Jagielka looks like he's lost it.

I would rather not pay a fading star a fortune tbh. I would rather sign a player on their way up.

I don't get this fixation with taking nostalgia trips. Warnock, Evans, Jags. They've served their purpose, they won't a second time.
Move forwards.

As a general rule maybe, but sometimes it works, so shouldn't be ruled out entirely. I give you Billy Sharp and in the more distant past, Keith Edwards.

I'm sure Sheffield Sharks basketball team will take him on ........................ wanker.

That's right, neglect the fact that we would never have got promoted to the Prem if it wasn't for Jags.

Top player. best player of the last 15 years for the Blades.

I'd love to have him back but his wages won't allow us to so there's. It really much up for debate IMO.

A good mate is a toffee season ticket holder. Jags is still well respected up there, his legs have just gone a little this year.

You could also say we would never have been relegated had it not been for Jags

Or would we have been relegated earlier that season if it wasn't for Jags. All if's and but's, nobody knows :)

True but the value of Jake Wright has been seen alongside the younger JOC. OK, Jags is giving JW 5 years but in terms of experience and proven quality, Jags alongside, say JOC and EEL / Wilson / ANOther ?

It would have to fit in with the wage structure though although given he's had 10 years in the Prem, money shouldn't be an issue.

Jags' game was based around his pace which could cover any lapses by himself or others around him.

Looks like he has lost a yard at least in the last year, makes him half the player he was.

If you look at the season and break it down to one minute, you could.

If however you look at the whole season (of which Jagielka didn't miss a game), a sensible observer would realise that he was the difference between us nearly staying up, or finishing where Watford did.

The issue with taking players dropping down is their signing is just to add a few final feathers their retirement nest.

I think Jags has an affinity with SUFC enough to not just pitch up and go through the motions - nor do I think Wilder would entertain him if he did.

So, if he wanted a last hurrah at the lane and maybe as a path into coaching, I think he'd be an absolute monster of a signing for us.

It wont happen though as long as hes around the Everton first team.

Jags was the Championship player of the season the year we went up, he excelled in numerous positions over the years, right back, CM and CB before settling at CB.

He was an outstanding performer in the PL and captained the side on a number of occasions, we would have been dead and buried weeks before had Jags not been a Blade.

My lasting memories of Jags will be outstanding goals, his leadership during a golden time and his emergence from a 16yr old to Premier League captain, remembering one error is rather petty.

NB - I asked Jags about coming back to the Blades at the 125yr Celebration at Ponds Forge, even then i got the impression by his response he was already struggling with aches and pains.

I always thought his reading of the game was his best attribute. For a few seasons, in particular 2005, he was overweight and no pace whatsoever. Top player and great servant

Always a shame when a top player deteriorates at the end of the career. I get the feeling Jags knows his days are numbered, but what a player and career he's had. Best player I've seen in my days at the lane since roughly 2004. Not sure on his contract situation but if we do go up, would be well worth getting him in for a season, his experience and leadership would be vital. Definitely a long shot though

This is all purely speculative. The idea of paying out such a big wage for someone to play in an area that isn't even a top priority is daft.
Our resources should be going into building a team for the future, rather giving one last sentimental hurrah for a former favourite.
I have fond memories of Jagielka, he's one of the best I've seen in my time, but the past should be left where it belongs.

The Bladey-Bladeness is weak in this one.

Great player and great memories. His goal v Leeds never to be forgotten.

Nor the strike against Middlesborough.......I was walking back along Eccy road after the game with the Mrs, heading for a drink, when a bloke asked me what the game had been like "just watch match of the day mate", I said, "it will be worth it"..........

Having watched the game it was pretty obvious that Williams and Jags are too similar to be an effective partnership and that, ultimately Williams will replace Jags as the leader of the defence, once they find someone better than Funes Mori.

The idea that he's not good enough for L1 is as risible as the thought he'd be willing to play in L1 at this stage in his career.

Stuart McCall, Craig Short, Gordon Cowans and Paul McGrath weren't half bad when their legs had gone and they dropped down.

Having said that, I think we'd have to get in the Championship before Jags would consider rejoining us.

The problem for Jagielka is that I think his pace has been a very important part of his game, whereas pace didn't really figure much with McCall, Short, Cowans or McGrath. So it maybe that the ageing process is far more detrimental to him than the others.

Or it may be that those players extended their careers by dropping down a division.

Undoubtedly they did, but I think Jagielka's game will suffer more than the others through the loss of a yard or two of pace. The others never had that pace to lose in the first place.

Fuckin ell the Boro commentary is like the Fast Show. Fe, fe, fe, fe , fe, fe, fe, fe, fe, fe, Chris Waddle (fat bastard).
