Yeah these days footballers come back from serious ACL in less than a year in some cases. I can't recall many or any top class footballers who have been out for 18-24 months with an injury and ever come back at a decent level.

I am guessing the op is more about in the first instance ensuring it does not affect him for the rest of his life (mobility, moving around when older). Any kind of professional sport return would surely be a bonus after 2 years and several ops. Reminds me a bit of Dane Whitehouse who tried several times to get back but gave up in the end. That was 20 years ago too. Technology/Sports Science has come on a long way since then too.

We are very unlikely to ever him play for the Blades again. If the reports are true. Just hope ge could somehow get back to some level of league football.

Really sad when he was on the cusp of the Emgland squad I felt.

Let's wait for the club to announce something more official though but if he's on crutches then surely he has had another op.
The one I can think of who’s come back to an elite level is luke shaw but that’s taken what 4 years and a lot of setbacks

Sad to hear that he's had another op. Has any player come back from two ops and 2-years out at a high level?

Main thing is to make sure it won't have any impact on him in older age. Get it sorted properly and then see where we are.

Reyt player! The club have given us barely any information regards his injury all the way through it, they have tried to keep it under the limelight, there will be a reason for this. Gutted for the bloke and us, he’s a catastrophic miss as proved last year, we might not have stayed up but the performances wouldn’t have been as embarrassing as they were if he was playing, something has seriously gone wrong here.

It does make you wonder but we did go 4 years with barely any injuries while doing this sort of training. It was just an accident in training, sometimes the most innocuous contact can end up being the most serious.

How we responded to the injury is where fingers should start being pointed.

What’s this continual need to point fingers? Players get injured. Complications happen despite the best protocols. Surgery is never a guaranteed cure. It happens.

Unless someone who actually knows JOC’s case comments with authority on mismanagement or medical incompetence, this remains speculative guff that’s unfair to anyone involved.

I think it was the insistence of playing him while injured.

Unless someone confirms he was pressured to play despite medical advice to the contrary, I see no story.

The poor bloke’s crocked, and people need to blame something. Mistakes might well have been made, but to date, this stuff remains groundless.

The manager sees the players every day on training. We should have realized that at the point of restart if not, then bit too long after and certainly by the start of last season.
He probably did, and saw we don’t have the players to go to a back 4. I feel this point has been made many times, unless you are of the opinion that Bash could play in the PL (or championship for that matter) in a two.

As for sticking by him, I guess it’ll depend at what point both parties need to make a decision based on insurance. I’m sure the club will give him as long as they can and would continue to allow him to use our facilities wether he’s contracted to us or not.
For him, at what point will his insurance expire which I’m sure most pros would have in place to secure against a career limiting injury.

Duncan Watmore; 2 ACL's and the best part of 3 seasons out of the game i think

I think Wilder deliberately played him knowing he wasn't right so he'd get injured long term, which made us turn shit and Wilder could then cash his £4m in and run/abandon the sinking ship. Some blade

You've been watching too much Dream Team.

Shearer, Chiellini

Edit - weren't out for as long, but both had very serious injuries at potentially dodgy stages of their career and both came back just as good if not better!

It's about par for the course with Sheffield United

Outstanding player = sold cheaply

Very good player who can drive us onto the next level = career ending injury

Total shyte = Cost us a fortune because we can't get rid of them

Wilder always took the medics advice on injured players, often saying in interviews :
The player has to full fill the period required back to full fitness.
He was very strong on this and I cant beleave he would ask a player to come back early against the medics advice especially with a serious knee injury.
It is possible of course the diagnosis was wrong in that case he could have a case to sue if there was negligence.
It's unlikely of course as any medics on hear would say,he's probably been unlucky
or maybe tried to get back too quickly he is of course a fitness fanatic ( we are led to beleave) this could have worked against him.
I reckon he will be back punching his weight ( metaphorically speaking towards the end of this season
No doubting losing him had a big part to play in our demise last season

He did play again. By that time though, Furphy had brought in Jim Brown and Tommo didn't seem to fit. Maybe lost confidence.
Went to Rotherham and West Ham.
Still see that studs up foul today. And Tommo writhing in agony. Hate Marsh. Eddie Colquhoun went for Marsh, non too successfully though.
Big favourite was MacAlister, probably still is amongst us who were around then.
When he played in that Watney cup match, commentator quoted Big Ed saying he was sure this boy will play for Scotland.
Hold Tommo above other Blades keepers. Another Harris era find, and for nowt.
Silent Blade will correct any of this.
Who will forget the two penalty saves away at Derby. Was he 19 at the time or something.

careful, defamation territory
