They were both good. We need 2 centre-attacking mids bringing in ideally for the exact reason you have highlighted. TJB.

My only reservation with Doyle would be whether he can shut the gate as a CDM.
He has a lot to his game, but when you're playing in a 3 man midfield and you're the central figure it's a really physical and difficult role to play.

If you'd prefer McAfee over Doyle, who would you select /acquire to play at the 2 in front of the defence?
Berge is on obvious choice but that leaves Norwood (who I still rate but can't play with Berge), Fleck and Osborn. Coulibaly surely isn't anywhere near contention due to his injury record and inconsistency.
For that reason and that Utd have Ndiaye and Traore that can play off McB, I think Doyle would be required more out of the two (although both would return in an ideal world).

I agree that we need 2 midfielders. 1 DM, and then depending on the role Slimane plays, either a box to box player, or an out and out attacking mid.
 
Berge played so much better alongside Doyle, they dovetailed and covered each naturally, Doyle was just very kinetic and mobile, with a lot of intelligence for a young player. Berge and Norwood just seem to get in each other way and Norwood always asserts himself. I think this is just a really added value with Doyle over other options, along with the fact he could actually be our player for the next few years ( and future captain material). McAtee will always be a loan and nothing more, but what I would say in his favour, if we could only choose one, is goals, he looks a real natural goalscorer to me and he can score from a number of positions and situations, not just a box poacher. If we can could find a system to incorporate him and Ndiaye in the same team, in the Prem, that could be our best means to getting the goals to have a chance of staying up, but it really depends on how Hecky wants us to play.
 
Too many people thinking Anis will be a starter for us this season. He is an unknown. I am scared shitless thinking he will be one of the three in the midfield. Berge back-up great... Starter no.
 
I think we should be trying everything to get Tommy back personally, especially if its on a perm!
 
We need both of them back. James on a loan at the end of the window and Tommy asap on a permanent.

norwoods problem for me is that he plays too deep leaving us short of numbers in midfield egan and anel are quite capable of bringing the ball out from the back
 

We have Fleck Osborn Coulibaly Slimane Norwood and Berge which makes six players for three places.
Do people think we are gonna sign two more midfielders making eight ?
If so why the fuck did we keep Fleck ?
Don’t get me wrong coz I think we need to replace what we’ve lost in Doyle’s energy and McAtees creativity and goals.
But having kept Fleck and Osborn , are we really going with EIGHT midfielders on our tight budget ?
I doubt we will get more than one more midfielder and if forced to choose between a Doyle type and s as McAtee type I think we need the creativity & goals.
Of course I would happily get two more and get rid of Fleck & Osborn but unfortunately that decision has been made.

We'll almost definitely be looking to bring at least one in as a domestic loan.

Could be Doyle if City aren't able to find a permanent buyer, could be O'Brien.

If we do bring in another after that I expect that to be more in the attacking midfield/support striker role.

Based on what exactly has made you shit scared that Anis will be starting....45 minutes in a friendly where he hit the bar?

Let's reserve judgement for a bit eh, the lad is only just starting to learn how we play and what his role would be.

Wat too many people over eager to write players off before they get chance to bed in.

4 of those 6 can only be bench players at best so yes we do need 2 more midfielders to come in hopefully doyle and obrien

Yes I think we'll definitely sign two more midfielders.

-Fleck only started 14/46 championship matches last season.
-Osborn started 10 (not all in midfield).
-Coulibaly started zero.

None of those three are planned/expected/wanted to be starting midfielders next season. Hecky isn't daft and the Prince doesn't want us to get relegated.

I think you are bang on. We are not going to give contracts to all those players and then bring 3 more in. I just hope at least, we are looking for Doyle or a n other starting centre mid in his place.
 
I think if we get two midfielder in then Coulibaly may be loaned or sold. A bit tricky given he's injured at the moment though.

we need 2 imo if we only sign doyle were going to struggle in midfield fleck osborn coulibally and norwood just arnt good enough to be starters in the premier league still cannot understand why fleck and osborn were given new contracts they couldnt get in our championship team

Ozzy is a complete mess in midfield. He is a LWB and a decent one.

We desperately need a midfield enforcer. Fleck can't run or tackle, Norwood won't allow breaking up the opposition interfere with his pointing responsibilities and Berges' only connection to tackle is what dangles between his legs. We don't yet know what Slimane will bring. I think Couliballys role at the club is purely his exotic background as he isn't getting anywhere near the first team squad. We do need 2 middies, both of which need to be good enough to start. Fine if Doyle is one.
