It's getting annoying now.

1. He won't be coming to the Championship. He's plenty good enough for the PL.

2. We can't afford his wages.

3. Odds are determined by betting patterns. A few Blades have probably put some money down hence the the odds will have shortened as a result.

End.
I'm not sure what's more annoying. People who don't take these valid points to account or people that point them out constantly. ;) It's like Groundhog Day on here.

I tell you what's more annoying than all of it..... multiple threads containing all of the above.

Unless his Bladeyness is through the roof.

That's one thing that isn't in doubt. He doesn't give a fuck about Sheffield United and hasn't since he he knew he was going to Everton and, unlike us, not going to be relegated.

To say he doesn't fit the profile, I believe, is wrong in all but one area. He is hungry for success, he puts his body on the line, he gives 100 % every game and is a leader irrespective of if he is captain. The only thing against him is age and resale value. However, if he is looking for a way into coaching and an insight into man management, he should look no further than Wilder and Knilly. They are amongst the best! Not THE best but top of a short list of one (as Cloughy snr once said).

My Everton supporting mate reckons he'll stay with them. Apparently his form was so good at the end of last season that they no longer want to let him go.

Everton will buy Maguire from Hull and we'll buy Jagielka with the 15% sell on clause money.

Bish bash bosh, we buy him with Evertons own money and everybody's happy.............well with the exception of Pinchy and a few others, but generally ;)

Seriously, he is a model professional, not at all 'big time' and would be a superb addition to the squad, but he's still far too good for the championship, if he comes to United it would be a decision of the heart not the head.

If we are going to buy him with Everton's own money, why don't they just give him to us and stop mucking about?

I think KM might wonder why we're paying transfer fees to Everton for an out of contract player.

At 36 at the start of the season is he one for the future ? Let`s see if we can persuade TC to get his boots back on.

I can't believe some people are even entertaining this

If the windfall from Maguire's move is added to by moves for Walker and even Adams, my money would be on serious moves for Jagielka and Gregory, as well as a perm move for EEL.

Which would leave GK cover and CM and possibly another CAM to come.

Can't understand people not wanting this to happen.

If we get 1 season off him it would be worth it. He would instantly be the best defender at the club. Do people not watch MOTD? Did they not see his performances, particularly at the end of last season.

He's earnt his money over the years. If we're doing 3-5-2 again I think he'd play Jake Wright's position very well indeed.

I'm not banking on it, but it wouldn't be a bad move. John Terry has a serious offer to consider from Birmingham. The Championship doesn't have to be the elephants graveyard for Prem players.

You'd think a bit of glory from returning to the club that made you might be an incentive over wages?

Perhaps that's too idealistic.

Totally agree. A back 3 of him, JOC and EEL/Bash would be great.

If, as it sounds like, Everton have told PJ he's free to move on they'll need to settle his remaining contract, there'd most prob be no transfer fee, meaning Utd will need to convince him to accept what they can afford, perhaps with the offer of coaching badges & experience.

Everyone talking about wages and him being on more than others in the team. Can the club still pay a signing on fee to the player or has it been banned? If they can still do it, maybe they would go down the road of paying him a signing on fee and wages in line with others. Total speculation btw.

So after all this he has a year left?

He might be free to leave, and they may give him a free transfer. But the fact his remaining year may be worth £2.5m (guess) makes it less than simple.

If we won't pay more than 10k a week, that's £500k. We are £2m away or hoping Everton would pay him off and him forgo the rest.
Everton won't stump up £2m to get rid. It would be much less, and around a million IMHO at best.

So, for that reason I'm still out. If it's 500k rolling contract then fine. Any more then we should forget it, it simply isn't worth breaking the wage structure.
