What Wilder's mantra is simple- earn a place in the team and you are in - be you 18 years old, a Man Utd or Middlesbro' starlet or simply Basham or Lafferty. His squad battle for places day in day out midweek, impress more than the usual choices and you are in - they know that so they are on their toes. Chapman and Riley didn't get a luck in. That's how it is.

Maybe because they both got injured and went back to their respective clubs.
Oh,it's look in Woody. Look in.

Another thing that I've heard Wilder talk about in interviews relates to training sessions.
The players don't go through the motions and even play to win with full intensity in training.

I remember him saying at the beginning on the season that Coutts was on the transfer list and not wanted by the club but he's been so impressive in training he's been given a chance in the team.

Since they've regained their places Coutts and Freeman have been great.
Just shows that the door of opportunity is never permanently closed even when Wilder doesn't fancy a player.

Great post Woody....what I'm not 100% sure about is whether Wilders approach is largely due to his budget. For example if he was appointed manager of a premiership team with 70m to spend would he adopt the same approach?

Whatever it's working for us so far and hopefully our can base will give him plenty of time if we make a dodgy start to the season

Don't understand any of that Sean. Look in? What's that? Are you from Sheffield? Those two players were on our bench time and again.

The manager has stated his transfer poilcy from his very first day - he can't be clearer than that.

I believe he would, but it's all relative.

It's possible, that by the end of this window we may have signed 8 players. At the moment it looks like all bar one possibly two, will be from lower league sides and a net spend of about £4m.
Now if we were to go up, and he took a similar approach with say 8 players, and picks the best from the champ plus a couple from the league he's in, he could easily spend £30m, and possibly a lot more when you consider some champ players going for fees near £10m.

But if it works, does it matter what the transfer fees are?

Cuddles and man love are optional and recommended at this interlude.

He is nailed-on for the role of sub for Duffy at the 60/65 minute mark when he tires. To start the season at least – whether he finishes it a starter is mostly up to him.

Can see Duffy starting on bench, had this feeling from minute promotion was confirmed and I have no idea what's happened this pre season but I'm not sure he's fully participated init, I think he may we'll lose his position to Carruthers and then be behind Lundstram when we play more dangerous teams

I believe he's recently become a father.

Management means looking after your staff in all.sorts of ways ;)

Duffy was for large spells of many games our best player and the main creator of chances because as well as being a creative passer he would dribble with the ball and drift past players. Although he always seemed to tire badly after 70 minutes.

Wilder has mentioned in his recent interviews that Duffy is not available for selection because he's been allowed time off to spend with his wife who's recently given birth.

My bad as they say. Sorry Sean, I played the poster I suppose. Watching cricket and distracted. Just a spelling then, silly really, not necessary by me, totally ignorable, certainly petty.

Yeah and rightly so, seems he's had the standard couple of weeks paternity but when you look at it that's a fair chunk of Pre season

It's how you actually should post LUCK in.

The fact they were on our bench says Wilder rated them. They both got season ending injuries or would undoubtedly featured a reasonable amount.

not really he only missed the Malaga trip and the games after that, this was only announced in Malaga and that he probably left training the day the rest flew to spain

Sorry  I too am a big fan of Roygbiv view from (Which I also get on Facebook (Exiled Blades)), he has a magic touch and I am sure he will do it miles better than me and that is why we all love his views from :)

To be honest I've had to edit out a lot of the comments as it would be an hour read otherwise! Lots of talk on there about this signing and Ive tried to stick to views about the player rather than the tiresome Wilder bashing. It's like a bloke in Weatherspoons telling you how the best thing he ever did was splitting up with that girl who went on to win the "Sexiest Woman Alive Award" 5 years running

If it's not confirmed by 9:45am tomorrow morning IMO it won't happen.
