Looking at the Jim Phipps Tweets, it was interesting that he is still looking towards the play-offs this season.

As Jim is the mouth-piece for what the club hierarchy is thinking, it may just point towards what their ambitions still are, regarding transfers and the way they think the season might still pan out? Fingers crossed!

And I quote the big man:

@bigtdunk Play offs possible? If we give every match 90 minutes like we gave yesterday, anything is possible. Be hard to beat + scoring = ?

Hi MightyBlades, maybe Jim's comments are those of a recently converted fan of football? We've all said the same over the years, if only it was as easy as scratching your head and wondering why it's not possible to repeat the same level of performance? Jim's a good 'un, and you can't fault his willingness to communicate with fellow Blades. I'm sure Jim will discover that football isn't an exact science, and that it takes experience and a lot more to ensure continued success.

Agreed, think he'll learn over time that it's not as cut and dry and all about statistics like some of the American sports such as Baseball and NFL.

Play offs is of course possible if we put in like we did yesterday.

Poses an interesting point... If all it takes is fans and amazing support to lift our game then rather than investing in players on over inflated wages in january. Lets get the club to subsidise the cost of support. Put on away coaches, all tickets for a tenner and buy one get one free on beers consumed within 1 mile of the ground

Ha, now slowly awake mate.....more chance of winning the lottery I'd have thought. But you're spot on about the support, it was mega!

Exactly. Is that the only difference between Walsall away? Amazing support? I think there were a total of 5000 fans at Walsall, from both sides. 6000 blades yesterday.

Ok I'm being tongue in cheek about it, but you've got to wonder why these players can't put in such a level week in week out. It sounded like we were even passing to our own team yesterday and more than once!

I personally think that this will create a buzz around the club, a distraction in someways but I think Clough has it in him to manage this.

Again, I go back to Cloughs post match interview. He really is a proper football man and knows what success means to the club and its fans.

So Phipps' comments may show a lack of experience of football and the Blades, but he has a manager that seems so perfectly suited to this club that with the right backing (not splashing the cash) who knows where we could end up.

We need more goals though...

Agree completely mate. If there's a key to what happens to United it's almost certainly tied in to what support Cloughie gets from the board. Does their ambition match the manager's is the question that matters, but yes, short term needs are a forward.

Trouble is, who can we attract while we're in this division? A goal-scoring forward is the most precious asset of any club, so I feel that as long as we get someone who is able to provide a wider set of positives than Porter, then at least we'll up our expectations. Once we're in the Championship then we can have realistic expectations about who'll want to sign for us.

But love your idea about SUFC subsidising ticket prices.....says he with a raised eyebrow and cynical grin.

I think the difference between the Walsall game and the Villa game was the tactics go to Walsall and dont lose because there are League points at stake go to Villa give it a proper go as we are not expected to win there and we havent lost anything if we do go out of the cup
Hopefully will Clough will take some notice of how the players played being allowed the freedom to actually attack teams away from home

Until its mathematically impossible then we need to keep pushing.

The club owes it to the fans to try & win as many games as possible until the end of the season.

Unlikely, but you never know?

We are only 13 points off being in a play-off place, with half a season still left.

2 quality signings + momentum could make all the difference to us.

I for one, certainly haven't written off our season just yet, and I've been around the Blades long enough to have seen it all.

3 league wins on the spin and you never know.
Confidence high,wingers on fire..............
All we need is a striker to compliment the intent.

A couple of seasons ago we looked certain to go up, this season we don't appear to have a chance.

Well records are there to be broken aren't they ?

How many points were Bournemouth off the play offs this time last season. Everyone knows that's the marker.

while ever its numerically possible , its possble
records are there to be broken
its a game of 2 halves , first half of season , we were shite
the only certain thing about football is its uncertainty

I like your work, going for the cliche bingo clean-sweep there. :D

its a short homage to David Coleman who recently departed this mortal coil snuffed it , fell off his perch , joined the choir invisible

Exactly right ! ;)

This time last season, Bournemouth were outside the playoffs on goal difference and 5 points off automatic promotion with a game in hand.

Yeah cos that's how football works. We beat Villa. Villa beat Man City in the league. Man City beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
So were the best team in the world.

But then again we lost at home to Gillingham. Gillingham lost to Brackley Town in the cup, so really Brackley Town are the best team in the world and would no doubt hammer Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, in the real world, there's more chance of Graham Norton eloping with Vinny Jones than there is of us reaching the play offs.

Sarcasm at its best. xx

LOL....after Walsall anyone who mentioned the "P" word was branded clinically insane in the membrane
