I gather he is a real leader and I expect that is why he will be brought in more than anything else. Doubt he will be first choice but someone who can be good around the dressing room and step in when needed

Trust Wilders judgement on that one fully after the Adkins / Hammond debacle . My view is the bloke would walk bear foot on broken glass to come to the Lane , whereas Hammond wanted a private helicopter and did fuck all .

Building a team and culture of leaders on and off the field , with happy days.

Leaders are something we have lacked for years. Probably since Morgan and Speed retired. I think it's extremely important to have a few around the dressing room

That's why I wouldn't be against a one year contract as long as his fitness is OK, he'd clearly bring leadership and would set a good example, as well as being able to fill in at CB and LB.

It seems that O'Connell has been signed as a nailed on starter, and signing Wright, a cover player, would confirm it.

Just need one more CB to come in as first choice at the side of O'Connell now.

Right footer, 24-27 ish with a good amount of experience.

No qualms with this. Very highly regarded by Oxford fans and very well known to Wilder. I think he would be excellent backup to (hopefully) McFadzean and O'Connell, can cover at left-back, and would be a good lad to have at the club.

Looks like Wilder or Knill got the message through to the hierarchy that "pathway for youth" would get us nowhere and persuaded them to get into the maket for players. Kudos.

Think we're going to be needing some more numbers and shirts at this rate!!!!
Anyone ever worn the 100 shirt before!?!?

Is that Mcfazden and Killa out the frame then
reckon he's still in for mcfadzean given that wilson is our only right footed cb and he said he doesn't want to pull basham out of midfield for cb i think he'l still try for mcfadzean killgallon is deffo out of the frame tho as we just signed jake wright

Here's Wilders appraisal of Jake Wright on Radio Sheffield

The more I listen to this sort of talk from Mister Wilder (leaders on and off the pitch, in the dressing room) the more I am sure that McNulty is staying at BDTBL. I get the feeling that CW is putting in "old school coppers" who will give some unruly youth a clip round the ear if needed, keep them on the straight and narrow.

Hi OUFC fan here.....JW..... good solid player, gives his all....sad to see him go, starting to get niggling injuries.... maybe because of his age....he wanted to stay on with us and retire in a few years... Appleton has big plans, and JW was down the pecking order as we have equally if not better coming in

Over the years of watching United often a player who has been signed as 4th or tth choice has come in showed some fight and heart and become a cult hero at the Lane
That seemed to stop when warnock left and we signed a succession of balless mercenarys

Hope we are seeing a turnround in things like that

Sorry for resurrecting a JW thread when there is already one on page 1, but I enjoyed looking back at his, not least because I was expecting to see a load of moans about a has-been Oxford 3rd choice CH, but was pleasantly surprised to find that, on this occasion, most of us were happy with the signing and gave the manager the benefit of the doubt. We aren't always a bunch of knee-jerk reactionaries!

That said, if somebody had guessed back in July that he would have played 25 league games by now and not experienced a defeat until after Article 50 was triggered they would have been labelled as mad as a box of frogs!

All hail the League 1 Baresi!

His unbeaten spell technically goes back to Feb 16 when at Oxford, 32 appearances now in total. Quite astonishing really.

Anyone know what the record is for a player? Seem to remember someone getting into the high 30s but can't remember who.

Arsenal and Forest both went unbeaten for 40+ league games as teams, so their players must be in the frame.

Don't want to piss on your chips too much but there were two 'Jake Wright Confirmed' threads

A few more negative post's on this one:

....but not too bad as most thought he would be back-up, not leader... ;)

Paid attention to him last night. He's not the fastest but he's no slug either. However, his timing and reading of the game are both, quite frankly, a thing of beauty. He made three really well timed and crucial tackles/interceptions last night that were on a par with that quality, worldie save their keeper pulled off.
