John Fleck

The fact is, the three of them are as good as each other, but for different reasons. Each have qualities the other maybe doesn't. Coutts keeps things simple but effective - taking it off the CB & then taking the play from there. Fleck is the box to box terrier midfielder & Duffy is the tricky little Messi who the opposition double up on. They compliment each. They offer balance in the midfield. The opposition just cannot target one player, because it leaves the other two free. It's a nightmare for teams who play against us.

But, the beauty is, if one of them has an off day, we have the other two that are more than capable of making up for it. There are no passengers this year. None. We have three of the best midfielders in the division. And the best thing is, they compliment each other. In my opinion, neither are better than the other. Add to that, Carruthers, who I think will eventually take over from Duffy, we are looking pretty.

I'm not going to put them in any order. Just take them as a collective. The 3 of them are awesome at this level & when all 3 are on their game, they are unstoppable.

They all compliment each other and as a trio they are superb. Why cant people just accept that instead of a wall pissing contest. Hopefully carruthers will be able to step in and keep the trio vibrant and successful. Watching the championship I haven't seen a midfield as good as ours apart from Brighton. The thing is all have periods in a game where they are off it ,sometimes a whole game but then one of them will step up and produce some magic or have a blinder to cover it. The cover that they all offer also helps the defenders and wing backs get into ridiculous positions as highlighted in 3 of yesterdays goals. All 3 are class and important to each other.
Case in point here along with Pinchy s' post earlier who singled Coutts out.

Sitters, you have singled Coutts out many times on here even when he had many doubters, why when a Fleck thread comes up can't you single a bit of praise out just for him, when he was the class act YESTERDAY?

It's not a case of a wall pissing contest, it's recognising a midfielder who has come in and made our side tick from back to front very quickly.

I'm going to keep saying it until he gets praised singular for his game yesterday from people like your good self. Fleck is different gravy.

So when you come on to a Fleck thread and say they all compliment each other make sure you do it on the Coutts threads aswell for the sake of balance instead of making him out like Zidane. :)

100% this.

Post a Coutts thread, everyone nods in agreement that he's the super duper bestest ever.

Post a Fleck thread, "yeah but they're all good".

Speaks volumes.

Fleck drives the team on . He also has the consistency needed in the championship. With him feeding Samir & Duffy we will finish the season very strongly

I know, its as if some don't want to give Fleck any singular praise at all. One poster the other week even said Coutts had been carrying Fleck which made me chuckle because the very next game at Bury, Fleck started and Coutts along with Duffy ended up starting on the bench.

This thread is proof of an inherent bias towards Paul Coutts on this forum, and there has been ever since he started playing for us 4 months ago.

I like them all mate, if that helps balance things up?

The only biased is your anti Coutts point of view which you have every week ,I think all 3 are the equal of each other and have praised Duffy as much as the other 2 ,why you have to get yourself in a state everytime Coutts gets praised is beyond me. Is it because hes keeping your personal favourite Scougall out ?

:D

At the same time Fleck started playing for us. :)
Which is not accurate ,if anything its the other way round ,Fleck was part of the team which was struggling as he was personally and was dropped. Coutts was introduced to the team after the bad start and Fleck came in 3 games after as a sub at first. I really like Fleck but don't re write history ,they compliment each other that's the main story.

Refusing to join in with the wildly overblown circle-jerk over Golden Boy doesn't make me anti-Coutts, just more balanced.

The title of the thread says 'John Fleck'. It would be nice to see some appreciation of his contribution. The same way that the Paul Coutts threads have focused on him since he decided to bother playing.

I think you'll find that some people have liked Coutts for a lot longer than that, but I realise that doesn't quite suit your agenda.

Fleck got dropped early season due to his whiplash injury, from watching the ball go over his head and upto Clarke everytime. Thankfully, CW changed it completely and we have been seeing the rewards of playing the ball out from the back, to the feet of players like Fleck and your man Coutts.

You hammer pinchy for his views and his derogatory nick-names for players then you coin the highly original 'Golden boy' and hijack thread after thread with your ridiculous mis-conception that every other thread is about Coutts. You probably instigate more views on Coutts than the rest of the forum put together. It is Ok to like other players as well you know ,get back to hammering Basham ,and Clarke or haven't you got witty nicknames for them yet ?

Think you'll find I was on this thread before you were. Doing nothing else but praising John Fleck, in keeping with the subject. That's not hijacking, so your assertion is, y'know, wrong.

Just watching the Cardiff Fulham game ,Would anyone take Kevin Macdonald now instead of Duffy/Coutts or Fleck. I wouldn't.

interesting points about quite a few different players.

Fleck started out the season in CM with Basham in a 4 and it was a disaster - his position now is the heart beat of the team, as it always is in any team - Central midfield.

Just goes to show though that it's a TEAM game.

What is clear is the the sum of the individual players adds up to much much more when the team is taken into account.

You may be discounting the influence that CW & AK are having on players - they could have made Mac an even better player.

We'll never know now.

Thats a very difficult question sitters, macdonald had so much time on the ball, just like coutts and Duffy, I really liked watching macdonald, really good footballer and is doing it at a higher level, I suppose we wouldn't want to spoil the feel good factor by changing things, however ask me again iin the summer!

Thought I'd contribute on this one, John Fleck was outstanding yesterday. He's such a neat and tidy footballer with an incredible engine. He bossed the middle of the park, just nipping in and taking the ball off people's feet. He also drove forward with the ball on a number of occasions and brought us into the final third. In my opinion himself, O'Connell and Lavery were are three best players.

Of course we could have signed John Fleck before in 2011 but for a fax machine error. Oh how I wish we had.

I believe, had we done that, he would be a cult figure (which he may well be already anyway) and a staunch dyed in the wool Blade.

How joyous it would have been to have watched this little magician playing for the Blades for the past 6 years rather than one season. I'm so pleased we ended up getting him, he's fantastic to see out there each weekend.

He wouldn't have been the player he is now, but also would have been here under the wrong managers and a toxic period for the club.
Glad things worked out as they have.
In fact, I'm more than content to have had the time in league one we did to have things pan out the way they have in the end.
Reason?...because if we had gone up with the pigs, the side we would have had wasn't a patch on last seasons, and the chances that we might have the current enjoyable style of play is unlikely, and more than probable would have been a variation of hoof.

Best thing is....as he gets fitter this season he's going to get even better. I remain convinced he has more goals in him, and see him as a double figures midfield player eventually.

Even if we had signed him in 2011 we wouldn't have had him for as long as 6 years, we'd have sold him within the next transfer window or two!

Nope it's simple , he was signed by Clough. That's it and he hates it. As for Fleck he is quality no doubt about it. I'm almost as giddy about our midfield as I was when we had Tonge, Brown, McCall and Ndlovu.

Thought that, while Couttsy's stepped up from minute one this season, Fleck's had to adjust to things.

But it was just a matter of time tbh. Last two or three games the confidence seems to be oozing. The way he took the piss out of that multi-million pound Sundland midfielder yesterday (before that cross Donaldson nearly converted from) was sublime.

I actually rate it better , although the Brown of THAT season was the best midfielder in the last 3 decades.
