England u20 played in a promotion side ,turned out in the prem ,loan at the wall where they quite liked him he's not bobbar that knows.
He’ll definitely get given a chance, I just think it’s the most “Sheffield United” signing in the world.

And he's 24 ,,ossy is 30 in August and has had a few injuries ,
Shackleton has also had injuries as per the write ups in the Press, there is reference to this.

Just worth pointing out that we’re not exchanging one player who had injuries for one who didn’t. Obviously 24 is a better age to get over them than almost 30.

It also depends on the nature of the injuries.

He’s hardly had a stellar season last year.

What does this say about the other young right backs we’ve stockpiled?

What now for Seriki, Sachdev and Curtis?
The chances of making it via the academy are slim.

Bogel has been around what feels like forever and he's still only 23.

Shackleton has only ever had minor injuries that have kept him out for a few games at a time.

Although according to Transfermarkt he has only had one injury in his entire career. 😂

At the moment we need to recruit a squad with the funds we have available.
Aye, so why spunk them on a bang average RWB when we’ve got Seriki and Sanchev who could stand in? I know you’ll I’m negative, but it’s really hard to applaud this signing.

What if Bogle gets injured for 6 months just as the transfer window closes? We’d essentially be a man down every game for 6 months playing a boy who in all likelihood should be put back miles in terms of development and confidence being such an obvious weak link targeted by opponents.

I bet JS was on both lists. Take over or not.

No one is excited by this signing. It just makes sense.

You can apply that logic to every position. It’s pissing cash away that we apparently don’t have. Just another Osborn.

I think we’ll return to this debate later in the season.

Most managers want two senior players who can cover each position.

We currently do not have two senior players for right back and JS can cover multiple positions as well.

I’m not sure how that’s pissing money away. Relying on kids would be pissing points away.

This is not a season defining signing you’re worrying about so much. It’s literally the first body of 10+

We need bodies through the door. Some of these won't be world beaters, logic dictates that some will be hits and others will miss. Circumstances dictate that until we hear otherwise, many likely won't cost much.

There, that's expectations tempered. This is now a 3-4 window rebuild, IMO. Just aim for stability this season, as an absolute win. No hopes of bouncing straight back up.

Solid signing imo. We will need players with more stardust than this lad, but he is versatile and competent in a number of positions. What were dome fans expecting this summer re signings? He's the first of hopefully a good few and he's reliable and still young. Thumbs up from me for this one.

But we need to recruit & nurture players who will ultimately be capable of competing in the Prem if we’re ever going to progress.
We have other positions in the team that need strengthening before we consider replacing positions that don't. Rebuilds don't happen in one season. Rome wasn't built in a day. Financially, getting back up straight away would be good for the club. Staying down would be better for long term rebuilding of the team. Going up again so soon would likely see a repeat of last season. I'd rather us stay down for 2-3 seasons and slowly build the right quality team.

Marcelo Bielsa rated him and trusted him. Now he might look like Jack Duckworth, but I think he knows a fair bit about football. Solid signing for the squad and on a free.
Bielsa saw him as a 6 not as a RB. Millwall played him in a similar position.

Quote below from a mate of mine who's a Leeds fan. Sounds promising.

"I think he’s a right player. Always puts 110% in, lots of pace, can play anywhere on the pitch and loves a tackle, he’s a cracking little player and was brilliant for us at the beginning of the season just a shame he got injured"

Booker4 similar comments from a Leeds mate of mine “tidy with the ball, very versatile and puts a shift in, he’s an 8/10 player who will run himself into the ground”

Speak for yourself.
I'm very excited with this signing, I'm at a stage where I'm almost exited to hear Souza is back for training!!!!
FFS LET SOMETHING HAPPEN!!!!

No chence, you take every promotion when it comes, the longer we leave it the less chance we get, we have a very near neighbour who knows all about waiting over 24 years and counting to get back to the top flight… promotion is crucial to building, as that brings with it the cash for players and club infrastructure.

People never learn do they.

I remember the meltdown when we signed Jake Wright. I also remember the glee when we signed Leon Britton.

Not every signing will work. But this signing especially given his record (mid table/top end champ) is one we should definitely wait and see on.

If this lad should prove to be anywhere near as good a signing as was that of Jake Wright I will be more than happy.

For someone with no particular record of having any special attributes or success as a player , the impact he had on our defensive stability in his regrettably short time with us was imo quite outstanding .

In this respect , he had many similarities with one of my all time Blades heroes John Flynn .

Your comparison to his signing and that of Leon Britton is also entirely appropriate , since the latter was never as good a player as some would have us believe and in his time with us made it clear that he didn’t really give a shit.

8/10? I suggest the Leeds Deadbat is far more lenient with his marking.

Let’s not forget Leon scored 4 against Hull and only came away with a 9/10, so this Shackleton must be some player to be 8/10 every week!

Martin Cranie was another one.
