They're not gonna say , apart from keep telling us "higher , higher !"
They know we're in dire straits at CB , so market value and the 6 months left on his contract are irrelevant.
In just over 4 months he's potentially been the key to an auto slot for us , so they know what our calculations involve and we are not spoiling the ship for a ha'porth o' tar.
They can smell our desperation.
Well that’s just nonsense

I agree, not least because I don’t expect Anel to be here next season whichever division we’re in. I think we need 3, possibly 4 CBs between now & the start of next season.

Why's Anel leaving ?

He thinks he's better than Championship ?

We don't think he's good enough for PL ?

I can't see why we wouldn't keep him - do you see a PL club taking him off us or is it that he fancies a sunny country ?

He's out of contract I believe

i think were signing one of these 2 lads and keeping gilchrist here or gilchrist is going back to chelsea and were after dunne and darling was noticeable that gilchrist wasnt seen in the inside training video this week 🤔

I'd just point out that £2m is cheap (ignoring expiring contract) and we could probably sell at a profit next January if we wanted.

i think 2m is a decent price for dunne surely we can afford that if wilder really wants him

Why does he "have to improve our defence"? He's not a very good CB, which is why he's playing a less valuable position
According to whoscored.com Dunne has played 11 games at CB this season with a score of 7.05 in this position. The exact same score of Souttar and higher than our other CB's.
He has also scored 4 more goals so far this season than the combined tally of all our CB's.

Whoscored's wrong. He's been playing RB for a season and a half.

And he was moved to right back where he's become pretty much QPR's main player. QPR have 10 points from the 11 games he started at CB, and only 1 of his goals came from there.

Stats can be useful but they don't tell a full story. He could be a decent CB but QPR fans have clearly said he's a lot better at RB. I hope, if he comes in, that it works. But I'm not sure a player who's been moved out of the position is the lead CB who'll help shore things up and help Anel steady back into better form

👍
His score for RB is higher (7.23). But his score at CB is still higher than that of Darling, Anel and JLT.

If it means he's starting at RB next season then it may end up being a good overall signing. Just feels like it'll be a big fee for a soon to be out of contract Championship player who may not provide the calming presence required.

As well as defensive bolstering, if Choudhury and Souza start we really need some better forward passing from CB. Dunne and Darling would provide that

A lot of his position switch and relative success at RB will be down to what other options QPR have for those positions. If they have adequate alternatives at CB and a pile of poo at RB then he would improve the team moving to RB.

2 mill is not what we’ve offered/ that’s what QPR quoted us after initial negotiations. The true figure to sign him will be around half that.

If Wilder didn't think he could be a good CB for us then he wouldn't be the main target now. It might be that he needs to improve in certain departments, but Wilder is confident that he can and will improve at SUFC with our management and players. One thing we've been for quite a while, last season apart, is a solid defensive unit. And it's hardly like CBs don't ever improve after age 27. Robinson is a decent example of that, he's matured as a CB and Dunne could do similar. Looking at his attributes I don't see why not

aye
Sign ‘im up to play @ CH when he’s (apparently/ allegedly) better @ full-back.
(Continue to) Play Gilchrist @ full back when his substantive position is CH
Absolute gift for all those predisposed to nocturnal enuresis - enjoy your frothing, foaming greeting & groaning 😘

I can't see why we wouldn't keep him - do you see a PL club taking him off us or is it that he fancies a sunny country ?
I’ll repeat that I think it unlikely that he’ll be here next season & leave it there. We’ll wait & see.

He’s foreign so it’s just a matter of time.

The goals conceded number with Souttar was unsustainable regardless. Go and create more chances/score more goals because putting a right back at LCB is not guaranteeing any improvement.

"Sign anyone who can play centre back" is not the same as signing a competent, lead CB to help shore up a few of the more obvious errors
Where have you got this "sign anyone who can play at CB" idea from?

Dunne is a CB, Darling is a CB, we were interested in Woolfenden

We're not exactly picking random players that look like they can play CB, we're signing players who have experience of the role in the league we're in with a view to them maybe making the step up.

Also, as I'm sure many others have said - January is the hardest market to work in. Teams know what others need, so bump up prices and play hardball. Understandable its taken this long to get what seems like 1 of the two top choices CW and the team had
