Past strategy, now out the window. Phipps gone, Adkins gone. Maybe a statement due from Kev following retained list release.

When Wilder was first associated he allegedly ruled out the Lane due to board interference, having changed his mind and now accepted the post something must have changed, you feel. Wouldn't be surprised to see some exciting additions to the team.

It should be doable in one transfer window but with the way this club does things it'll be next summer until we might have a team to challenge. That's if we don't sell anybody decent before then.

Massive job for Wilder. Playoffs would be an incredible achievement.

I have to disagree. Top 6 in this league should ALWAYS be the bare minimum due to the advantage we should have over other clubs.

Even reduced, our budget will still be right at the top for this division.

The task for Wilder, IMO, is easier than the task for Adkins as he effectively has a clean sheet.

Charlton did it, the pigs did it, clubs coming up from league 2 did.

We can do it, and SHOULD do it.

I'm sure Wilder will have players lined up already, hopefully the targets are realistic ( unlike with Adkins) and he'll land most of em...then its all about getting that team spirit and pulling together.

The whole can be greater than the sum of its parts..as we know to great effect at Sheffield United.

In a way the easy bit has been done (ok we still have to get some muggins to buy the transfer listed ones) - the hard bit is getting the promotion winning team assembled and playing together effectively as a team and that could well take a few windows.

Do you think we might get Dan Burn now?

Is it though? 6th place in L1 that difficult? We were dire this year and could have still made it with 5 to play. And we also lost to the bottom teams.

Agreed Esablade a few clubs have put a team together quickly and won promotion, Charlton did it with Powell and Wigan did it last season and both clubs finished as champions.
Bassett did similar with us so I see no reason why we shouldn't be in the mix next season. Bring it on.!!!

It all depends on who he is able to bring in. We should be able to attract the best players at this level, but if money is tied up in the wages of Brayford and Hammond then it may not be so easy.

We will have a better idea come the beginning of August.

Still very difficult. The process Jim outlined might have been speeded up, but there's still a load of potentially very disaffected players here to stink the place out & drag spirits down. (Are the likes of Paul Coutts or Kieron Freeman seriously going to knuckle down now in the way that John-Joe O'Toole did at Northampton, or whine & bitch instead?)

And, presumably, a fair bit of paying out's still going to need to be done to get some of the suchlike off the books &/or to ease transfers through. The limited budget Wilders going to have available to him will keep on getting squeezed. So maybe Jim was realistic about this & right after all.

Even so, CW has shown us what he's about & that he's got the cojones for the big challenge ahead. We're moving purposefully now, not just drifting along in mediocrity. Genuinely exciting times.

Intriguing to see now the type of player Chris is seeking to bring in.

The big clear out as well means we have to be one of the most attractive prospects for anyone willing to sign in this division. We've got a decent budget, players will be coming in with a clear path to first team football, and even if we're tightening the budget we'll still be offering more than most.

I know it's the hope that kills you, but I am feeling dangerously optimistic right now.

We've got a decent budget.

Have we? I haven't heard much about the budget apart from we will be "cutting our cloth"

I suspect there will be more than a few next season with a bigger transfer war chest, Charlton and MKD to name two.

Yes. If we didn't have a budget to bring players in we wouldn't be letting Wilder ship so many out. Obviously the outgoings clear some money for the incomings but with new players comes signing on and agent fees that retaining players avoids somewhat. It's clear that the remit allows the new manager to build from as close to scratch as possible. That wouldn't be the case if we didn't intend to give him a chance to spend.

And don't forget it's a relative scale. We're in a division where the most recent challengers for the top few spaces included Burton, Gillingham, and the rest. Compared to them, cutting our cloth still keeps us ahead of the field.

We might've had little to show for it but signings like Sammon, Edgar, Hammond, and Baptiste, will have had a price tag that many others in the division might not have been able to afford. When measuring ourselves against Fleetwood who aren't sure they can afford Scougall we have no excuses on the budget.
