CONFIRMED James Hanson

Oh dear Fin. Hanson would be a bad signing from Wilder in my opinion, just because we are doing well in terms of table position doesn't mean we're not allowed to point out a likely mistake when we see one

The thing about this is that, quite rightly, you are entitled to an opinion it's just that Chris Wilder disagree's and his opinion (apparently) is that James Hanson would be a good signing. Who's opinion do you think holds more weight at this current moment? Yours or Chris Wilder's?

I'm not saying that you are wrong, i'm not saying Hanson will be a good signing. I'm saying lets see what happens before we start having a dig. He might not even sign, he might sign and then score the goals to take us up. You've no idea and there's been plenty of times in the past where the fan's opinions have proven to be very far off the mark.

There seems to be a lot of people talking about 'trusting' Wilder, until he signs one player they disagree with and then they don't trust him any more.

My opinion for what it's worth is that Hanson is completely different to what we've already got and he would offer something else.

According to this forum, any other team that signs a player (good or bad) is a decent signing, but when SU sign someone his ability seems to come into question...you guys may have seen him play, but he's not played under the guidance of Mr Wilder, so FFS lets see what he's like before we get into a hissy fit!!
Spot on mate!

If we'd signed him a couple of years ago most would have been happy,

Spot on and it'd be the same whoever we signed, Twitter is even worse, it usually start because somebody knows somebody who a mate of a fan's Dad's brother who supports the selling club. ;) We even had a poster giving it the big 'I told you so!' when Caruthers got injured, even though kid kid had hardly missed a game in 3 seasons.

I think Wilder's earnt our trust and now isn't the time to doubt him, (Clap clap), but as long as we all back Hanson on the pitch where it matters it's not a problem. Personally, I think this is going to be a very good signing.

Not realised until just now that he's out of contract at the end of the season.

Starting to make a little more senseless now. Should be decent value.

Also, my BCFC mate reckons he'll be "awesome" alongside someone like sharp or done.

He's going to be our very own league 1 version of Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Joking a side my only thought about affecting our playing style is if we've got 6 attack minded players (excluding the CB's and GK) who are all comfortable playing dynamic, quick football on the floor, then putting someone like Hanson in the mix will to at least some extent (may be negligible may be significant) impair that as we're then playing with 5 +1 if you like

Hope the six figure fee is ....£6 ...

Seriously ...I know we are trying get out of this league ona tight budget ..but surely a decent loan striker from a higher level ..would have been more prudent ...as we are lumped with another signing on wages too high and next year we will not be le to get red...

Saying all that if we can shift Clarke on and his wages pay for Hanson ..then it's not a disaster

I can see it now.

Hanson comes off the bench at Fleetwood tomorrow to a chorus of boos.

A visibly distraught Hanson then goes on to narrowly miss a chance after 5 mins of being on. Thus sealing his fate as the boos grow ever louder.

As I leave the lane I hear the distant chatter of fellow blades all proclaiming to have been right all along about Hanson. Each and every one of them blissfully unaware of the concept of self-fulfilling prophecies or even the very notion that slagging a player off before he has even kicked a ball for us might just have a negative impact on their self-esteem.

He will get a good reception.

Sometimes you get drawn into the notion the minority on here speak for the majority.
Such as the booing of Leon Clarke on debut (came on to a good reception)
& who can forget the Bolton boycott (sold every seat)

Announced tomorrow apparently.

One star for correct thread?

I hope so Treeton, I won't forget poor old Richard Cresswell being booed onto the pitch on his debut, a real low point for me as a Blade.

Any player who signs for us should be supported by the fans for as long as they remain a squad player and employee of Sheffield United.

Cresswell was no world beater but he put his body on the line and got stuck in, every chance he got.

Good points with Leon and Bolton mate. Maybe I'm too busy being negative about the negativity surrounding people being negative towards players they perceive to be negative (my head hurts now, which also makes me feel pretty negative).

I haven't read all of the pages on this thread so apologies if this has been mentioned before

As well as adding much needed strength, height and heading ability up front, has anyone else considered what those attributes can help us defend from set pieces in defence too ? How many times have we conceded from these situations this season?
My view is that he will earn his keep at both ends of the pitch.

I also believe that if the fans get behind him properly it will make him a much better player for us. Silly fans who want to boo or deride him cannot have United's promotion interests at heart.. Stay at home or go back to S6.

Latest from my Bradford mates is a stumbling block over payment terms.
Still a lot of negativity I see.

Let's hope each and every CB who plays against us feels just as disheartened, when they see him coming on as a sub at 70 minutes.

A lot seem convinced this is how he is going to be used, how does anyone know this?

Has there been a post from Sunjihi leaking the team and match day tactics that I've missed?

No names. No pack drill. No evidence.

It's exceedingly unlikely in my view. My guess is the fee and contract will make him our most expensive signing of the season. From his point of view he's joining us for the best years of his career. He'll be starting soon enough.

A lot also seem convinced that he won't be of any use to us but i'm not sure how they know this either, considering he hasn't even signed for us yet let alone played a game.

I, like most dont know enough about hansons main skills, because he is tall we all think he is a one trick pony and is only there for his height, and possibky thats it, but I remember peter crouch coming on the scene a few years ago, another 8' beanpole but he is no natural header of the ball, he obviously wins a lot in the air due to his height but crouch can play football and is as good with the ball played to feet as in the air and so the balls to him can be varied and late on even if he has played from the kick off if they are losing then start to getit to him in the air, Hanson on the face of it looks similar in stature, tall but not muscular, is Hanson similar player? Are we all presuming it will be hoof if he starts? I would appreciate somebody with more knowledge of him and letting us kniw, Ricky has a good insight, what do you think.

Watched him fairly closely over there this season and he played very well. He is a big unit, rather slow and you don't often see him sprinting, more taking up position to claim his bit of territory which he commands physically and with crafty use of his body. Gets control of his headers and is very aware of his team-mates positions. As far as I could see he and they were on the same wave length and he headed towards them far more than attempts on goal.

20 league appearances, 4 goals and 1 assist. Seems to be a 1 goal in 4 appearances man over the years.

Hanson is a phenomenally good header of a football. If we get enough crosses in, he will score goals. He's not so good on the deck but no donkey either.
