JCR interview on Sheffield Live

Don't know if I quite agree with JCR being one of those wingers that beats his man 2 or 3 times before getting his cross in. Always had him down as being quite direct - though will keep a specific eye out for this over the next few games. Agree about his crosses being all over the place though, if I was him I'd just bang them in hard and low. As some have said I think his best role at the club would be as impact sub. I'd have Flynn starting with instructions to give it his all for 60 minutes, then throw JCR on for the last 30.

Agree with most of what you say MPF, but for me the most exciting site in football (apart from a goal being scored by your team) is watching a skillfull player beat an opposing player by slight of foot or by a drop of the shoulder.there is no better way of opening the ranks of an opposing
Team than taking a man out of the game by sheer skill.it will open up any defensive strategy but is a dying art as a lot of coaches seem to demand that the ball is moved quickly.it is still alive though as Messi ,renaldo and bale to name just a few prove, for me there will always be
room in a team for that kind of skill (puts bums on seats)

I was brought up watching players that dribbled past opponents - the master of which was Tony Currie.... (but loved players like Frank Worthington, Steve Heighway for the same reason) .... it involved a drop of the shoulder and slight of foot, and a shimmy, maybe a trick or two, and a look in the eyes that said to a full back or "half-back".... "I've completely got you in my pocket, you mug"... it was (and is) brilliant to watch when it's done with that intense opportunism that creates a gap behind the opponent, leaves him baffled, and opens up space and options for team-mates.....

..how I miss watching that happen... Hodges did it occasionally, Morris, Curran, Boborkis, Dellas were players that did it too from time to time.... but there haven't been that many at the Lane since Currie that could do it regularly - which is probably why we pine so much for his skills to visit us again.

You're right in that moving the ball quickly is now the focus .... understandable and effective... but wouldn't it just be great to see a team that could mix the two?

My god, I've got the friday night melancholy, once-upon-a-blade blues now, for sure!!!

Last season I think he beat his man more times than anyone in the history of the club before getting his crosses in.

This season I think he's much more direct.

(And, as posted before, imo the quality of his crosses is, generally, very good.)

I like JCR. He's often seen as the perfect game changer but to be fair he's also the sort who can torment any defence for a full 90 minutes. Preston away last season is a great example of that. Also against Blackpool there wasn't much happening anywhere until JCR got in his stride. I'd say he was the main reason we ended up winning that game. I'd much rather have him in our squad then anyone elses.

His issue as everyone knows is that it's unlikely you will get 2 good games in a row from him. In fact you are often unlikely to get two good half's in a row!

Just watched the interview, can't believe they scheduled him with 2 and a half pigs. Thought he spoke well of Nigel, the current regime and atmosphere around the place and not so well of the piggies :D.. I had to skip through the boxer though, so tedious.

Take the Goals on Sunday format, stick a Sheffield backdrop on it, move time back by 20 years, and you have that Sheffield Live programme. Not even the brutal honesty of Campbell-Ryce saves it.

I've always thought he was decent, but going by that, Alan Biggs ruined it for me. Referred to his prompt notes too much, made it awkward at times which meant to it not flowing good enough. Just my observation

Campbell Ryce he is a Blade
Is a Blade
Is a Blade
(repeat)
He hates Wednesday.

You can thank me later.

JCR: officially a Legend!
(Even though his crossing does at times make Simmo's penalty-taking seem deadly accurate).

Pelters! I think he means either they've thrown coins at him or shouted abuse at him. If so that just proves their lack of class. Good honest interview, I think Alan Biggs was quite taken aback.

I can't believe he said "I fucking hate the cunting pigs"

Legend

Like him as a player and he's won my heart now.

Wingers at this level are usually like him, I reckon he's one of the best though. Wingers and inconsistency are things you always hear in the same sentence, at any level really.

It just seemed awkward to me. All of that could have been condensed into about 15 minutes. Apart from the bit about Sheffield FC moving back home and JCR being honest it was mostly boring crap.

Watching this, pretty much all participants seem a bit bored..

Some interesting bits though, JCR saying training is 'now a happy place'
