The initial quote wasn't even about Jags. It was about that McCarthy who signed for Barnsley and said he held talks with Wilder and turned us down
 
Although there could be something in this I really cannot see anyone taking the huge hit on the salary as this would cause.
If it's true that Jags is on 50k per week then that's £2.6m for his last year at Everton. If he came to us then realistically we couldn't or wouldn't offer over £15k per week. That's a loss of £35k per week which equates to a total loss of £1.82m.
Who in their right mind is going to chuck away £1.82m for another season with us?
A large signing on fee would offset that a little but seriously those margins are too great to overcome IMO.
I'd love to be wrong but just can't see it happening. It would take a massive sacrifice on Jag's part to lose that much unless it was a loan deal.

Still wish him the very best whatever he decides.

A definitive yes or no wouldn't go amiss though would it ? - so come Tufty, what's appning mate ? :)

Whilst I don't think jags will come, for now at least I don't think it will be because of money. If he's earnt 2.6 million for 10 years then he's already got the best part of 30 million in the bank. He's not short if a few quid. Despite what you might read it's not always about money for the modern footballer.

Blimey, he must be one hell of a saver if he's turned a gross income of £26m (that's before tax) into £30m in the bank whilst buying a house, driving a car, eating, holidaying etc etc.

I need to see his financial advisor ;)

Unless Everton paid him off, so maybe 25-50% of his salary?

But I think Everton would rather he stayed as back up than buy out the last year of his contract to be honest.

I think that's exactly where it's at.

If Everton get another couple of defenders in we may see some shift in the position.

It will then come down whether Jags would rather play regularly for us or earn more elsewhere but maybe not play as much.

I don't know the lad so I have no idea which way he would be inclined to go if the situation arose.

Being reported that Everton are in the market for at least 1 new centre back.
 
Yes being paid off is a valid option. If they paid him off and demanded a fee for him then they might not be that much out of pocket. Having said that I don't think they are strapped for cash :rolleyes: so is a possibility.

Time will tell but he has 3 options...

1. Stay put
2. Move to another premium club
3. Rejoin the mighty blades

Easy one to call :p

If they pay him off he's no longer under contract and therefore Everton cannot command a fee.

Has anyone considered the possibility of a loan with Everton subsidising his salary? OK, even at 50/50 his salary would still be £25k per week but there would be no signing on fee and no transfer fee. Can't see too much of a downside in this.

He's backed himself at all odds to sign for the Blades before the season starts. ;)

You usually pay a loan fee to the lending club for loans.

Not if the loaning club want's to get him off the books to save all or part of his salary. e.g. United with Brayford.

£1.25m, in my scenario, is not to be sniffed at even for a premiership club.

The vibe I'm getting from all of this is that United would say yes to this happening and so would Jags as long as the numbers add up for all 3 parties.
It would be nice to see Jags making up a back 3 or back 4 against Brentford.
 
Has anyone thought that maybe the club are looking longer term? Jags has captained his country and is a potential future manager so maybe we could be looking at him coming in as a player coach with a view to long term succession with a playing style in mind.

Rather than what we've done in the last few years where we've flip flopped between football managers and hoofball merchants.

Chose a style of football we wish to adopt which we appear to have done and maintain this around the managers and coaches we employ.
 
Initially I thought this move was, at best, pie in the sky, at worst, total bollocks. However, it seems to be running on and on with some very cagey, obtuse interviews from Jagielka and Wilder. I just wonder whether the club is planning for the long term. The Old Liverpool model of appointing managers from within is still seen as a sound one. I can see Jagielka being brought in, trained up as a successor/partner to Wilder. Maybe that's what McCabe meant when he said, "think Liverpool".

Well................I would normally say "no chance" that a player on Jags money would come to us, or that we should pay over the odds for an old player (our old player who is also "old" in age).

But last night I ran into someone connected to SUFC and said "any news on any more new players?", and he shrugged and said "Jags might be announced next week", so maybe we are talking and there is s tumbling block?

I would think that lower half prem teams would be in for him?
