What do you think we'd hold out for? I think anything over £6m and we wouldn't stand in his way...

I'd say we would take £3mil or £4mil to be honest. If Rangers bid then other clubs might get interested and start a bidding war if they know he isn't going on a free anymore.

I like JL, always have and I hope he stays.

He would love to stay i'm sure but he doesn't like the numbers on his contract offer.

He's not the type to take the piss and will give 100% when called upon.

So go on Lunny, show them the numbers are wrong!

It’s not as simple as that though. Duffy is coming to the end of his career and (relatively speaking) hasn’t made that much money from the game.

I see it like this
Imagine if you were close to your younger brother and you’d supported him and given him gifts to support him over the years.
...then he wins £2million on the National Lottery and says he’ll give you a share of his winnings because he values your brotherly support.
Everyone is happy...you’re not wealthy and your wife is excited planing to buy a new car, fancy holiday etc.

Your brother turns up with a smile and a cheque for £5,000....you‘re grateful but when he’s gone...you’re thinking £5000 is a bit mean and should be nearer £20K.
Your wife says things like “he’s just won £2 million on the lottery and he gives you a measly £5000 share after everything you’ve done for him”
So you go back to your brother slightly embarrassed explaining how you’ve supported him financially over the years and feel £20K is fairer share.

The brother has 3 choices....he could accept and give you a £20K share, refuse but keep things amicable or he could become angry about his brothers cheek.
Wilder choose the last option.....he thought he was being generous offering Duffy a pay rise whereas Duffy thought in the circumstance he should have more.

You win some you lose some...but there should be no hard feelings towards Duffy.

Is there something you'd like to share about your family dynamics ?

There’s no way John Lundstram will be going to Rangers until we sign cover. At this point it looks like he’ll probably be starting on Monday since Berge is injured. I’m also not sure they can compete with our wages even on the offer that was turned down. Talk about a step down.

"John's a good character and there is no downside to him not giving anything less than 100 per cent.

"He won't get in our team if he doesn't, I won't pick him. Supporters need to be comforted that, as always, I will do the right thing for the football club."

I don't think it was a particularly bad penalty. It could have been better, yes. The keeper went the right way and saved it, it happens. I've seen a hell of a lot worse. I think if there wasn't all the background noise about his contract then people wouldn't be going on about the penalty as much.

Decent article that, it would look like the journalist has at least spent some time on it compared to the mess that others in the local press ring in.

it was a terrible penalty at the perfect height for the keeper. You either go low or high not where he put it. People getting out the pitchforks because he took a crap penalty though is ridiculous. I'm still baffled why Berge didnt take it especially after having scored one in the shootout midweek.

I dont think Lunnys contract situation is affecting his game negatively, I just dont think hes very good, he had a purple patch for a few months, thats all hes ever done, remember this is the same guy who couldnt break into our Championship team. I wont miss him when he leaves as I think we can get in far better than him, but unfortunatly right now were short on options at RCM so hes going to have to play his part this season, so were best to all get behind him hope he hits another purple path and helps us out before he leaves

I think it was OK, at good height for the keeper. Not sure why he's stepped forward to take the first pen of his career, but there we go. I think we also need to look at their GK, he has a terrific record of saving pens, that needs to be factored in. The dismay amongst our lot I think stems from the face that, score that, and we get a very unlikely point or 3.

Doesn't it just? Good article. Quotes, interpretation, some comment and observation on the player's game. Decent.

Absolutly agree with that.

Never have been a big LJ fan, but he always puts a shift in, and that tackle to stop Grealish scoring in 90+ mins shows that.

He’s steady he works hard generally can pass and strike the ball well , but very little imagination and poor dribbling skills , definitely no Mark Duffy , wish we could combine the two players into one.

A terrible penalty is one that doesn't even force a save, or a dink into the keeper's arms, like one I saw the other day. Or a scuffed shot. It was a good height for a keeper, but the keeper still had to make a good save. If Ramsdale had saved that penalty we would be saying how well he'd done, not saying it was a terrible penalty and Ramsdale didn't deserve any credit.
I too don't think he's all that good, never have and have been a little surprised as he was lauded for being a PL quality player, which Blades are suddenly not saying anymore. I won't be too sad when he leaves, but the current scapegoating has put me firmly on his side. He contributes, there's no question of that, and his attitude is good or Wilder wouldn't have him anywhere near the team.

As for all the slagging off going on about not signing the contract he's been offered, I have the same view about Lundstram that I have every time this situation comes up - it's the club's decision to offer players fixed term contracts and the length of that contract is negotiated and agreed by the club. No one can complain when a player chooses not to sign a new contract or decides to play hardball when negotiating a new one. I would do exactly the same if an employer had me working on a series of fixed term contracts.
And there's nothing wrong with being fully committed right up to the end of a contract without signing a new one. All this "make him sit on the bench" is ridiculous. Clubs let contracts run out and leave players without a job all the time, even if they have no new club to go to - it suits them fine to take advantage of a fixed term contract.

This really should be the go-to quote for every instance where fans try to invent their own narrative around the situation.

Is lunny staying now?

Still on the transfer list?
