wilson can get him playing.

Interesting to see where the line-up from the FA Youth Cup final have ended up, as of now...

George Long (SUFC regular)
Ben Montgomery (dropped out of football [to study, I think])
Harry Maguire (Hull regular now)
Terry Kennedy (SUFC - injury-plagued; clinging on)
Aaron Barry (Derry City)
Corey Gregory (Stocksbridge PS)
Matt Harriott (Wealdstone)
Elliott Whitehouse (Nuneaton Town - described recently as their "talisman")
Callum McFadzean (SUFC - clinging on)
Joe Ironside (Nuneaton Town)
Jordan Slew (Chesterfield - short-term deal)

So, two have "made it" of the five stand-outs (with, maybe, Elliott Whitehouse gearing up for a second chance in league football).

Best of luck to Jordan Slew. I'm not into harbouring grudges against him. Would be great to see the Gleadless lad come good (but he'd somehow have to remember how to score goals to stand a chance).

I have to say, that is a piss poor return.

I was going to post similar. Of those, Slew is one of the few that's made a decent living out of the game.

Yeah, considering the high hopes that were held for at least five, maybe more.

Terry Kennedy, I'm sure, would be forging a successful league career by now if it weren't for his terrible injury problems. But there's quite a few disappointments, not least Elliott Whitehouse (& good to hear he's seemingly thriving in non-league football now; hopefully he'll get another shot at a higher level).

Difficult to tell, comparatively, if it's a poor return though. With the dominance of the likes of Chelsea in youth football, with their multi-national line ups, it's difficult to trace how their players have gone on & done (although fair to assume that a decent number have done well). The Aston Villa side that reached the final the year before us also (seemingly) only had two that have gone on to forge league careers - Samir Carruthers at MK Dons & Daniel Johnson at Preston. Maybe just the two making it is just par for the course for a non-elite club? Very difficult to judge.

And, from the perspective of a few years later, it's difficult to begrudge him.

Hope he somehow makes it at Chessy, personally. The Blackburn move was a long while ago, & it's all water under the bridge.

Anyone remember Paul Pogba playing for the opposition? Looked about 26 even then! Surely Fergie's biggest ever mistake?

I thought he was immense in both stature and contribution and was amazed that they let him go for peanuts.

Our lads gave the the best youth set up in the country a run for their money, so it is sad that so few of them actually made it (if you count still being at BDTBL as 'making it').

Newton Heath's yoof set up has gone backwards since then despite the millions they lavish on it, so it's not just us.

A chance to back on track....maybe his last, should be interesting, he had the ability to succeed at this level...

When you see the Man U line up over the two games you wonder how we even competed.

Sam Johnstone (Preston)
Michael Keane (Burnley)
Sean McGinty (Aldershot)
Tom Thorpe (Rotherham)
Michele Fornasier (Pescara)
Ryan Tunnicliffe (Fulham)
Paul Pogba (Juventus)
Jesse Lingard (Man U first team)
Ravel Morrison (Lazio)
Gyliano van Velzen (Volendam)
Will Keane (Man U Reserves, few loans)

Bench:

John Cofie (Telford)
Zeki Fryers (Palace)
Tom Lawrence (Cardiff)

Not sure if it was on here, but someone posted that they'd been talking to a player at Cambridge who said that Slew was great in training, but always struggled in matches.

It is, but thats probably above average for Youth team players progressing to make a living from the game.
Most years, we`ve had none come through.

Makes Adkins 50% hope for the first team look a tad optimistic.

Depends how you look at it, if you say a moderately successful pro has an average career of 10 years then that's one a year. On the other hand that's discounting the club biting someone's hand off the second any to them looks as though they might be half decent..... Yeah you're right it is a bit optimistic.

Can't aggree to have at least 2 playing league football out of a squad is excellent that is up there with the best academy s around
the ratio of failure is very high even with premiership clubs. A number of others from that squad are in and around football league
teams. That was a good year for our academy, hopefully in the next few years we,ll match it or even beat it.

That was an exceptional year for man utd too as most have made it in the game.It was remarkable that we could compete with them
as the base line at man utd ( is far higher) with there world wide appeal gives them a massive advantage.,As I said earlier there failure
Rate is quite high even with the advantages they have
