Just want to add my thanks for all you attempted to do Jim. You are yet another example of the old maxim, "once a Blade, always a Blade". Good luck to you and hopefully we will all soon be celebrating our first step back to where we want to be. As you can see from the responses on here, you will always be welcome at BDTBL.

And some may even forget about you voting for "The Donald":)

PS, I'll whisper this quietly but I couldn't have voted Clinton either!;)

Phipps: "I didn't micro-manage the club, we had professional managers to do that".

Quite right. Our Board have not "micro-managed" the club at any stage.

Indeed ..... in fact many would say that our Board demonstrated over an extended period of time that they couldn't manage a bacon sandwich !:rolleyes:

Let's hope that those dark days are behind us forever ...... ;)

All in the past.

McCabe has picked just about more good managers than bad but the job has proved too big for them all until the 'Messiah' Chris Wilder joined us, thanks to an entrepreneurial instictive appointment last summer. Big, bold move that not many expected.

Well done Big Blade Kevin McCabe, suddenly you look so much cleverer than you did last season and all you've done is pick the right man at the right time finally. Thank you for Wilder and thanks to you and the Prince for the backing in January when it mattered.

I don't buy your McCabe love in at all he got Warnock right and I think everyone thought Badkins would be good so I won't hold that against him but the rest have been shit appointments ..... Absolute shite. Whether he got Wilder's appointment right or whether it was the cheap option come good is debatable. Let's not forget Wilder is in his first season at this level so didn't come without risk. When you look at Robson, Blackwell, Adams, Weir to name a few it doesn't give you much confidence that McCabe can spot a good manager, myself I think we are very lucky to have Wilder but hey McCabe said it was all down to luck anyway so what do I know?

If he reads this then I'll ask him a question. How can you justify voting for Donald Trump?

That would make a great thread on the Chat Forum.

Presumably he knows a bit more about America and American Politics than he does about football.. On my travels I spoke to a fair number of Yanks, none of whom admitted they supported Trump, vehemently the opposite mostly.

Hope he reads this and if he does then I send him and his family my best wishes.

I'd just love to know who is advising the Prince now but I suppose that's a step too far.

I read this article before bed last night, ended up dreaming about seeing Jim in Damon's with his family tucking into a full rack of ribs. I woke up hungry and very confused in equal parts.

I think he meant 'bad luck' with all the others.

Seriously I reckon Speed, Clough, Adkins, Weir ( under the circumstances) and Wilder were good appointments.

Robson, Blackwell certainly not.

Adams just came at the wrong time. Even when he arrived he looked knackered and scared. I sense O'Driscoll was next in line and I really wanted him here. Seems he would not have been big enough for the job either.

This is a big job and it needs a big man. In all my time I've only seen Harris, Bassett and to a lesser degree Warnock achieve anything and those were in days before Social Media and this high intensity Media coverage.

Hope I've not missed any names - all off the cuff as ever!

Eating in Damon's ........................................ sounds more like night terrors.

I'd vote for Donald Trump .................. especially if the only alternative was Corbyn.

Go on then.. please tell me why you would vote for a racist and a sexist ... someone with no political experience.. a failed businessman,
Who wants to rob from the poor and make the rich richer

I bet your one of these people who voted to remain in the EU and can't accept the majority of the country voted to leave, just like the majority in the USA voted for Trump but the rest can't accept it. Or maybe you are Scottish and want a referendum every few months until the result suits you.

Ha... brilliant... you didn't answer me.

I'll happily take a bet with you as you know so much about me..

I'll let you in on a little secret...

You stated Trump was voted in by the majority of the American public..

NOT TRUE!!

63 million people voted for Donald Trump.. there is roughly 300 million people living in the USA... so 1 in 5 Americans voted for him..

Hillary Clinton got 3 million more votes than Donald Trump

Who gives a flying fook about American politics and their voting system you might want to look at our system it is far from perfect maybe you should ask someone who knows their system better than I do. btw wish I was a failed business man a few $$$$ behind Trump

To be fair, Weir and his team did give an air of professionalism, forward thinking and spoke of modern and innovative plans. Had the chance to speak to him and Lee Carsley privately and candidly in their early tenure and they certainly presented a good picture and plan (yes, I know it's easy for people in football to sound like they know what they are doing, but it actually had some substance).

In practice, I think they were a little wet behind the ears and didn't necessarily appreciate the difficulty of the situation and the complexities of asking players at our level to do and buy into certain things - Once it started getting difficult, I think they lacked the experience in management to roll with the punches, re-evaluate their immediate plans and turn things back around.

It needed changing and he was a broken man, but I can see that there would be regret that it didn't work out and his grand plan failed before it even got going.

In some instances, the plan had also spiralled from the initial ideas and there were certain situations and setups that just simply weren't Sheffield United, if that was also a sign of things to come... then absolutely the correct decision to end it there. Without turning it into a "Bladey" argument, clubs tend like ours to be successful when their identity is clear and EVERYONE within the club is pulling in the same direction.

As regards the article, it contains a number of topics which I spoke with JimPhipps about soon after his arrival at the club for an intended article/Q&A I was going to do, I can only say he's a man that has certainly led an interesting and varied life and it's good that the Blades and Sheffield register as a positive experience amongst the things he's done. Whatever your personal thoughts on his performance or methods, the fact he's not run for the hills and ignored that he ever came to the Lane speaks volumes on how he bought into things.

I once read a comment - perhaps it was from Doyle - after Weir got sacked that the team were being encouraged to complete a certain number of passes every game, probably because Weir had read that if you complete x number of passes you have a y% chance of winning the match. Sounds very modern and forward-thinking, but actually shows a total naivety to what's actually required.

This is who is advising the Prince now:-

It's fair to say that he's kept a lower profile than Jim so far

Thought he was full of shit, still think he's full of shit. Hearing grown men fawning all over some bloke just because he worked for the club is embarrassing.

The naivety there was asking Doyle to complete a pass, sorry Dave but that is a far fetched idea if I ever heard one.

You cared enough about American politics to make yourself look a bit of a twat and got your arse handed to you, funny..........or should that be YEEHAW. Come on, give us a YEEHAW, you know it'll impress Uncle Jimbo :confused::cool:

In what way THC? I never professed to know much about American politics, as far as I can see they all throw mud and the one that makes the most stick on the other guy wins. The point of my original post if you care to read back is the lack of alternatives or should I say credible alternatives to Trump. A bit like choosing between shit pie or shit sandwich, similar to over here I'd vote for anyone before voting for Jeremy Corbyn. Do I detect an anti Jim Phipps agenda in your post too? Maybe you should ask Jim for his thoughts on the subject as I suspect you know about as much as me ............. or the square root of fuck all.

I was merely pointing out that you saying Trump was voted in by the majority of the American public was not true... which it isn't .... I never stated that the US voting system was fair.. neither is the UK's

His money was inherited from his family... had he invested in stocks and shares it would have been worth a lot more than the $1billion losses of his businesses over the last 40 odd years..

That would go some way to explaining why we never showed any conviction in opposition box.
