17 starts 2 goals.
Please equate that to DCL smashing it at Everton in the prem and the jug eared cunt first pick in our league for Brum and wanted for £5m?

DCL has been given a platform to perform, Sinclair has not (yet). Yes, he's made 17 appearances, but most of those are from the bench, and over the course of a few years. He's not had a run of games.

Strikers often have a 'breakthrough season', when they start scoring consistently. As soon as they've had that, and they start getting a goal scoring record, their value rockets. There's a good possibility that Sinclair can have that with us (assuming he signs), if he's provided a run of games and a platform to perform. Part of that means not writing him off before he's kicked a ball...

He's not had 17 starts at senior level, more like 7/8.

It's one that could go either way, it's the sort of signing we need to work out if we're to surpass expectations this season - it could be the sort of bonus that the likes of Wright, Freeman and Coutts gave us last season. He could be the pacy black striker we need, if so that's a big difference maker.

If there's anything wrong with his attitude then I'm confident that Wilder and our squad will put that right. He also badly needs to start establishing himself, he can't afford a poor season if he has any footballing ambition. So that bodes quite well. Wilder will say similar in his interview I bet.

Happy enough with this, if true. I can't see Mitchell, Wilder or Knill giving the go ahead on a forward that they don't think they can get playing to our intensity & our work ethic. Fits the bill for what we need athletically - the rest is up to him. Here's hoping we're the club where he shines.

Wilder has proved he can get the most out of players. He clearly has something about him for Liverpool to have signed him up for their academy then Watford to take him. He looks very direct and pacey which is exactly what I believe could be the final piece up top for us, there is no reason as to why he couldn't succeed here.

I'm down with the pacy black striker gig as you well know. Although he isn't French and his track record dosen't suggest he's really hungry
.
Still think it's ironic we are bringing in a young kid very simillar to 2 we took tuppence and a fucking red balloon for.
Time will tell.

The 2 we sold enabled us to build a promotion winning side. maybe CW wouldn't sell them if they were still here now.

That's a fair point whether true or not.
My point is about the huge irony of signing this kid.

It's clearly a gamble as was Evans.

Let's hope he can score goals for us because 5 in and only 1 person scoring is a slight worry.

I'm not a religious man but If I was I'd pray for Sharp to stay fit.

Also as has been said in almost every other post some pace is an absolute must.

Chris Wilder: “We’re in a better position and I’m possibly contradicting myself now, but maybe if we’d kept hold of the likes of, or tried a little bit harder to keep hold of the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and maybe one or two of the others [we’d benefit now that we’re] in the Championship. So hopefully we can do that now.” http://www.viewfromthejohnstreet.co...ame-of-transfer-call-my-bluff-at-bramall-lane

I'm not too fussed if the Birmingham fans don't rate him. They were a shambles last year with a crap manager in zola and no desernable style losing game after game - hardly the place for a young player to develop and excel .

Similar with Watford - a manager that was disliked by the vast majority of the fans and dreadful football.

Hopefully he comes with a point to prove and provides that attacking pace and additional spark which we don't neasecarily have atm. If not at it's a loan and fairly low risk I guess. Give the lad a chance, was well rated at Liverpool (enough for Watford to take the gamble on him)

I watched the Pigs v Brum on Sky back in Feb,and i can understand why they dont rate him, played down the left of centre and he just did not look at all interested, one game yes i know.

I'm sure the irony of taking £1m for DCL and the same for JEC then signing a similar player with more clubs than Jack Nicklaus and a fuck all rep isn't lost on you mate.
I pray this kid is 22 Carat.
This is Wilders biggest gamble!

Not sure how this is his biggest gamble at all. He's young and clearly well thought of at 2 PL clubs. I remember watching Liverpool at Exeter in the Cup not so long back and whilst he wasn't great he was bigged up by two former Liverpool players on the night.

This kid is a gamble but Ched is guaranteed to be a hit?

Only in S2 ;)

Tony Agana was an unrated Watford reserve player when we signed him. "Who?
Now we know!

Let's hope this lad can follow in his footsteps!

No. Ched isn't guaranteed to be a hit. Far from it. But he was good before. Very good in fact. In all honesty I think he was the best centre forward I've seen down there since Dearden, Edwards and Deane. He was simply unplayable at his best. I'd love to see that lad resurrect his career after all he's gone through. (Of his own stupidity I agree).

But everyone deserves a second chance.

He's way off at the moment - we can all see that. But let's give the lad an opportunity without criticising him. If it works out - fantastic. If not we did the right thing allowing him that chance.

Certainly a risk if Wilder is hoping this lad is coming to make a difference and immediate impact in the team.

Sounds to me like he needs some work to get into the way Wilder works. First thing for him to learn will be work ethic, so Wilder will have his work cut out there, motivating a young lad who's probably earning at least as much as our most established players.
Then there's the need to deal with men's football, and the physical demands he will face.
Finally, having the composure to actually put the ball in the net. Maybe the most important bit, and not something young talents have as a matter of course.

I'm hoping this lad is one of two new strikers to arrive. I would like a permanent addition so that we can let go Hanson, and rely less on Evans and Lavery. Clarke might also be a bit hit and miss consistent wise.

So this lad as a young gamble, plus a permanent more established goal scorer please Chris.

That's Tufty's intention, mate. :)

Is it only me who sees it as a positive that this kid really needs to make an impact at whoever his next club is to be? I love players who have a point to prove and with Wilder and the environment we have got here now it is the perfect place for such player to succeed.

Just out of interest, what are the stats to confirm the DCL "smashing it" assertion ?

Well in the short time since he left us he's won a World Cup,scoring the winning goal, played in Europe, something none of our players have ever done and cemented his position as a striker in one of the countrys biggest Premiership clubs.

I'd say he's smashing fuckin lot up.

Wouldn't say he was our biggest gamble this season, that accolade certainty lays with a certain chap who was wrongfully locked up and didn't kick a ball professionally for quite some time.

According to Wiki, DCL has played 14 games for Everton, scoring 1 goal. Smashing!

So being first choice at Everton in the Prem and Europe isn't smashing it?

I think you probably have lunaric criteria for what you would expect of the lad.

Personally I think he's literally got the world at his feet and unlike many I'm happy for him.
Must be sad being someone who prefers to snipe and knock someones success.
Indicates they probably thought that bloke dying of cancer who climbed Everest was a knob.

If we get him he has to deliver otherwise when his Watford contract is up the next stop will be division one

Every transfer is a gamble - some will come off, some won't. Tbf CW and co have a very impressive success rate since joining so it is fairly inconceivable that many on here are doubting his choices especially when Utd's budget is considered. A lot of people criticising linked players (usually without suggesting alternatives), seemingly are not aware of how much proven and in-form >L1 level or above strikers would cost. Perhaps seeing the fee paid for Asombalonga and Fulham's supposed offer for the one who strikes (in more ways than one) over at the Darkside will give them an idea. Until Utd are able to compete at that sort of level (without putting the future of the club at risk), then punts will have to be taken on players who for one reason or another are below their maximum market value. Sinclair would be a great example. If, and it is an if, CW can get him firing, he could prove to be another excellent and good value signing.
