That would be more like it.. but is it going to happen?

It's only going to happen if the Board decide that they will support Tufty in his quest to get us out of this Division this year ....... we're at a "fork in the road" at the moment .......

One way takes us towards competing for the top two places and the other way takes us towards the "lottery" of the play-offs ......:eek::eek:o_O

UTB & FTP

The more you think about how we play the more it makes sense.

We dominate the midfield, we attack mainly down the wings and we put in loads of crosses each game game.

It's alright taking Bradford fans opinions, but I highly doubt they play the same way, or have the same quality players as us, especially in midfield.

Hanson would have quality all around him, we wouldn't just lump it up to him because he's a tall striker, we'd play it around in the same way. However what we've been lacking is a striker who can win aerial battles, and put a finish to some of the balls we play in from the wings.

I'd fancy him and Billy up top. We're top of the league without a goalscoring partner for Shar

Can't understand the negatively on here. Hanson is a different option to anything we have and is the type of player that is willing to do the donkey work, so the likes of Sharp can feed of him. Leon Clarke is not an out and out target man and he wants to be the main goalscorer instead of sharp, which is why the partnership isn't going to work. The same problem would occur if we signed Gregory or Vaughan. Both of these play alongside similar players to Hanson (Morrison and Pope).

This doesnt at all excite or enthuse me. If he scores goals i dont care but nothing in his career points to that happening here.

Even if you don't rate him as a footballer, you can't knock is shelf stacking skills. :)

In Wilder's post match interview he stated that we shopped at a specific level. No spending of a million or more, so the budgetary balancing act that the board expect our manager to work within reflects the lack of ambition the board have. Surely expectations should change as the season progresses? If he's told that he has no more than £3-4 hundred thousand to play with, given our league position, and the Prince's reasons for wanting to be involved with United, I would have thought that a brief phone call reassuring Wilder that his budgetary ambitions have suddenly been improved would be in order? This is the best chance we've had for many seasons to get promotion, I hope the board aren't stuck in a groove and expect Wilder to create miracles without further backing.

Latest news evidently is that Bradford will reject or already have rejected our bid....

Hanson doesn't fill me with anticipation or excitement BUT as evidenced in yesterday's match v Gillingham a lot of the time we get the ball wide, we're desperate to put a ball in, but there's no-one to aim for so we constantly play it on the floor only for their CBs to mop it up and "'ave it!". A player LIKE Hanson will double the range of options the wide men have. Play the pass or play the cross. I believe it's what we're crying out for up front.

Like I said before, we have too many Aganas and no Deanes

We have no Agana's or Deano's, if we did we would spank teams for 6 every week with the amount of possession and chances we create. Would dearly love a Stan the man at the back also.

How dare you come up in with your rational opinions and strong arguments good sir!

This is a place for torches and pitchforks!

But that issue is with the board not CW. CW is working with what he has available.
Understood, but if that is truly the case the board are effectively saying the are only prepared to spend peanuts and if it doesn't work they are happy to stay in league 1. Many managers in that situation wouldn't hang around long if a better offer came in.

If I remember correctly, recent accounts showed a player wage bill of approximately 7 million and player sales and purchases almost balancing each other out. 400k is small in that context and the real problem here is maybe our club's choice to have a large squad of mediocre palyers and often with some past their best. Many other successful clubs with lower gates go for smaller squads but buy young up and coming players, bring them on and occassionally sell on a few to finance themselves.

Take Scott Hogan to Brentford for 700k and now worth 15 million, we could have bought him and pocketed the dosh but we often go for the old cart horses instead. If I think of every small club above us some of them got there by such a shrewd buying and selling model and others by just having a rich owner.

400 k is nothing for a team with championship ambitions and a strategy where potential quality is more important than lots of mediocre bums on seats.

Sure CW has the right intentions but if the board can't see they need to invest properly at the right time they are wasting their time and ours.

Take your point though, the BDTBL suits are the issue.

Seems like this deal will happen if we can agree terms and the above report is correct, and they have proved to be on the money before. I wonder if McNulty or Clarke will be leaving as a result. Mixed views on Hanson but for the rest of this season I think he'll do a job and that's the main thing, stuff next season, we just need a consistent partner for Billy although Hanson's record isn't prolific but he should caused plenty of problems at this level even if he doesn't score.

I know one thing for sure. There's been plenty of occasions over the last few seasons where we've bemoaned the fact that we have no ariel threat from open play because our strikers are either a/ too short or b/ tall enough but can't jump and weak as in Higdon and Sammon.

Hanson isn't like that. He will get the knock-downs and he could chip in with 6 or 7 goals. I'm not say that he should be a nailed on starter but he will give us an option from the bench that in my opinion we definitely need.

Just been told that Hanson has signed tonight. From nearly as close to CW as you could get. Should be announced tomorrow.

Lets give the fella a chance eh? Imagine how you'd feel the night before you started a new job, and all this bobar was going on?

I remember a few years ago we signed a young un from Donny for £30K and another from Watford for £50K. Mind you, they turned out to be rubbish dint they??? Thank God we dint have these forums then eh?

Up dem beautiful Blades.

Good news pal, I think he'll do us a job. UTB!

I think someone like him is what we have been lacking, a tall and physical presence at the top of the pitch that scores with his head, we get to many crosses and set pieces wasted because we lack that forward player that will launch himself into it, Hanson will do that and with our midfield and wing backs I should think he would get alot better assistance than he did at Bradford, i don't expect him to be a player who's going to score goals left right and centre but he will get a few if he gets the right service.

He's scored 4 goals in 20 appearances. That makes him twice as potent as anybody in our strike force apart from Shsrp.

If we got the the top of the league with Done up front then I'm hopeful we could do at least as well with Hanson. I'd fancy him to score more and keep the ball in the opposition's half more than Done, and it's hardly like we'd lose much in terms of link up and getting in behind defenders. The dynamic would be different though and maybe teams would play higher up against us. Maybe Hanson's presence will encourage the midfielders to get forward more.

Need a "pie-muncher" up front.
