Some good points above. Charlton or whoever cannot sign everyone and you have to take your pick in the positions you need and build a side.

Say we do sign Akinde for example.

It means Charlton have gone for a forward line of Holmes, Novak and Ajose

We would have have gone for a forward line of Duffy, Akinde and Sharp. Setting Adams aside for a moment.

Duffy has played consistently more at a higher level than Holmes, who has only hit form on the past year or so.

Novak has consistently player higher up than Akinde, though the latter has pace and is physically bigger.

Ajose scored more than Sharp but contributed to less goals. Ajose had a purple patch last year whereas Sharp has been a career goalscorer.

Both sets of three are decent for this level but it's all about the dynamic.

I get more comfort that Sharp and Duffy will have good seasons than I do that Ajose will be as good next year and Holmes will carry on, given the greater consistency over the past 5 years of all of them.

I'd also venture that a player with strength and pace would supplement our forward line better than someone like Novak.

We also have Adams, Done, McNulty and Calvert-Lewin. I doubt Charkton boast the same depth.

If we get him, I'm comfortable with our options vs Charlton.

Another question is what system Wilder will deploy. If it is 4-2-3-1 then you may have room for Sharp, Akinde, Duffy and Adams arguably.

I struggle to see how Sharp and Akinde could both play in a 4231? Surely both would need to be the “1” in that system? Up front together as a 2 I like that prospect though leaving Duffy wide right and ideally a new left winger but if not, Adams or Done out there. We’d need a more energeting CM to partner Basham to allow those 4 attacking players though. Perhaps someone like Jackson Irvine who’s been mentioned previously.

From the you tube clip.
He can finish.
Good penalty taker
Looks to drive into the box (we haven't had a player like that for years)

Possible worrying points.
There was some shocking defending.
Alot of his goals came from pens (see above)
His goal celebrations are pants.(I like beating the chest kissing the badge celebrations)
I would certainly sooner take a risk on him than sign Clarke.

Agreed. Never any guarantees with players from Scotland or the lower leagues but I think it’s a case of looking for attributes that we lack and getting them whilst they’re on an upward curve. Akinde seems to fit this profile. Pace and Power aplenty and has scored around 50 goals over the last 2 seasons as he climbs the league.

Holmes?

Done was "out there" for much of last season. He was absolutely terrible.

Agreed he wasn't great. With what we have, I'd probably play Adams there if we got someone like Akinde to partner Sharp. Done would probably be second choice. As I say, Ideally, I'd like us to sign a proper left winger.

I struggle to see where Ched would fit in either 442 as a partner for Billy or in a 4231 as a lone striker, when Captain Billy is a shoo-in to start every game but that doesn't stop people saying we should sign him.

Let's face it, we don't know how CW is going to set us up yet so it's difficult to talk about targets, other than CHs, which we all agree we need.

Nah, i think we should do without centre backs and just sign more forwards.
Play rush goalie too, that would be an improvement.
Just out score the opposition.

I think the Ched Evans of 11/12 would fit in anywhere to be honest, while he might not have perfectly complimented Sharp, I'm sure they would still have both scored goals.

The Evans of 2016 is an entirely different prospect though (IMO)

Martin Allen has revealed he is far from happy with top goalscorer John Akinde ahead of the Barnet’s League Two match with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Akinde netted his 17th and 18th goals of the season in the 3-0 win over Leyton Orient last weekend to secure his best ever Football League tally.

But Allen has demanded a great deal more from the target man next season as eight of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

He said: “No I’m not that pleased with him to be honest.

“There are about half a dozen penalties in that number so no I expect and want more from him.

“This has been his most successful season in the football league but John would be the first to say that his goals from open play are not enough.

“We need more than that for us to really kick on and be successful.”

That's still 12 from open play and it looks like he went on to score another 5 goals after that quote too.

"quick update on this, been informed 250k was rejected they wanted closer to 500k, we werent prepared to match that, however barnet apparently came back and would take that figure if we threw in diego, but diego refused to even talk to barnet, wilder was apparently furious and thats why he was quickly released, blades still hopeful of landing him but would have to fork out at least 400k i think to tempt them, if true also proves there is no release fee for akinde"

Cheers Diego. Obviously a trial at Chesterfield's a much better bet.

Who would you prefer to join? Chesterfield which is your home town club with Morgan and other people you know or Barnet.. I am sure if he doesn't get a contract at Chesterfield he will still have a Barnet offer on the table

I think the bit about Wilder being furious proves this is a load of tosh.
Any man and his dog given the option of your home town club and signing for Barnet! it's a no brained he chooses Chesterfield. Wilder has already said the moves for players has to be right for all parties.Hes a young player who has lost his way
and I think it's credit to United for letting him go for a fresh start and
forfeiting any compensation we would have been due.

Meet em halfway at £325k and offer one of our development players on loan (CW did say about sending some out to toughen them up) job done. We have our front man :)

Easy this player recruitment init :D

Yeah, credit to United for forfeiting compensation for a player we owe nothing to.

He might still have an offer from Barnet on the table but he'll be of no use to us then as he's no longer our player.

It's only a trial at Chesterfield as opposed to a guaranteed contract and likely first team football, which is what he needs.

Load of tosh, and totally made up

He'd be better off at Barnet away from his mates and at a level he's more likely to succeed at, with a manager who doesn't take any shit.

But I don't believe the post anyway. I know someone connected with Barnet so, if I remember, I'll ask him next time I see him.

Akinde has scored 2 for Barnet today v Oxford, one was a pen, he missed a pen too but was brought down for both of them.

I think this lad could be a star, not sure why he's still at Barnet maybe got a reputation or something but he must be worth someone taking a risk on.

Just signed a new 3 year deal down there mate. He played for Alfreton a couple of years ago but wanted to move back down south after a year.

My reaction everytime this thread re-surfaces, only for me to realise that it's still a non-starter:
