As Kyle Walker gets a full call up, Jordan Slew is in the U19 squad.

Is anyone going to this one? Its a sell out, which is great for the youngsters and for local football fans

England v Germany
International Match
7.30pm, Tuesday 8 February 2011
B2net Stadium, Chesterfield FC

Slew was called up late as Alex Chamberlain was called up to the U21's

That's great news for the lad ...he's worked hard for the recognition so I hope he has a fantastic game .

Great news.

So he needs to make a couple of appearances in the first team and we should be able to get some more cash in.

Excellent news - good enough for England, so should now be seriously considered for a game with us

predict he will go out on loan to brighton, huddersfield or some top div 1 outfit

Having watched him fairly regularly, I'd disagree at the moment (though I'd rather stick him on the right wing that Yeatesy at the moment).

He's got potential, but he doesn't always apply himself that well and can be frustrating... He'd last half a game at the moment before getting crucified for not trying.

He isn't good enough to deserve a place in the team at the minute. Which is a little worrying considering that our current wingers are about as wanted as a dose in a convent.

He's not really played as a proper winger for a while though, more a striker who works the channels. I'd still give him a go there rather than upfront if we were really scratching around though.

If the kid is quick and knows how to stay onside then he'll be useful. Since Ward lost the plot we've had no threat in behind defences whatsoever.

Foxy/FB, I can't really comment as never seen the guy for myself, but it seems that very few of the others were applying themselves yesterday, and if it continues then I think it has to be time to blood a few youngsters?!

Got about 30 mins on the pitch last night and seemed to impress in the 1-0 defeat to Germany. Replaced Connor Wickham.

He looked tidy and a few chances found their way to him as well, give him a go on Sat if Ched's still rough

Well done Jordan owd cock. Dunt get injured, cos tha'll be needed at BDTBL on Sat-di.

Get him in the team FFS Adams. If you are not willing to play Yeates and Ward, then put Slew out wide. With Willo (not a RM anyway) suspended he could play on either side. He cannot offer less than Cresswell (and later Quinn) did on the left wing at Ipswich.

I'm with you Olle, get him involved. Even if its just as an impact player from the bench! If he can get into any England side then he's good enough for us at the moment. I dont buy into all this nonsense about "he's too raw" and "he's not ready" - rubbish.....

If the lad has the natural ability then he needs to be given first team exposure to develop it. He's not going to improve enough playing reserve team football. I'm not suggesting we play him every week from the start, but lets give him some time on the pitch and get him used to the step up.

I wouldn't play him on the wing though. Someone else suggested that the other day and I think that would be counter productive. He's doing very well as a striker so that is where we should play him.

How much you seen of him SCB? Just interested seeing as you don't buy that he isn't good enough yet.

Only glimpses Bob but I'm not trying to suggest I know all about him. What I'm saying goes for all young players IMO (Slew being an example). Young players with obvious raw talent (especially goal scoring talent) should be given first team exposure if and where possible. That's my philospohy and it makes perfect sense to me that a talent will only blossom if given experience in the first team. I accept he may not be ready for regular first team football yet, but he isnt going to be ready until he gets a taste of it and learns from playing with senior players.

Are we going to be saying the same about him in a year's time? When he hasnt had the experience of playing at first team level still, do we just leave him in the reserves? Where he probably wont learn a great deal more than he already knows? I know you're going to argue he could go out on loan but who's going to take him on loan if he's not ready? Those lower leagues are tough and full of experienced players.

At the end of the day he has to be given a chance at some point. What is he going to learn in the academy and reserves for another 6 months or so that he doesnt know already? He's scoring goals so I keep hearing so he must be excelling where he's playing now. Holding back, holding back, wrap in cotton wool stifles development and nothing will shake that belief in me. Micky however, will be the man to make the call so I'll keep my opinion and leave it to him.

Now for Grecian to pick this apart..... :D
