Bryan Robson is lining up an audacious bid to take Everton misfit James Beattie to Sheffield United.

Robson is determined to find a proven target man as the focal point for his attack this season as he bids to get United back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

Scroll down to read more:

Beattie has struggled at Everton since his £6million move from Southampton and his confidence has taken a bashing with the fact he has not scored a goal from open play since March 2006 — but Robson believes he and assistant Brian Kidd can re-shape Beattie into the England international he once was.

Beattie, at Everton's training camp in Los Angeles yesterday, said: "Last year was a bad season for me. I won't shy away from that fact. It's the first season my goals total hasn't got into double figures. But who is going to look backwards?"

Blackburn and Middlesbrough have both expressed interest in Beattie but as back-up if other deals fall through.

Everton manager David Moyes is demanding £4m for the 28-year-old and needs the cash for his own rebuilding but Robson will not be put off by that figure as he looks to add two more Premier League quality players to his squad.

What do you rekon?? could do a sterling job in the championship i think

would of been a good signing if we didnt already have 7 strikers

Couldn't agree more, especially with Hulse coming back, I wonder if he has noticed that the midfield might be a tad in need of some strengthening, or is it just my humble opinion.

Would be a great signing if it wasn't for the fact that he is complete bobbins.
Never mind cow's arses and banjos, he struggles to hit the ground with his arse. And for four million quid? Waste of money. Last season Beattie managed, from 33 games, to score the grand total of TWO goals. Jags scored four for us last season, let's give Everton the four mill and get him back. He managed to score twice as many goals as Beattie did.

Agreed

Plus we dont need anymore strikers.

Even if we didn't have any strikers, I would rather be diagnosed with Bubonic Plague than sign Beattie. We'd do better getting Alan Woodward to come out of retirement, or signing Jake out of The Tweenies.

I like the fact that the above article mentions a 'proven target man', and then goes on to say that Beattie hasn't scored from open play since March 2006. That proves something, certainly.

I hope it's not true. We could probably get a good midfielder for that amount of money.

For the amount of money that Beattie is actually worth, according to FIFA (or my mate the other day, can't remember which one, we'd been drinking) you would only get a small bag from the Woolworth's pick 'n' mix.

.

hes not worth the 4 million, in order to sign him i think robson would have to get rid of a few strikers since we have about 8 atm

please don't sign this guy he is not worth 4 million

I would much rather play sharp and sign a class act in midfield or a winger

or pay a man united prem stars wages for a season who has got something to prove:cry2:

waste of money we have too many stikers plus he aint worth £500,000 never mind £4 million

£4 million on that crock of shite?

why?

arn't hulse, sharpe, stead, webber, nade, shelton good enough?

Santa Cruz has gone to Blackburn for less and he is a far better striker.

Fucking hell Robbo talk about paying over the odds for him.

Now I know we'll all be behind him and all that, but his history of being a chequebook manager worries the shit out of me. I'm glad the nucleus of the squad has stayed, because had he had to rebuild from scratch, McCabe would already be wandering round, hands outstretched like a smack rat near Fargate.

Beattie confirmed interest from OS.................

Everton target man James Beattie has been confirmed by manager Bryan Robson as a Sheffield United transfer target.

The Club had initially tried to keep their interest quiet but with news having been leaked out elsewhere Robson ended the speculation at the Open Day at the Lane on Sunday.

He admitted that a £4 million bid had been submitted, and also confirmed that highly rated Australian midfielder David Carney was also being lined up for talks in the near future.

The Blades boss has made it clear that he still wants to bring in at least two more players before the league season begin on 11 August.

So we get £4million from Everton for our best player.
and give them £5million back for a ageing defender who they don't want and (if it goes through) a Striker who has scored that many in the last few years.

WHo's getting the better deal here???

Personally think he will be a good signing for us. if he costs 4 million and gets us back up thats money well spent. I can see where some are commin from we have way to many strikers. lets see shall we

From BBC website: Everton have accepted a £4m offer from Sheffield United for James Beattie. (The Independent)

I'd definitely settle for this. Beattie has had a bad time of it at Everton but if he drops down a division I think he'll see it as a last-chance saloon. Hopefully it will also signal the exit of a couple of our other strikers...

This was before the interest in Beattie was shown though.

I'd rather keep Hulse though than bring in Beattie.

I think we have enough up front for the Championship with what we've got.
I don't want us to sign Beattie.
But it's up to Robson and I will back whatever he thinks is best for United, so long as we win the league by Christmas and don't conceed any goals and Thrash the Pigs Home and away and play attractive football and get to both cup finals :D :D :D

I agree Sensi

Its good we are pushing the boat out for players BUT Beattie isnt a player we need right now. It looks like wages are going to be the stumbling block anyway from what ive read.

I guess its just good to be linked with decent players for a change. :)

I agree with Sensi too. Cant see why we need him really with 7 other strikers, unless some are on their way out?
