There was so many stand out performances today it is hard to single anyone out for special praise. But for me one player who hardly ever gets noticed on the pitch is one of the big reasons behind our surge and that man is Jake Wright. He won't get the headlines, he won't even get out of his own half (even for a corner) but what he brings is what we have been missing for a long time. He controls the movement of the back line, tells them where to stand, who to mark, when to go, when to stay, he is the calming influence over EEL and young O'Connell, he never stops talking and directing, in fact I would go as far as saying he owns everything in his own half of the pitch. Fleck was outstanding today but for once lost possession 30 yards out, the Vale opportunity went to waste but it was noticeable to see Wright have a little word with him, point out what he should have done and then pat him on the back.
Sharp is the captain, but this guy is the leader.
