James McAtee

I don't think he solves any of our major problems.
We need someone to connect the midfield and attack and provide a goal threat. Doyle's not that type of player.
I agree that's the kind of player we ideally need. But I don't think McAtee is necessarily that either, his real impact is final third.( and we need goals and assists as well)..of course things may have changed after a summer on the training field with Pep. I think purely tactically Palmer or Chukwuemeka would have been a better fit. But I do think keeping possession is next on the list of problems and for this we still depend on Norwood ( see Forest game) - Doyle would give us a more dynamic option ...if we do still have cash for one more transfer this season, given how the Archer deal was structured.

Isn’t Hamer playing deep the Norwood answer, him and Sousa winning ball and getting it forward quickly

I find it fascinating that there are constantly reports of the likes of Southampton and Leicester awaiting news on McAtee. Even if City don't want him in a relegation struggle with us, there will be other Premier League sides more than happy to give him a place in their side. What would be the point for his development in another Championship season?
Tend to agree. I think Saints and Leicester have absolutely no chance.

He's just got promoted with us.

I don't see what value at all him dropping back down does him.

It's either us, a team better placed than us (and then you have to question potential minutes) or it's a European team that can condition him to a different style or European competition.

Either way, back down to the Championship is way down the list of priorities for the lad.

O'Rourke is usually on the money and if McAtee himself has any say in this whatsoever, surely we would be first choice?

Get it done Blades.

You asked why he'd go to the Championship and not the PL, I'm saying why I think City would rather that happen.
And I was saying there was negligible value in that for city or the player.

The options for City are:

1) Keep him and he doesn't play
2) Play towards the bottom of the PL in a struggling side who will probably not be very attacking or creative (the opposite of Man City)
3) Play at the top of the Championship in a side who will probably be a Championship version of Man City (possession heavy, lots of attacking play)

I'd say 3 is the best option for Man City but that's just personal opinion and also respect yours.

But he's already done that. He'll be 21 this season. Shouldn't their goal be to test him against better opposition?

It depends whether they want him playing a brand of football completely different to what they play or not, you stick him in our team at the moment and it will teach him things about the PL and how to struggle at the bottom, City might not want that.

It's all supposition on my part though. I imagine they'd rather him play similarly to how they play to develop him in their mould of a footballer, if this is the case then the top of the Championship is probably the best place for him, unless a decent European side are interested.

If the £5m figure is correct then that is an absolute snip.

I wonder if it's cheaper as a sweetener for Nunes?

Surely Doyle hasn't been available for £5m all summer and we haven't taken it.

It's a mostly irrelevant figure. They can word it as City paying £35m for Nunes and Wolves paying £5m for Doyle, or they can word it as City paying £50m for Nunes and Wolves paying £20m for Doyle, it's still the same deal with the exception that City get more of a sell on amount down the line

With the difference that City spend less for FFP. £5m my harris

50% sell on clause.

Feels like this is the sting in the tail re Mcatee

Can see this still happening and scuppering our chances of getting any attacker / creator in on loan.
