So, you don't like to deal in suppositions then pull out that doozy?
I don't mind discussing my theories but unlike some I accept that they are just theories, have no basis in fact and therefore may be completely wrong, and unlike some I will not defend them to the death. :)

Of course I read it. Im fed up of Jim Phipps' hot air.
Ive already said in the past that 13 million spent\invested in the first team amounts to gross incompetence. But over 20 million? Jesus.

Who the fuck are you anyway? Nearly every post ive seen from you on this forum is of a tone that suggests thay your opinion is better than everyone elses.

Heres a positive for you. If we stop selling out best players we might actually achieve our aim of promotion.

I'll take that as a No and a No then :-)

There's a very uncomfortable truth to this. I can remember during the Warnock era where we, in firm stability, could with seemingly endless amusement enjoy looking down on Wednesday, oscillating between the bottom of the Championship and League 1, squabbling among themselves over managers/owners whilst never shutting up about their attendances. I used to think it was hilarious – what on earth made them think they had some sort of entitlement to be lording it over clubs that regardless of size were doing much better than them? We are showing worrying signs of developing some of their worst character traits.

And arguably instead of Lee Strappon we have Jim Phipps. I well recall that we used to absolutely berate the Pigs for the very same things Phipps is doing - ie being 'open' with the fans on social media.

It was less about being open with strapon and more getting in to full blown arguments with people on porktalk that we used to find amusing.

His open warfare with bellsview for instance was alone worth registering for.

As far as I'm aware JP hasn't behaved in this way at all.

You make a good point here ...... however, I think though that most of our "dissenting" supporters are showing huge frustration at the fact that there seems to have been very little learned, by the Board / Management of the Club, during our stay in this agricultural Division.

We seem to be still pursuing the goal of assembling a squad which will be good in the Championship, and this type of player is unlikely to get us out of this Division which we have trapped ourselves in due to our own inability to take the necessary steps to correct our serious and obvious squad deficiencies. Being good on paper, or having a good reputation means little in this Division where quality players have very little time / room to show their qualities.

So, on reflection, I don't think we're catching the "piggery virus" from our arrogant, ignorant, massive neighbours because we will never be in the Champions League with them ....... but I do think that us blades supporters are starting to become a little disturbed that our Club, with the resources at its disposal, cannot find the leadership, knowledge, experience and fight to escape from where we are trapped.

UTB & FTP

Mind you, if you want to know where the Jamie Murphy money went, Phippsy was bidding like David Dickinson on memorabilia at that Bassetts' Boys do in the evening.

I think this £20+ million spent on players is way off the mark ,I don't pretend to be clever but I do consider myself to have plenty of common sense. The £20+ has been spent on the overall running of the club he did say we are running a £5 million shortfall every year we are in this so called shit division (this division is better than it is painted in my opinion). All money's including transfers in and out will be part of the running total and it stands at £20 million plus at this present time more has to be spent to try and get promotion this season so you can see where the total will reach £25 million. All this talk about the club being happy to stay in league one is absolute rubbish and as for making a profit when hopefully we do reach the promised land is a joke for the only teams who do make money are the one,s in the champions league ,the rest have all on maintaining there premier league status and even when the new tell deal with sky kicks in the money will be swallowed up by wages and transfers. The prince will be well aware of this and unless he takes us into the champions league the only way he can make a profit is by selling his 50% to someone else on the back of premier league status.
This is not rocket science and anyone with a bit of common sense can work this one out so you so called blades men who keep going on about investment in the club it's there for all to see.Why not get behind the management and players help get us to the promised land,I for one would love to see the prince sell his half as it would mean we had made it. PHEW.

We can all speculate as I'm going to do but surely someone oversaw even some of it? Who looked at the medical reports for example? For the players signed coming back from serious injury, do the contracts cover hardly ever playing? Etc etc

I reckon they saw Clough as the "expert" & had him in control of all footballing matters, including transfers. I'd imagine Mal Brannigan worked to him, rather than to the board.

The Technical Board, as described, doesn't include Director/Board representation then or now. I just take it that far more consultation (within the Technical Board, & between manager & Directors/Board) now takes place. The downside, I'd imagine, is delays of the sort seen with the Hammond loan.

