Wilder's probably testing the water with the Prince who probably needs the club's PL dosh to pay off McCabe.
He's done brilliantly so far but the Prince might query the £20m coughed up for someone who so far looks like a re-run of Chris Guthrie back in the day and whether we can really afford more very significant signings.

100%

If the turn around of Lunny proves anything it’s that it’s idiotic to write someone off after a handful of appearances.

Even Leon Clarke looked a bust after 2/3s of his first season before coming alive.

Players like Stevens and Baldock have looked better and better each season. Let’s trust wilder to make the correct decisions as he has done at every turn

Plus we’ve invested heavily in these players’ potential - and that potential hasn’t changed despite their mixed starts here.

We’d need a very good reason to bail on that investment because we won’t get as much money for them now, and we can’t be racking up debt on turning over players due to impatience alone.

The fact Moose and McG look so exciting actually affords us more room show patience with Robinson and McBurnie. Yet people are actually using the comparison to justify flipping on that pair’s promise. Madness.

Clarke out and I would look to loan Moanes Dabour from Sevilla. They bought him in the summer for around £16m from RB Salzburg but then bought Javier Hernandez. They then tried to sell Dabour 3 weeks after buying him.

37 goals, 16 assists in 48 games last season.

I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Besic was recalled by Everton. He hasn’t been getting a game and they may be a little light in midfield with Gomez and Gbamin injured. So we would need midfield reinforcements.
The thing with players for Salzburg, is that the austrian league at the moment is like Man City playing in Scotland. You really can't judge how good the players are outside of european competition.

And lose £100m* in the process. Try selling that to PA.

*assessment of loss provided may not be accurate.

I know I'm looking at it from a fan's perspective and the people who will have to find the shortfall won't agree, but I've not gotta put my hand in my pocket, so spend spend spend! 😂

Do you think he’s available after scoring twice in the Europa League last Thursday? Maybe they’re just settling him in, as a foreigner in a new country.

Jack Rodwell apparently on a free in January.
Why would we be waiting until January, there's nothing stopping him training with us now? Not sure why we'd be looking at him, I cant see anything that would make him an improvement on what we have.

I may be way off here. but I had a feeling CR was brought in as a change of style player. should we switch to a front 3 he is great for coming inside from a left forward position like he did at Preston, so far in the time hes been given he hasnt showed the ability to be able to play a central role imo, on the other hand I do see McBurnie settling into his role, although you would hope a record signing starts a little quicker than he has.

Said it somewhere else but I read in the week Wilder talking about Robinson and McBurnie. He said he’s giving both players time. Sounded to me like he was trying to take the pressure off them after slow starts. But it makes total sense. Both completely new to the Premier League and both completely new to the system. I think Oli Norwood is the only signing we’ve made who’s slotted in seamlessly, and that was at a level he knew well. Many people had doubts over Egan, ditto Stevens, early on in our first Champ season. It took Baldock a while to break through and even then people longed for Kieran Freeman. That’s without even getting into Lundstram.

McBurnie has played half a dozen or so games. I think he'll come good, give the man time.
I remember people moaning about Billy Sharp both times we signed him & telling folk to be patient.
And I'll stick with my assessment that McBurnie will be a flop!
I see absolutely nothing in him to suggest that he will ever be an effective striker at this level.

Like the OP says it’s about the amount.

Our starting line up is very good and a player to come in and be better than what we currently have would be a lot of money!

I believe to cement our league status for 1+ years we need to have a second string 11 that can come in and at least compete.

Then in the summer look at where do we need? Whether it be a new CM or a new Striker then look to spend a majority of the budget on 1 or 2 Players.

We are injuries away from a downward turn. Bringing in another striker may make us finish 1/2 places higher. But if we get Egan and JoC injured we could drop 5/6 places!

Whilst the contract offered to him at Sunderland was down to the club and agent, he was still happy to sit around and bleed that club dry, knowing how strapped for cash they were at the time, when he could have looked for a transfer.

I am not sure that he has the hunger required to be part of a Wilder team.
Jack Rodwell did nothing wrong. At all. No ifs or buts about it. Don't give contracts you can't or don't want to honour. Sunderland were in the wrong on every level.

I get what you are saying And agree, but he has a really good record in European competitions too.

They were actively trying to sell him 3 weeks after he signed. He hasn’t played a single minute of la liga football, I would say they would be open to selling. While trying to find a link referencing the 3 week thing, I found this article. Just some random guy writing about it but may give people a bit more information about him.

I have a feeling in mi water that if CW decides McBurnie doesn’t suit/fit our style of play, we ain’t gonna get our money back for him

Paid way over the odds imo, although I hope he proves me wrong
Perform in the Prem and the world is your lobster. We are weeing in the big boys toilets now mate. That's the way it goes (although I doubt we will ditch McB just yet) Moose must now be worth at least £20m so if we were to get £10m for McB everyone's a winner.

And i'm not advocating ditching him either. I'm in the .... give him time and he will come good, camp.

So what? That’s football. Some you win, some you lose. Providing we can afford to lose the money, which we can, it doesn’t really matter. There’s always ‘waste’ at a football club.
And the way transfer fees are rising every season we could well get the bulk of it back if we sell him in the summer.

Whoever CW targets for transfer now, I`m sure that, apart from the "100% nothing else matters wage slaves" or players who feel they should be playing for huge clubs, most players will jump at the chance to become part of our adventure.

That’s just some bloke I’ve never heard of saying ‘he’s reight good’. Why did they list him after three weeks? Either they thought he wasn’t good enough or they thought he’s a twat.

They signed him in January but he didn’t join until the summer. In that time they changed managers and signed Luuk De Jong and Javier Hernandez.

who to replace? Didzy and Mousse are looking like our pairing, and i think we should stick with em...

Backup-wise, its difficult, we cannot really expect any striker to perform playing 10 minutes at the arse end of games.

We will strengthen midfield and defence... osborn will play a role in these areas, personally i think he will be absolutely quality for us in the end, we need a few more in this area
Bluntly, the two new lads who aren’t doing it !!

UTB

Keep telling you lot we need to keep a decent squad ready for our European adventures the following season - not shipping players out! Recall Duff at Christmas. Him big Leon and Sharp terrorising the defences of third rate European teams like FC Quarrybag/Glentoran etc. Simon Moore to save the decisive pen in the euro shoot out final! YHIHF

Well by that token, neither did Dean Hammond, and you'd have thought he was in league with Satan, by the reaction to him activating his contract renewal.

I agree that he didn't do anything wrong, but would you want the bloke playing for you? That's the point I was making. If the answer is yes, or more importantly if Wilder says yes, then it's fine by me.

Some did vilify Hammond for that, and again that wasn't his fault. That was another blinder by Adkins.

The contract situation with Sunderland has no bearing on my opinion in regards to his potential signing. It tells me nothing of his character. I'm more bothered about whether he is any good. I have my doubts - but we've seen Wilder turn water to wine, so improving Rodwell would be a walk in the park.

It was always wine. CW just knows to serve it at the right temperature.
