Don't like to single them out, but...

Communication, decision making and confidence from the keeper.

Organisation and calmness from Wright (look so much more well drilled when he plays).

Calmness and getting nearly the complete game from Coutts.

Makes such a difference to the panicking, quiet, lack of spine we've been recently used to.

Foxy, I could hear Moore from the kop in the second half shouting instructions, it's a huge change being well organised at the back.. but, we have told the board over and over about sorting the back four out in recent seasons... glad they've done it this season..

All of the back three are in their perfect positions. It's a perfect balance. That helps an awful lot.

This is a great point and is absolutely crucial to make 3 at the back work.

The last time we used the system with any prolonged success was the first few months under Spackman. That back three of McGrath with Holdsworth and Tiler either side was very similar in make up to our current back three.

Obviously you need the rest of the side to make it work too but these three are crucial.

Jake Wright is the most important player at the club at the moment. Might sound like a daft statement, but its true (IMO).

He is the defender that allows us to play 3-5-2, none of the other 3 CB's have the qualities JW does to carry out that role - plus, they have qualities needed where they are currently stationed.

Technically he's probably in the the weaker cohort of our squad, but playing the sweeper role means what he does possess (leadership, marshalling, reading of the game) more than make up for this, plus with JOC and EEL flanking him, its pretty much a perfect set up.

Put him in a 4-4-2 where both CBs are usually asked to pick up a striker and he looks exposed and we look a bit weak there.

3-5-2 is our way forward, and he is the key to that. Hopefully we can get some similar cover in when the window opens.

His strengths cover the Weakneeses of EEL and O'Connell
And EEL and O'Connell's strengths cover the weakenesss of Wright.

Hold my hands up, I though Wright was signed as a faithful Donkey who'd sit in stands most of the season. He's actually quality, he'd be awful in a two but in a three he plays a key role.

I think that was actually wilders plan, but we didn't sign our targets so he's had his chance.And took it.

Strikes me as a very Warnock type signing right now. Here's a limited player the manager's worked with before and knows how to use very effectively. We're not asking him to do any more than the bit he's clearly quite good at.

It does make a difference.

I remember when Tony Agana joined he said he came into pro football at a late age
And is so happy and grateful to join a club as big as Sheff Utd.

Bob Booker said he played most his career at Brentford playing in front of small crowds in the lower leagues
So he's so appreciative of Dave Bassett to bring him to such a big club. He said he really appreciates the opportinity and can gaurantee the fans he'all give 100%.

It's this type of attitude that keeps the team grounded and helps creates team spirit.

During the Checker Fraud trophy games, with the crowd being smaller, you could hear Moore above the noise of the crowd, non stop shouting. When our lads were closing in on goal he was shouting to our midfield pointing out where an opposition player was lurking, ready to pounce if the chance of a counter appeared.

You are right with Moore's shouting - a pal of mine sits on the kop and he calls him "Gobby" - really good to see. My nipper says he can hear him from middle of South stand, but my ears aren't that good.
Really can't see why ALL goal keepers won't do it - it's just common sense really............hello George.....................

I wouldn't sacrifice either Fleck or Wright for the sake of bringing Basham back into the starting line-up, since both are very in-form at the moment.

Although if I'm being honest, I don't particularly rate Basham that highly anyway personally.

Indeed – it's one of a number of changes through the heavily revised plan that thankfully Wilder was bold enough to go to quickly rather than stubbornly persevere with (as some of his predecessors would have done). We've seen plenty of instances over the past where some of the more successful elements in the team arose after initially being a distant plan B. The Chief was initially behind Iffy Onuora when they both signed, Jags wasn't originally intended to be a right-back, Naughton was only given a run when Sun Jihai ruined his chances etc. There's an element of luck behind a lot of unexpected successes.

I’ve always liked Basham but for me, form dictates selection so I’d go with the same 11 that played Vale assuming JOC is back fit. Basham will get his chance before too long I’m sure.

Said a few times on here, it is no coincidence our good run started when Wright was given the shirt. Leader, organiser, and gets a good tackle in. Exactly the type of central defender we lacked for the last few seasons (as well as beast-type, which we thankfully got in Ebanks).

Can't praise Wright enough.