Then why did they appoint Mel Brannigan in 8th January 2014 to allegedly part of his remit was player recruitment. That implies he most have been aware of the budget spiralling out of control, surely MB first duty is to SUFC after all he is also aware of the financial problems we have but apparently he allowed them to deteriorate.

Cloughy worked with MB previously & presumably had a pretty close working relationship with him. Rather than seeing a budget spiralling out of control, maybe he saw it as sustainable with promotion?

The crux seems to be the board admitting MB's failings here, as well as their own, & modifying the processes to prevent similar failings in future & moving on. Cloughy's own failings seemingly couldn't be "modified" in this way to allow him to remain.

Who is actually on the Technical Board do you know?

Whatever happened to the old way of buying players where the manager said Mr chairman fred bloggs would make us a much better team can i go get him ? The chairman repies how much will he cost, then after being told and a sharp intake of breath he either says yes go get him or no we can't afford him find someone cheaper. Oh hang on one is in Belgium the other in Saudi Arabia and the other mouthpiece could be out at a fans birthday bash in High Green.

You don't think the suggestion that we not sell our best players is a positive suggestion?

We should not sell our best players has zero validity afaics.

Should we sell Adams? Yes or No. Come on. I want an answer. Is just empty posturing.

Should we sell Adams to Real Madrid for £500m? Yes. Should we sell Adams to Wendy for £8.42 and a bag of pork scratchings? No.

Then there's the grey area in between.

Jim's Arsebook post lists the Technical Board's members as MD, Football Manager, FD, Academy Manager, etc. Which could, of course, mean Board involvement either under FD (who dat?) or etc. It would be interesting to have this clarified (but I'm not on FB, so can't ask).

Well if anything it will put more pressure on NA and MB to make sure recruitment is spot on, has JP done them a favour probably not making it public. I imagine it will heighten supporters awareness of each signing that is made. We can do it now, Woolford not great, Salmon hit and miss Edgar fair start lot to prove, Hammond early doors but lacks pace and match fitness, Sharp works hard but misses lots of opportunities, minefield this recruitment.

What's not grey is that we never replace them adequately.

I suppose the big difference is that the recruitment is now targeted, rather than the previous broad-based (or random) approach. Woolford in anticipation of Murphy going. Sharp/Sammon to resolve the goalscoring problems (& in acknowledgement that Higgy wasn't up to the job as "big man" up top). Edgar & Hammond in the essential C/B & influential M/F roles.

As you say though, the jury's out as regards their quality (Billy Sharp excepted). And progress has been very slow on weeding out non-needed members of the bloated squad (although the chronic injury situation has a lot to do with this).

Given that we never actually spend the money anyway, what difference does it make how much we sell them for? Even if your memory only goes as far back as the 2 Kyles, you can see how foolish it is to sell the family silver, we have no track record of replacing them with equal or better quality.

Different issue.

The one thing I would say about the Murphy sale is: What's happened to the money? There may be an answer to that, but it's not clear.

Exactly. If only someone had invented the telephone, or email, or video conferencing. It would all be so different.

That's a very good description of our forays into the transfer market since the arrival of NA.

Its notable that there are no players who we would deem to be "game changers" so far and that's what we so desperately need in the spine of the team, game changers !! Tomorrow !!
Over to you "Technical Board" ...... :tumbleweed:

Lol. On that basis, Carrie Sampson must be HoT!

Suppose the lack of one on that list suggests that the FD (Football Director?) is a board member, maybe Jim himself.

I took FD to be Finance Director, probably need the money man in there to see if we can afford the Transfer Fee, Wages and Agents Fees

When money was raised, Cloughy used to send FD out the room for Hobnobs, which is why he was told to FO

Of course it has zero validity as far as you can see. You are engaged in an exercise in Nelsonian blindness where any criticism of the club is concerned.

For the reasons others have mentioned in response to you, and I have mentioned in previous threads, the selling the family silver policy has been a disaster. It is one of the reasons for our currently enjoying league one status for a fifth year in a row.
