Jebbo

My biggest doubt over him was after we recalled him from his loan at Burton. Nearly all of our strikers were injured and yet Jebbo wasn't even coming off the bench or making the bench. That spoke volumes to me. Yes, he scored in the Premier League, but so did Francis Jeffers and Danny Cadamateri and I wouldn't look back and say they made it in the Premier League.
That's true. There was a lot of clamour for him to come off the bench but clearly there was a reason why Hecky barely used him. I think he alluded to him not being ready once or twice.

You add that on to his struggles at Watford and it seems like there's a pattern developing of training poorly and having a bad attitude.

Looks like Watford can’t afford to carry him anymore and are looking at sending him back and getting a replacement in

Not good for him is it?

He needed to go somewhere where he’d play regularly, otherwise he’d probably be better off training with the quality at Muff.

Plymouth, Oxford? Even league 1.

Makes sense since he’s just not done it, not surprised, but a shame for the lad. Seems a little misguided. Let’s see where he ends up in Jan

His sliding doors moment was recalling him from Burton. He was doing well and had Hasslebaink’s guidance too if he had stayed there I reckon he could have kicked on but I don’t see him developing into what he could have now.

Can’t see him getting a Championship loan after this spell. As I said to SwissBlade he hasn’t kicked on since Burton and he’s going to end up back in League 1 on loan 4 years later. That’s incredibly bad imo

You’re right. He should’ve stayed put and we shouldn’t have pushed to get him back. He wasn’t ready and it did him and us no favours bringing him back.

I think league one was his level and perhaps still is

We needed someone in because we loaned out Mousset and Burke I think from memory. Incredibly short sighted move in hindsight

Yeah probably money related. We couldn’t afford to bring anyone else in so we went sensible and sentimental to keep the frothing mob at bay… there was some hype in bringing him back if I remember

Brewster’s injury forced it.
Jebbo managed 11 appearances for us that season.
Harry Kane got recalled from Norwich and then made 13 appearances for Leicester. It didn’t ruin him.

Sadly yet another young player who has listened to the hype from his Agent and maybe parents! In hindsight now - it was probably the worst thing that could happen for his career scoring the winner in the Premier League v Everton a few years ago.

Not sure what the relevance is? Firstly it’s Harry Kane? Secondly he was loaned out to another club and also I don’t have issue with recalling players sometimes it’s for the better however he was developing well at Burton and pulling him back halted that 11 appearances is made up of how many starts? Transfermarkt states he played 185 mins after coming back in the championship.

The relevance being that not every player that is recalled from loans turns it into a “sliding doors” moment. It didn’t make Harry Kane start turning up late for training.

Not only being recalled from loan, but then not playing him fucked us in more ways than one. Sharp was playing a ridiculous amount of minutes. Rotating him out or subbing him earlier in games would have probably prevented his injury and could have given Jebbo minutes to build on his good form and confidence from his Burton spell. We may have then won that Forest game with Sharp fit and gone up instead of them etc. etc.

Never thought he was any better average at best & seemed to spend more time injured than playing .. think that goal against Everton was his one & only highlight of his Sheff Utd career . Remember him being put clean through in one of the night games at The Lane in the Hecky promotion season with all the time in the world & he shot straight at the keeper . League 1 player at his best .. and apparently ill advised by his agent .. no loss , no sympathy, overrated & over hyped .. ta-ra ⚔️

Still dont see the relevance, I quite clearly state "His" as in his personal situation? As in had he stayed there I think his career would be further along than it is now.

Not every player reaches their potential but plenty get there a lot later than simple, linear progression.

Ivan Toney, Enda Stevens etc etc. Sometimes you have to reset at a lower level than you started at and build back up.

Kid has talent but this is a fair few setbacks now. Big test of his mental strength

Can't believe all of the people on here who believe that being recalled from a loan early (was it 3 years ago) has stalled his career. I suspect it has more to do with attitude and workrate.

Correct, a certain Mr Basham is another who was released and had to grind it back, what a success story..

Jebbo's beef with the club may have been about money, I *heard he was on about £2.500 plus bonuses, and i think after the Everton game he got the idea that he should have gotten more straight away when he was a regular..

* just what a mate said..

This season with our injuries up top he’d have started more games than he has for Watford & Bournemouth. We just have to look at Onè.

His best games for us were Hull & Sunderland then he came on and had a great cameo vs Cardiff I think? But then he was bloody awful in the next game against Huddersfield away.

He has all the attributes of a top striker but maybe being out for a year has knocked his progression back. It was a cheap punt/ gamble for Bournemouth so I doubt they’ll lose sleep over him being crap.

Whilst injured, telling people that you were on 4 times that would be a silly idea.

They brought him on in the 87 min to help see out their game against West Brom.
He was very half hearted and the Watford fans were clearly not happy with his 'contribution ', I expect Watford will send him back.

Yes, I remember the local press asking Hecky why Jebbo wasn't in the team if we'd gone to the trouble of recalling him from Burton.
His reply was that DJ needed to show him he was ready during the week in training - he knew exactly what he needed to do and thus far he hadn't done that. He more or less implied that a place in the starting 11 was his if he wanted it enough.

There's time for him to still get to the level his potential highlighted, but it's not looking good. Tbh he hasn't shown anything since returning from a long injury/illness and is currently a long way from Prem and even top-end Champ level. I'm sure he's doing well financially but his next contract will be significantly worse unless he somehow kicks-on. A shame but again, another story of believing his own (or his rep's) hype and thinking he's better than he is.
