Jesus Christ - Kop trouble

Because of the demand for tickets, they extended the corporate tickets. I believe (not 100% positive) that these "fans" were taken for a meal beforehand and had drinks before etc - once they entered the match they looked after themselves.

Correct-ish. My father-in-law is a pig, and he went on one of these corporate thingies, but he was sat in with the Wendy fans. The meal and drinks thing were at the Victoria Hotel.

Am sure I remember reading in a programme earlier in the season that there would be tickets in the United stand and any Wendy fan making themselves known would be ejected...

Suppose there could have been two corporates - one advertised to piggies and one advertised to us!

I don't care what excuses or reasons the Wednesday fans have, at the end of the day you DO NOT celebrate in the opposition end, full stop. Ignorance is not an excuse.

A rarely seen point of view from Duke, cheers for that.
You get good and bad stewards at all grounds.
Some take things too far or ignore too much, most are friendly and earn respect so don't get abuse or agrivation.
Worst i've known are Forest stewards (and poilce), we were being showered with coins and all they cared about was making us stay in our designated seating positions no matter how many times we got hit on the head. One even said 'what coins' and laughed!
I've never really seen the bad side of stewards at local grounds, I wasn't close enough to see properly what happened on Tuesday.
The only thing at Barnsley I saw that i thoight was 'over the top' but not major, was a female steward taking a can of vimto off someone in the crowd. As my friend sang at the steward 'it's just a can full of vimto, can full of vimto...........etc.' :D

No Probs

Thats very true, you obviously get different ends of the scale, you will get stewards who are a bit over the top as well as the stewards who don't want to enforce anything now in my view I think both types are not acceptable. The stewards that go over the top will loose the respect of the crowd and can cause more problems than the solve, and on the other end if a stewards enforces nothing then they are putting the supporters at risk as well as increasing demands on other stewards.

I believe that most stewards do a very good job and that they enforce the rules appropriately, they will obviously be supporters that don't like what stewards do either because they want to cause trouble, they have been ejected in the past or receive bad service from stewards.

I always say to our team that supporters will listen to you if you look the part and if you are fair, firm and polite, always in the first instance our stewards will be polite then depending on they response they receive will determine the course of action. Although if the offence is a serious one one they there is no time to be polite and firm action must be taken either to protect the individuals or other supporters.

The vimto issue I can see from both sides, initially the steward is following the rules correctly as cans bottle etc are banned in ground regulations but saying that I think that common sense must also be used and that I would let the supporter finish the drink providing they did so quickly and it wasn't affecting the game for other supporters or causing other problems.:)

Where we have intelligence or we suspect that away supporters are in home areas we as a team take proactive action where possible before any problems arise, it may not be possible on big matches to identify everyone but at least we are reducing the risk.

I firmly believe if that any supporter knowingly takes a seat in the wrong area of the ground and then are stupid enough to make themselves known i think that ejections are not enough, they should be prosecuted for incitement after all its not only the fan that gets caught in the trouble but family's, kids and innocent people.
