Sheffield United is saddened to report the death of former chairman, John Hassell.

Mr Hassell was chairman of the Blades between 1974 and 1981, during which time the South Stand was built at Bramall Lane.

The club intend to include an article about Mr Hassell in the matchday programme against West Bromwich Albion next weekend.

All at Sheffield United would like to pass on condolences to his family and friends.​

RIP Mr Hassell.

Though I have to point out that during his tenure yes indeed the South Stand was built but more tellingly the club plummeted from 6th place in the top flight to the 4th division.
