Good question.

A few months ago I would have said definitely Che Adams. I always thought Murphy was a bit lightweight inconsistent and a confidence player. Although his running style reminded me of Chris Waddle ie he looked slow and knackered.

Whereas Adams has much more power and goal scoring threat.

However Adams doesn't seem quite as good since he's signed his new contract however some clubs do seem to double mark him which makes him ineffective.

Anyway I'd still say Adams will have a bigger career than Murphy.

Yeah, I'm inclined to say Adams too, with his raw power, his drive & directness, his self-confidence, & his finishing ability. Lot of developing to do yet though.

Got to say I've been impressed with how quickly Murphy's adapted successfully to life in a higher division though, & with a team gunning for promotion too. I honestly thought he'd struggle a bit to establish himself there at first.

Murphy. Adams is still very raw and, for me, if he doesn't score then he offers little to the team (ironically so did Murphy when he first joined us) and this is something I feel he needs to improve on. I'd contrast him with Sharp who even whilst not scoring adds to the team in terms of runs, hold up etc

Murphy, for the simple reason that he's already playing for a team that's doing well in the Championship, while we're hardly convincing promotion challengers in Div 1. Of course Adams could be sold to a Prem team before Brighton get there, but I'd wager Murphy based on his current team's position.

Lack of discipline, focus and self-belief, are we talking about his alleged night out with young Harrison or something else?

He might lack positional discipline but I'm struggling to see any lack of self-belief in him.

Murphy is ahead at the moment but I think Adams has the potential to be better and go higher - hopefully with us but unlikely given our record of selling our better players. I think both need to be far more consistent though.

I think Adams has more of the basic tools and if he applies himself correctly and stays injury free, then he can go further than Murphy. I think the best Murphy can hope for is lower Prem and some international recognition for Scotland whereas Adams potentially could play for one of the big 6 or 7. He has so much raw power and pace and balance. It’s all down to him how far he goes.


I thought the OP was going to ask who we would rather have at the club right now which would also be a tough question because even though I think Adams could go to the very top, I also think Murphy is the more natural left winger and with Sharp, Sammon, Done, McNulty etc as options up front, I think Murphy would fit into our current side better.

It's very hard to judge how much Adams is capable of improving.

As it stands he's got a big uphill battle to make it to the top division.

They have both scored goals vs much better opposition - that's why they are (or have been) in the spotlight
Murphy, undoubtedly, has more trickery to call on
Che has more strength and a lack of fear to fall back on.
Both will do well in a higher division but Che needs to develop and learn so much more.
At the moment, Murphy is by far the most complete of the two.
Whether Che can overtake him remains to be seen - depends if he stays with us or moves on - and how much game time he gets, if and when he moves.
Adams looks to have more of the physical attributes that are required to go further - if he learns quickly and exploits that physique then it will be he that will end up being the most successful.

Murphy without a doubt, not really sure what is Adams best position as yet so can only say he has potential. Both are capable of scoring goals but Che cant take the ball past an opponent with ease like Murphy can he is going to have to learn how to use his strength to gain an advantage.

Adams has the build of a Premiership player and someone will take a gamble on him if we don't get promoted. Simple as that really.

Well I'm not sure how you can compare the two. The only reason you are comparing the 2 is that Adams is a few years younger than Murphy.

However, Adams is 19 (not an unusual age for a player to be playing st their peak nowadays) and is, at best, 'one of the better players' in a distinctly average League 1 side. It's very tough to see how he can make such an improvement to reach major heights.

Dele Alli is a decent prem player, but he was absolutely class above in this division when he played for MK Dons at 18 years old. It's hard to see Adams emulating Murphy at this stage.

Murphy is a much better player than the one who was our player of the year. He was surrounded by poorer players and was doubled up on every match because opposition knew he was our only threat. In a good, balanced team Murphy is a class above Adams IMO.

Hmm, I'm not sure he has, Murphy beat players with pace and perseverance rather than tricks.

Re which player will go higher I'd say Che based on the fact he has the necessary physique to go with the pace, if we're talking which player would be better in our team right now you'd say Murphy as he currently offers more end product in terms of assists... If only we could have both eh...

Last paragraph spot on. Pity that Adams personality may screw him up. I can't see him knuckling down and becoming a 10 to 12 year solid pro which the Kyles will manage.

Adams looks overweight and the discipline issue resulting in him being dropped for a match at a time when he ought to be trying everything to impress a new manager is a concern.

Having said that the lad is only 19 so if he buckles down, works hard he could be a real asset.

Murphy is 26 years old so as a comparison, it's not really comparing like with like. However at 19 (Adams age) Murphy had played 53 scored 4 for Motherwell. Adams played 25 scored 10. I would suggest that the Scottish Premiership and League 1 are about the same level.

So on that 'score', Adams is on top at the moment.

Murphy will be playing in the Premier League next season, so unless you see Che signing for a Champions League club the best it will be will be a draw.

(Unless Che has an Irish Granny Murphy is more likely to get an International call up if that means anything)

Adams potentially should be the better player by a country mile, he has all the physical attributes required, but he has a great deal to learn if he is to make the most of them. That means dedication, application, determination, sacrifice and a single minded desire to reach the top.

On that basis, from what I've seen, I would imagine Murphy will play at the higher level.

Murphy definitely. He's taken to the Championship very well already and is now in a team where he's not seen as the only attacking threat, which he was for us most of last season. It means there's less pressure on him and he's performing very well for them.

The way they've started Brighton could well win promotion, even if they don't, if Murphy continues to improve the way he has then he'll get a Premier League move in about 18 months time.

Che has a lot of potential but that's all it is at the moment, he needs to fulfil it. Murphy is already beginning to fulfil his.
