From the Yorkshire Post..........

The Blades have already improved one end of Bramall Lane, which holds 32,609, and in January will submit an application to increase the capacity of the Kop by 3,000. There are plans to redevelop the South Stand, taking the ground's capacity up to 40,000.

"That would put us in a position to submit to host matches at World Cup 2018 if England get it," said McCabe.

Interesting stuff. It was also pleasing to hear a few week back that they won't be making the Kop two tiered. It would kill of the atmosphere!

"That would put us in a position to submit to host matches at World Cup 2018 if England get it," said McCabe.

I really don't think so Kev, not even at todays stadium requirments for hosting international games.

I'll try to find the article, but i'm sure the minimum requirement would have to be 45,000 capacity for any stadium being used in the 2018 world cup. It could have been 35,000, they used a reference to the 2006 competition in Germany and I can't remember the specifications.

its a lil stupid to do this to be honest, no doubt i do want a ground with a capacity such as that...but 8000 more seats is gunna be pointless, we cant even fill the 33,000 we have now, and to be honest, id rather have a stadium like it is now, than have some more seats so we can have some world cup matches here

i hope he isnt doing this on the assumption of gettin promoted

kop needs redoing anyway so why not add a few more seats in while there doing it?

ayes, does need re doing, i spose adding som...infact nah...i think they should just make it look up to date and thats it

If we do get promoted though. there will be games where we are sold out again, much like a number of occasions last season. The PL is where we aim to be, so why not have a stadium prepared for doing so.

'kinell you ALL sit and say united are utter shit...and then you say we MAY get promoted...we was not good enough to stay in the premier league, and with our performances not being to our usual standard this season i dont think we will go up. but we do have a good chance if the players pick up their performances, who knows, if they do, pick up their performances that is, it will be a really tense close to the season thats for true

There is always a chance we may get promotoed, but if you are refering to my post then you will not see anywhere stating we will get promoted, just tha6t it is our aim. I also believe we will get to the PL in the future if we don't this season, so at that point we will need extra seating, NO?

So you're basically saying that we may end up back in the prem, so this surely means we will need extra seating? So your original point is what?

Have you had a fall and banged your head

If Sheffield United want to progress and become a bigger club then we need extra areas of revenue.

By having a bigger ground it would generate some extra money.
and if we went back into the premiership the extra revenue could help us compete finanical.

im saying we MAY get back up there...but thats lookin to be quite an optimistic statement...and i we didnt completely fill the whole ground last season...what makes you think addin 8thousand more seast will make people want to come....HOWWWWWWEVER...it will be good for the club as gazza said above...and i do agree with him...but i wouldnt go 'applyin' for this on the pretenses we are going up some time soon, they want to become a bigger club...they need more money...to get more money...they need to stay in the topflight...if they cant do that..its a waste of moneyit will be like wednesdaythey hold almost 40k and they dont get crowds as big as us...it looks well stupid...the atmosphere isnt as good as ours...as a championships side i like ours as it is...as a premierleague side...yeah bigger would be better...the only problem is...how they gunna do it lol fortunatly for me they cant makie it an oval shaped stadium...like the madejski stadium...i prefere it to look like goodison park...thats pretty nice...just red ofcourse...and i think that is feesable

So when do you suggest we do apply for planning application? When we know we have been promoted (let's just use this for arguments sake). So, we get promoted and then apply for extra seating, planning can take months to go through so then we would get permission when the new season starts. What does the club do then? They can't start building during the season as they would lose seats and money, whilst in the top flight, not goos business sense that. No, they get permissions early and build out of season to reduce disruption then we have a ground that is ready to take the extra people in when needed.

McCabe is a shrewed business man and will not be taking a gamble on this, he knows he may lose a small amount to start with. The club are already making money with off field ventures, this is what is allowing ground and club improvements.

hes aiming to get some world cup venue here if it comes off.

we did fill the ground last season a couple of times, as the ground actually holds about 32,609 or something like that, not actually 33,000 as many people believe

hmm after looking at the plans...i think it doesnt look half bad...except from the birds eye angle lol, like the biggest miss match aaaaaand i think the outside looks abit....tacly...but who knows may look better if it actually gets done

Is there an official count on how many seats there are in the ground?
