Ex-Blade forced to retire through a persistent knee injury. 33, seems to have been around forever and yet at the same time, seems only 5 minutes ago since his breakout season for us, wearing the Orange HFS kit, away at Leicester...

Didn’t he have knee trouble that kept him out for ages with us? Right at the beginning of his career under Warnock?

He also had an issue with scoring goals when playing for us.

He played for us twice didn't he? I remember the excitement I felt when we re-signed him a few years ago. It was the equivalent of finding a plastic giraffe in my Corn Flakes.

I saw his debut when he was just a young sapling of a lad. He was very quick then.

I saw him play against us for Scunthorpe, at Scunthorpe. I'm pretty sure Billy Sharp was in our team that day, us having re-signed him from Scunthorpe. And Billy didn't get much of a sniff and was subbed off - and Forte scored against us. Another one of those games at Scunny where I've come away thinking..."why do we never beat this load of any old Iron?" and "I'm definitely not coming here again".

And I saw the second coming of Forte at the Lane. He was still quick, but not as quick. He looked physically stronger (or fatter) than before. And he still couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo - unless he was playing against us for Scunthorpe.

I heard he had a joint problem - but I didn't realise that had anything to do with his limbs tbh.

Anyhow - as I said - GLTTL, but he's got nowt to complain about. He's somehow carved a living out of football despite his overwhelming averageness and I'm sure his name will not be forgotten - it may well come up in a pub quiz at some point in the future.

Made some money when at Southampton. He was reportedly on a double your money deal with promotion at 5k a week. Ended up on 20k a week. Stealing money that lad

Good luck to him. But was never any good.

I remember him coming through and that we used him as a winger as a young lad, because he had a bit of pace. But then he became a striker and always looked like a bit of a headless chicken.

Had his debut around the same time Sharp did.

Key contribution off the bench away at Highbury in the 1-1 cup draw.

Star of the “Jonathan Forte apology thread”.

Went to Southampton in League one on 3.5k a week. Got back to back promotions without playing a game for them and clauses meant he was on 14k a week due to his contract doubling each promotion.

He’s from a Blades family and certainly has a sibling who is a big Blade.
Grew up with him and his brother around Norton lees. Always remember Sharp coming round his house when they were 18 and i was like 12. Sharp and Forte chased our pig mate outta house! Memories eh.

I worked with his dad for years, good luck to him whatever he does at least he did his best when he played for us more than you can say about some of the tossers we have signed over the years. I don't really get the need for some to slag him off just because he wasn't the best player in the world, he still managed to play at a very good level more than most people can ever hope to do.

I’m still waiting for my apology from Forte for his performances in 2013 that were the major reason for our stumbling from top to 4th, which precipitated the firing of Wilson, a sacking that was dumb even by McCabe standards.

Top man old Ron.

Would that be a deal signed by that master of structuring money for nothing deals Nigel Adkins? That’s right up there with Hammond’s ‘option’ for a second year.

I think it was. Didn’t he manage him at Scunt?

“They never liked me, from the first game they were against me”

That’s because we can spot a bullshitter a mile away and you took the fucking piss.

One might have thought. that in the above position, the pressure would have made diamonds?

I bet he's got a reet big house what with the room for improvement he had from the Lane.

Still we should move on, as it's all water off a goose's back.

I bet he’s got a reet big house and we helped him pay for it. It was like hiring a management consultant to do a job as an actual manager.

so come on who's lying

Good luck to the lad I say he pulled on the red and white shirt. More than I ever have done. He seems fairly sound too.

No issue with the lad, never managed to hit the heights with us but I for one would have taken his career in football.

Hope whatever follows he is a success with.

14th September, 2004 and United lost 2-3 away at Leicester. Chris Morgan and Jonathan Forte getting our goals. This was only our second visit to The King Power Stadium (formerly The Walkers Stadium back when we played on this day) which opened on 23rd July, 2002.
