..... especially now we know we are back in for Ryan Leonard and we can gauge the kind of backing it looks like Wilders getting in January .

Brooks undoubtedly has a lot of potential but it's abundantly clear that he just doesn't suit our formation or style of play .

Is he a Striker ? If he is is he really a better option than our current front 2 ?

Is he a midfielder ? Would you start him in place of Duffy or Fleck ? Could he perform effectively in the Coutts role ? The answer is assuredly no to both questions .

So we have an ' impact sub ' who's not making much of an impact right now when we can all see we need at least 2 new signings to go straight into the starting 11 . IF Leonard is the size of our ambition in the JTW and wilders available budget means thats all we can afford then surely it's time to cash in on Brooks and use the money raised to strengthen more ambitiously .

My head agrees.

My heart disagrees.

My penis is flaccid.

Why are we judging the standard of signing by the club they currently play for, league they play in and size of fee?

A lot of our current squad will be being admired by many in the championship and above and many were signed from unfashionable teams, leagues or even reserves.

Whilst I think many would like a ‘statement signing’ I think we are some way off this at present.

Why are we then using this as a reason to push the ‘sell brooks’ propaganda? The two are not mutually inclusive.

Evolution not revolution

It's not as simple as 'sell Brooks, sign a higher calibre of player than we could have previously'.

I'm going to have to ask this question again. Maybe it'll be 37th time lucky getting an answer:

'Who could we sign, who we couldn't already, who wouldn't smash the wage structure, whilst also adequately replacing Brooks?'

It's not Brooks we need to replace .

In terms of our wage structure , that's already been moved accordingly when we were promoted . Why shouldn't/couldn't it be moved again now we are battling it out at the top of the Championship ?

sat here shaking my head, then thought, 'that little tinker! Nearly had me then.'

We'd need to if we sold him. We have no one else like him. Don't underestimate the option he gives us.

So it's a Coutts replacement better than what we could currently get, a Brooks replacement (loan?), plus anything else we need (striker, wing back?).

It's not straightforward. It's not worth selling Brooks.

I don't underestimate what Brooks gives us , I just look at what he gives us in real terms right now and correctly judge that it's not a great deal .

Slightly uncertain about the OP's thoughts. There's a suggestion, no more, that Wilder knows he has a limited amount to play with. As we all post without actually knowing, it's a bit of a misleading suggestion, but I'll lean towards Wilder having a couple of million, maybe three, to play with. Not exactly going to set the world alight if those figures are correct, but who knows who Wilder might find hidden away in the lower depths of the football league? He's bought well since becoming manager, so I'll be happy to trust in his judgement. Don't forget, it looks like our Tottenham loanee might return to his home club, so we'll need someone to take his place too.

Regarding the sale of Brooks, whatever figure is decided, there's no guarantee Wilder would get all of this. So should a sale happen be prepared for far less than you imagined would be available.

Duffy will be 33 next season. Would I be starting Brooks anytime soon? Assuredly yes would be my answer.

Why ? Aside from potential what have you seen him actually deliver this season ? Hes had one good full game , one good substitute appearance and ......

We can probably get a few quid for the toilet seats too. The pens in the boardroom, another couple of quid...

Youve forgotten the bog rolls . And lets face it for Wilder to get the kind of Budget he deserves we'll have to sell the fuckin lot .

Every once in a while we have a player who's worth watching , something different and a bit special . Can we just keep him or a couple of seasons , otherwise what's the point . I don't think I will ever see us win the PL, be in the champions league, or even win an F A cup .. it's not why I go , it's because every now and again something special happens like last season , or a special player who gets you off your seat comes along .., just let's enjoy it whilst it lasts

He's not had a huge impact for a few games so sell him?

Selling him would be hasty and not worth it. We've got him on a 5 year deal. It'd be a stupid waste.

We'd have a big job on signing better players than we already can and we'd be relying heavily on our ageing strikers and an ageing Duffy maintaining their form.

We'll need to turn to Brooks at some point. Sooner rather than later IMO.

It's not only about his impact this season either. It's also about his undoubted incredible potential.

Is your erectile state directly related to our transfer earnings? There’s nowt like an enormous sell-on I guess...

This all sounds depressingly dismal . Wilders not spunkin moneh and Steve's not spunkin owt !

I can't work out whether or not the two threads on this subject are an ultra-sophisticated exercise in irony.

Years of complaining about the sale of the best and brightest assets and now people are practically trying to push one of them out of the door?

That's pretty astounding even by the standards of this clubs ever-deteriorating fan base.

Twat. I nearly bid for that tin hat. I can't help myself on EBay. I've got a dozen watches because of my EBay addiction. It's worse than online gambling for me.
by the bicorn for 400 smackers that looks like it's been ruined by sticking a watch on it.

Sorry but I’m just not prepared to enjoy anything.

Get him sold so I can complain that we are lacking a player like him please.
