Agreed, liked the look of him and thought he was unlucky to lose his place especially when JOC was much more culpable for some of the goals we conceded. I also remember Wright heaping praise on him after the Oxford game for his defensive performances.

That being said EEL has taken the shirt and JOC has also improved. Wright is a class act. So it might be hard for him to break back into the team now.

Obviously not entirely his fault but...

He's played 9 games.

W = 2
L = 4
D = 3

Without him:

W = 12
L = 1
D = 4

He can go on the bench but in front of him in the pecking order are - EEL, O'Connell, Wright & Basham

Disagree totally about Basham. He has never been a Centre Back.......... If memory serves me right CW has also stated Basham is a midfielder and not a centre back.

Great to have him recovering, will need all the players we've got over the next few months and he'll obviously want to earn his champions medal!

To be fair, Wilson played in a back five containing Long, Brayford and Hussey, different ball game now.

As others have said, he looked better (or less of a risk) than JOC early season and if he's fit, I wouldn't have any problem if he replaced a departing EEL.

I disagree total ,don't mind Basham at the back ,he brings the ball out and gives us another dimension. Who would you replace in midfield with him ? He is miles away from being Coutts ,Fleck or Duffy.

Listening to Tufty's midweek 'chat' it seems clear to me that he's got someone lined up in January and it wouldn't surprise me if it's in midfield. He knows as well as the rest of us how key the current midfield three are and I think Basham, as you say, isn't a replacement for any of them at least not to perform to the same level.

I've been critical of Bash as a CB but fair play, he played well on Saturday.

Good to have Wilson back in contention, a bit more competition for places doesn't do any harm and once the others start picking up bookings, I'm sure he will feature.

Thats my point really Sitwell, Basham is not close to any of our midfielders or to Freeman at wingback. I think he is shoe horned in a little at centre back.

Our best 3 at the back without a shadow of a doubt is EEL, Wright, O'Connell.

Basham has been the luckiest player i have known this season. Just when you think his time is up we get an injury to Freeman, Wright, Wilson..... I love his commitment and passion but in our best 11 he would not be in.

My humble opinion only mind

You must phone Football Heaven or at least listen to the weirdo's that have been slagging him off.

If memory serves me right CW has also stated Basham is a midfielder and not a centre back.

And yet CW still plays Basham at CB as opposed to the CB on the bench (Brown). Brown must be awful if a crap midfielder is keeping a centre back out, at centre back.

Chris Basham is a utility player, someone great to have around the club when suspensions and injuries kick in. He is a capable deputy at CB and CM and has also played RB and RM.

but in our best 11 he would not be in.

I don't think anybody has suggested that

Not slagging Basham off at all. I just dont see him as being in our starting line up if we had a fully fit squad. As i have said before, i like his passion a commitment and due to injuries is vital to the squad, but i think most would agree our first choice midfield, wingback and centre backs are all better than Basham.
As for Brown, now thats a different matter. Just not good enough full stop. I actually thought Brown was brought in as cover for Freeman, either way Matt i don't rate him at all.

Someone mentioned him the other month, but Squinny could fill in seamlessly for any of our midfield three. Not getting a look in at Reading.

Gerrimback! ;)

Reading this thread it seems we now have something we've lacked for a long, long time - depth and strength in most positions. I'm not at all suggesting that improvements can't be made, but as things stand we're now in the fortunate position of knowing that if a player is injured, or has a loss of form, there's someone else eager to take their place. I know it's been commented on elsewhere, but Wilder has addressed so much in so little time, talk about a new broom!

Add to which the January transfer window. Everyone signed to this club should realise that they have to perform at peak levels, otherwise they'll be warming the bench, and that's if they're lucky!

Heres a thought.....perhaps the lad will slot in when needed and potentially take over from EEL. He's a good age, and in a confident side may well be a different player.

Said it before but Wilsons goal against Oxford was the turning point in this season. he deserves the recognition for that alone, Ive not seen him play anywhere but CB, but hes supposed to be Ok at both LB and RB and we are going to need that type of player fit.

Disagree with those saying Wilson was looking better than O'Connell, for my money, yes JOC made a few errors early doors but he was holding his hand up taking responsibility at centre half. I got the impression Wilson was hiding and shying away from taking the same responsibility. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as I've not really seen Wilson enough, but I'll take some convincing that he can fit in to that defence.
