Some people like Cofie show enough talent when 12 -14 to look promising , but as they age its wether they can get the application of work ethic to become a professional , sadly Cofie lacks this key ability

I don't agree with sending 19 year olds out on loan, Christ if they can't hold their own in Division 3 by that age, they're simply not good enough.

That's a common myth in English football. There's no specific age. Some players develop later than others, it all depends on what experience they get and how they react to it. Lowton is a good example, he was 21 when he finally got a chance with us after a couple of loan spells and he's still improving now he's 24.

I don't think Ironside will be a great goalscorer but he's a decent link up striker and will only improve with more games. Maybe he'll be a player that needs to take one step backwards to take two forwards depending on where we end up ourselves. He might end up dropping to League Two, toughing up a bit and learning more about the professional game before earning himself a decent career.

Oh, and the problem with Cofie was that he thought he'd already made it. Maybe being released will be a catalyst for him, because if it isn't then he's wasted his potential career.

I'm guessing his spell with us is one of the reasons Man u dont want him. How often have Man U released someone and they have pulled up trees anywhere?

But Lowton went to Hungary to play for Ferencvaros aged 19, I'd say that compares favourably with Div 3? He also made his debut in March 2010, aged 20 but that was a league higher in The Championship.

I don't doubt that players develop at different rates and peak at varying ages, but what I still maintain is, if they haven't progressed to hold their own in the relatively poor standard of Div 3 by 19, they're not going to be good enough. After all the bar has to be set somewhere or we'll run out of squad numbers while we wait upon the off chance that "this one's just a very late developer!"

I wouldn't be sure about that, it's pretty poor over there. Wasn't Anthony Elding there at the same time as Lowton?

I thought Ironside held his own to be fair, he just lacked composure when he got a chance to score. We should set the bar somewhere but I think Ironside deserves another year around the first team to help him develop and see how he goes. A couple of goals in pre-season might settle him down.

My comment about being good enough at 19, wasn't directed at Ironside. I think he's a decent player and may well form a great partnership with a quick mobile strike partner like Miller and he's certainly one worth keeping, albeit that I don't think he'll ever get an England call up. I just feel that given the level we are at, any lad aged19, should be getting experience in our first team not someone else's and if that is considered too big a step at that age, then they're probably not ever going to make it at Bramall Lane.

Ah, I misunderstood you there in that case. My apologies :)

I'd like to see involved pre season get a few goals under his belt.

I certainly haven't written him of but I don't agree with him going out on loan in the 4th tier it's already ruined Harriot.Chappell,Tonne

I thought Ironside came on and changed the game at Doncaster at New Years, that impact was excellent against some brute defenders. He won the penalty and frightened them to death. I want to see more of him before we write him off. What I will say is that I can't recall him getting a guilt edged chance yet. He has to start scoring goals but we need to give the lad time. I agree that a short term loan in L2, if we can get somebody in to play up front, would be useful for him. He is still only 19 and we must remember that.

He was one on one against Carlisle but was not quick enough and did not control the ball well enough. He should have scored but Nobody remembers this because the ball broke to Forte who missed an even better chance.

I missed the Carlisle game, was on holiday!

Their right chased him at full speed and was always likely to catch up with him as long as Ironside is not exceptionally quick, and had to make at least one touch before a finishing attempt.

His first touch was ok and then he fooled the right back with a clever dummy, but then got the ball a bit far away from him and he had to make a sort of tackle to prevent their centre half to get to it (also cleverly done) before setting up Forte.

People may be disappointed by him not scoring, but he never actually had a great unblocked shooting chance. Keeping the ball when challenged by two defenders was probably the most impressive thing I've seen him do!

If the ball is played into his feet I think he holds the ball up well from what i have seen. Would suit playing with a poacher like Miller or having midfield runners (not something we have this year). I don't think he will ever be prolific but can definitely do the job Porter is paid to do and maybe in time Kitson.
