Because brayford is an asset and has a value so miss treating him harms his value who is gonna take an unfit miserable player only one team and manager and they wont take him till 11pm on deadline day

Team comes first, and who says that wilder is mistreating him and brayford didn't bring it on himself

Not read the whole thread but has there been any suggestion that the deal to be done here involves a swap if brayford for mcfadzean.

Wilder was after him but MK dons weren't going to let it happen, he's got a bit of unfinished business here. We need a centre half, they want brayford.

Given all that, wouldn't this be the best solution all round?

You mean the same position we were in when the club signed him. Brayford was clear he wanted to come and we got him well below his market value at the tIme...and on lower wages than he was on at the the time too.

Clough brought in Freeman as HIS plan was to get Brayford on promotion. In the January, the club were worried as it wasn't going well and just went for it hoping he would have the same effect he had had the past time he arrived. He didn't as we know. That was more a Phipps/Prince signing than anyone else, and caused a bit of a stir at the time.
Seems you have a bit of an agenda with Clough, but as we know, the truth is that Clough didn't sign anyone without the club sanction.

An agenda with Clough? What the? You'll be accusing herbie of posting poems about him on another teams or him asking Derby fans if NC "took it up the shitter" next.

Clough acting in his current clubs best interest though. That's a new one in football. Cunning bugger Brian's Lad.

I assume Brayford is on a lot more money than McFadzean, which would possibly be an issue. I'm not sure about him in a back 3 either.

Well he must have played in a back 3 last year cause that's the formation Brayford played in last year at Burton.

I'm not suesting a simple like for like swap but that there is a deal to be done to make it work for all parties

Brayford would be a great asset to the squad can play across the back line , proven quality at this level , plus with the injuries we've got only in pre season it would make sense to keep him .
Would it not make more sense to keep than sell and replace . Surely he's not on that much more than sharp a week.

With a lack of interest in him, could he become this years Coutts and Freeman.
I hope so.

I must admit I'm surprised by the omission of Brayford during pre-season. You'd think giving him some playing time could only strengthen our hand as far as negotiations with other clubs go. If other clubs don't offer an adequate fee, he has a chance to redeem himself & play his way into contention.

As it is now we have a proven championship performer + high earner sitting on his arse waiting for a club to take him off our hands. Is any team with management worth its salt going to pay good money money for a player who's been frozen out and looks to be in an untenable position? Not exactly the way to get a decent fee for a player.

Only way it makes sense to me is if Wilder's seen some character flaws in him and he doesn't want it rubbing off on the rest of the squad.

Either way, it's a shame how this situation has panned out. Hard to forgive him after some of the performances he put in towards the end of his time in the first team.

On the other hand, he's got a bad history of injury and because of his wages we'll struggle to give him away. So why risk him getting injured again by playing him in the friendlies?

Yeah, that's a point. It sounded like he got on well with Burton last season & played in most of their matches, but as you say, with injuries like that you never know.

In all the group photos he seems to be skulking at the back scowling :-)
... Think he is good when fit, and we are still paying his wages so can't see why he hasn't featured more...

He's clearly training with the squad as per photo yesterday.

Sorry I wasn't clear - by freezing out i meant from the pre-season squads. I could be wrong, but i think Freeman and Coutts were still on the team sheet for last years pre-season games

I think he could surprise us all this season and be our RCB competition for Basham if we can't get Lenihan over the line. There's a lot worse players to be stuck with than a proven championship defender.

Not if he doesn't want to be here that is...

Read the question posted to which I responded . And what has brayford brought on himself? He went out on loan distinguished himself and our manager doesn't want or need him that's about all the factual information we have if you have any other info please enlighten us

Think the idea was to sell Brayford to re-invest, Burton can't buy or match wages and the Walker/Maquire money has eased the pressure on selling. Knill stated yesterday Done and Brayford may be used if needed. When Brayford was loaned out last year it was purely cutting costs. Not playing him is very strange, Brayford himself stated he wonna stay but has no answers. CW never talk about him. Probably demanded a new wagestructure and is pissed of his agent doing his job. Anyway the real story will eventually be revealed, but for me Brayford can hardly be blamed, CW must stand by the club's contracts. As pr today he's probably our highest earner and only features in some pictures. Hardly the best management. Either play him or pay him off.

Yes, and he can afford to say that as ultimately neither will be deemed as needed.

Our problem here has been the over-reliance on Clough to get Brayford off our wage bill. The lack of any other interested club till now, for an experienced pro that by all accounts did well in the Championship last year, should be a massive alarm bell for the sort of deal we've got Brayford on. Clough will know precisely what that deal is, it'll probably be something that exceeds Burton's wage structure, and while I'm sure he wants him back it wouldn't surprise me at all if Burton have asked for a large chunk of his wages (possibly over half) to be covered by us. They'll probably wait us out, and without any other takers (and seemingly no interest in playing him), they can afford to.

Wilder did the same to Coutts and Freeman last year and they responded. Can I only think that Brayford hasn't. Don't you think it's about time Brayford bought in, if he wants to stay?
