How he hasn’t had more of a mention tonight I’ll never know, he was pure class when we were under pressure at times in the first half and the last 30 minutes of the second half. Him, along with the rest of the defence got us out of a lot of shit due to our midfield not keeping hold of the ball for periods of the game, this needs to drastically improve which I think it will when Fleck comes back in otherwise our back line will be put under too much pressure.

He had a blip but (Leeds goal apart) he's been excellent recently. Excellent tonight

Getting plenty of praise from me. Saved our bacon a few times in the first, calm on the ball with a pretty good chance of a great pass at the end.

Don't know how he can be so calm in the box, think he takes a valium before the game haha

Me and my daughter said JOC was MOM along with stearman or Basham. He seems to be back on form.

Yep Jack made up for everyone mistakes in midfield tonight and tidied up when called upon.

Very good performance.

I think O’Connell for MOM for me too looking back at it. Can’t remember his not winning a header and covered well

With Bash & Stevens having had such welcome returns to form just recently, it's very difficult to pick one out from the wing backs/centre backs tbh.

JOC maybe the most naturally talented amongst them? But overall looking such a solid unit now though, all five of them (& with Blackman really looking the part behind them too).

I’m never calm when I’m in the box.

love JOC.

He should definitely have at least a couple of goals to his name though this season, if not more. An absolute rock at the back though.

Stearmans little flick and left footed ball down the line to Leon was amazing. He's technically good and physically strong
Mentioned this in another thread. Stearman is an excellent footballer and plays an intelligent game, reyt signing.

He’s so good we don’t need to talk about him and that’s put him under the radar, but he’s surely due a goal (please)..

I have him for first goal quite often...

Mention for sharp tonight as well please, first time crossing please as well, wingers take note...

I wonder if JOC is being monitored by teams above us, and if so, who?

I can only really see a championship team with money coming in for him. Bit like if Boro sold Gibson, O’Connell would be a good replacement. I doubt you would spend 10m on O’Connell to play in the premier just yet.

Once Billy gives up the captain's armband I think Jack would be an obvious candidate to take over.

Young, commands the defence, fearless, calm under pressure.

There will be other candidates but I've always preferred defenders as captains rather than forwards.

And this Tezza is why I started a thread on him. We have imo mediocre players doing a job like Basham and Lundstram who get a thread or atleast mentioned in a thread every week yet one of our standout performers like JOC barely gets a mention.

This probably doesn’t sit well with some Blades but I prefer to talk about a classy player all the time and JOC is definitely that, over someone who just has steady games at best week in week out.

What I’ve tended to find on here are the ones that who are under appreciated are our best players and the ones who are over appreciated quite simply aren’t. This isn’t directed at you ‘btw’.

Billy was a close second behind JOC for MOTM, good all round performance.

Sharp set and example for the first 20 minutes. At that time he was the only player other than defence putting himself about. Luckily the likes of Evans, lundstram and Clarke started to follow

Maybe the reason why many of us on this forum are quick to praise Lundstram is because he was getting a lot of undue criticism when he was forced to fill Coutts' boots earlier in the season. It's clear he's improved and people are happy to point that out. I haven't seen any threads praising Basham (our other alleged "mediocre" player)

The reason why J.O.C doesn't often get threads praising him is because they'd be redundant: we're all very aware of how good he is. O'Connell having a good game isn't really a point of discussion.

I think that individually the whole back five played v well, but we do not look as organised as a unit as we do when wright is playing. But I prefer stearman as an individual. Cannot have everything and an interesting problem for wilder to have

Agree regards Lundstram, he needed time to bed in and he was never going to play the Coutts role the Coutts way, I think Lundstram gives us more going forward actually, someone who does most of the basics very well. There are threads and posts out there praising Basham, I can assure you I’ve seen them otherwise I wouldn’t have mentioned it.

I’m not slating Lunny or Bash, they’re good at what they do most of the time, I was merely making an OP about a player who played better than both of them imo but threads were starting about Lunny and Bash but nothing said about JOC, it’s wrong to not point out a player who is consistently good, why should we not mention him?

Let’s just forget about JOC then because he has good games most weeks, you made exactly my point in your last paragraph.
