CONFIRMED John Brayford - Contract Mutually Terminated

Think the idea was to sell Brayford to re-invest, Burton can't buy or match wages and the Walker/Maquire money has eased the pressure on selling. Knill stated yesterday Done and Brayford may be used if needed. When Brayford was loaned out last year it was purely cutting costs. Not playing him is very strange, Brayford himself stated he wonna stay but has no answers. CW never talk about him. Probably demanded a new wagestructure and is pissed of his agent doing his job. Anyway the real story will eventually be revealed, but for me Brayford can hardly be blamed, CW must stand by the club's contracts. As pr today he's probably our highest earner and only features in some pictures. Hardly the best management. Either play him or pay him off.

Hardly the best management. Hardly the best planning before CW arrived either.

Only play him if you rate him. If you don't then you and the player have a choice. Pay him off or wait for an offer. My guess is we can't afford to pay him off and after the lacklustre performance last year Wilder doesn't rate his character. Brayford's dad comes and gets him or we have a wasting asset and a drain on resources. As someone else has said before me. it depends on who blinks first.

Read the question posted to which I responded . And what has brayford brought on himself? He went out on loan distinguished himself and our manager doesn't want or need him that's about all the factual information we have if you have any other info please enlighten us

As per my post, I am asking the question why is Wilder to blame for Brayford not playing? The way I see it is that we are looking for a right sided centre back, a position in which Brayford played last year well. If Brayford was 100% behind what we are trying to achieve I believe Wilder would play him.

Not so sure you know.i think he wants to use his wages elsewhere if he was on the reported £10k pw in League one he must be on £12k/£15k now as I'm sure there will have been a promotion wage increase clause in his contract.not just using his wages but also keep a level playing field throughout the squad without anyone on distorted wages..

One things for sure, this season we won't be giving Brayford away to Burton for next to nothing, they can either buy him, pay all his wages or fuck off. It would be bad business from us to give a player to one of our rivals who could then possibly stay up in the position above us where we get relegated. Now as highly doubtful as that is, it would still need thinking about and I'm pretty sure that's what our club would have done whilst discussing every other avenue.

Agreed - if he's going to a rival we need to ensure we rob them at the same time. For what it's worth i think Burton have been priced out - i personally can't see Brayford going anywhere this summer.

The question is why are no other clubs interested in him? Are his wages too high? Surely not that high for the Championship and even if they were we would almost certainly be open to negotiate where we pay some to get some of the wages off our payroll. Is it because his injury means he can't train properly and might break down at any time? Or is there something in his personality which makes him undesirable to other clubs? Why are Burton not interested in re-signing him or are they just playing a waiting game so they can get him on loan again and drive a hard bargain on his wages.

I think you've answered your own question at the bottom of your post with the correct answer, let's hope Burton don't get their own way.

Yes but why are no other clubs interested?

If he stays with us then as far as I am concerned CW needs to find a way of keeping him involved, at least in or close to the matchday squad. It would only take an injury to Bash or one of our 2 RBs for that to happen anyway. He can play at this level and according to all reports his attitude and professionalism is beyond question. Freezing him out on some kind of principle would, ironically, be more Cloughesque than something CW would do.
He was a hero during his loan spell and then it all went pear shaped for a variety of reasons but at the end of the day he is still a good player and if we are paying him we should fucking well use him.

The Beard gave us some magic moments at a time when they were few and far between. Thank you John.

He deserves to get a chance to play somewhere.

Still my favourite player over the last few years
His arrival dragged us from having one foot in League 2 to almost qualifying for the play offs plus an FA Cup semi final

Just wish he could become the marauding right back/wing back again and stay with us

You reckon? I'm not so sure... I think if he's not gone anywhere by deadline day we'll give him the option to walk away... and I think he will (for all the shit he gets on here I don't think he'll stick around just collecting a wage).

Yes but why are no other clubs interested?
Probably because he seems to have injury problems, isn't young and is hugely overpaid. Last season he showed he was good enough for a club that just avoided relegation. None of the clubs that would find his wages easily affordable are going to be interested. For what they're paying, they could find better.
And he seems to have a desire to stay in the local area, as close to home as he can get. So that rules out a few options.

I'd be happy if we could come to an arrangement where we just cancel his contract and don't pay him, so he's free to negotiate with another club.

Isn't he free to negotiate with another club now? Because of the points Youve made, financially he'd be better off staying here but if someone takes the chance I think he'd take a drop in wages rather than do that. We'll end up paying him something one way or another. That doesn't make him Dean Hammond though.

Nor should it. Yes it may have ended up being an expensive mistake, but before it all went South, Brayford contributed and for me was a very good player. Shite luck with injuries, and other factors we can only speculate about have put things where they are. I hope he gets himself sorted out but I feel he will have to lower his expectations in terms of earning power.

Gave us some of the brightest Days in a dark period :)

Which roughly translates as we are bang interested, thus the enquiry, we are just happy to drag this out till UTD give him away cos we know we are in the box seat !

UTB

Or..... I offered him stupid money at United and we won't pay that so we'll wait and see if we can have him back on loan with United paying a large portion of that daft money I gave him or til they pay him off so I can have him on sensible wages.

If he isn't going any where he should be integrated into the squad , he was pretty much our last hope when in the wilderness a few seasons back, his attitude isn't in question and he would definitely do a job.

He's under contract with us so, technically, no. A club would have to have a bid accepted. In the real world, as I've said, I'd be happy for him to go on a free to get him off the wage bill.
I'd consider loaning him to a lower league club and us paying part of his wages. What I wouldn't consider is loaning him to Burton or paying him off with a decent chunk of his outstanding contractual sum so he can leave to join Burton.

Bradford linked well with freeman and Brooks. With brooks receiving the ball on the run and cutting in towards goal from the right.
Brooks nearly scored another cracker hitting a curler into the top far corner, but keeper made good save.
