Although I agree with most of that. Egan is 27 Keane was 23 when Everton bought him, 4 years is quite a big difference.Everton paid £30 million for Keane, and whether you agree or not is irrelevant, but Egan is now a proven player at this level, plus his organisation skills, his timing and all round play puts him in a different league to most other central defenders. Upwards of £40 million would be a realistic valuation, that's how good he is, and I still see room for improvement so in another two years we'll see an even better player.
I think, when people quote £40m they are talking about what it's worth to sell now. Because he's a 27 year old career lower league defender with less than 20 Premier league starts who's probably at the highest performance level he's going to £12-15m is fair. £20m with the Premier league daft fees taxThat's probably right for now.
But some of these figures being thrown about are utter nonsense.

Difference being Egan is a key man for us, Holgate is a fringe first teamer for them. Regardless of age, experience, versatility and ‘English tax’Just a point..... but if £20m and £30m are joke prices for Egan then we can absolutely forget having any chance of signing Holgate.
Start the bidding at £50m plus, or dont bother picking up the phone.
Maguire starred in a world cup and the team buying him were forced to pay that fee by the selling club holding all the cards and they were desperateSerious question for those quoting prices in the £15-£20 million bracket.
Do you think Egan is half the player Maguire is?
I personally think he's more than that but even if you think he's half the player then £40 million is the price.

No club in the world is going to pay us 80 million for any of our players ,the club is only worth thatSo other than Egan not 'starring' in the World Cup (and let's be honest England were lucky with the teams they had to play to get to the semi final), what's the difference?
Do we not also hold all the cards at the potential selling club? If anyone wants him they should also have to pay through the nose for him. Why should we upset our apple cart otherwise? United should only let any of our players go (those in the first team) for a daft amount of money.
We aren't in league 1 or the championship now. Egan is now an established PL player, and a very good one at that.

Egan is half a season into his first spell in the prem and is growing into it well but he has limitations
The bid from the Americans was 80 in the championship 120 in the premNot saying anyone will pay us £80m for Egan that would be ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous that any football tranfer is that amount, nevermind a centre half.
But the fact remains HM did get transferred for a world record fee for a defender and tbh, having watched a lot of him through his career, I don't think hes owt special either.
He's a very lucky lad in that he is plying his trade now when 'proper' olf fashioned Centre halves have previously gone out of fashion in the game and there is a shortage of them knocking about. I've actually seen United have a better centre half than HM, in Paul McGrath. Egan is another who is a 'proper' centre half and if we do agree to sell him in future, we should do so at a real premium. I've already made my pitch as a valuation for him i.e. not less than £50m as far as I'm concerned.
And seriously, you think SUFC is only worth £80m? We spent over £40m on player transfers in the summer. Those players havent devalued, and that's not taking into account the squad already in place such as O'Connell, Egan, Ends, Baldock, Fleck, Norwood....
£12-15m is fair. £20m with the Premier league daft fees tax
Seriously, I love Egan, he's a fantastic player. But realistically what do you think he's worth?Deary me.

Look what I wrote before. He's worth way too much to us to sell him and there's no price that suits both partiesNo less than £30m.
Would any other Premier League club sell their best defender, in his prime and to a divisional rival, for any less than that? No chance.
£30m isn’t even ridiculous money to be asking for a Premier League player now. Especially one as important to us as Egan is.
I know. I said he's worth way more to us. But he's not a £30m player stand aloneIn January... significantly more than 12 million. Significantly.
So, so much more than that.Seriously, I love Egan, he's a fantastic player. But realistically what do you think he's worth?

MoreBut a player’s value is dictated by the selling club. He’s worth a lot to us, so in theory he is a £30m+ player surely?
