Wilder certainly didn't deal with it , either during the injury itself or replacing him when he finally accepted JoC was fucked

He did well at Charlton and West Ham paid £500,000 for him which was a decent fee in the early 90s. Sure he then got another serious injury not long after going to WH and maybe retired?

He was a very important member of the squad, wasn't he in the dressing room at Leicester even though he wasn't playing at all?

Played a big part in the away win at Oldham.
Just looked and he got injured in pre season training for West Ham so never played a game for them, edit he managed a few games two years later.

Didn’t he score a flying header against Cardiff in THAT 5-1 win ? And possibly against Everton in that FA Cup 2-1 win ?

Fairly sure I heard Neill Collins (?) cheekbone going in a home game against Scunthorpe. Same game in which Shaun Miller ruptured his ACL.

God, I'd forgotten that, didn't he play up front with Deano that game or am I losing it? Was that his only game?

Cardiff was a volley. Brum was the diving header. Everton was the equaliser heading in a Woody left footed cross

He was up front that game but sure he played other games that season in midfield or defence.
 

To date we haven’t replaced him, but it’s going to happen this summer.

If it’s all gone well and he’s out for only another 6 months then he has the remainder of the season to get back to to speed. Plus pre season and be back fighting for a spot with 1 year left on his contract.. if it’s 12 or longer then he has issues.

one thing that could happen and really hope it doesn’t, is he comes back does well let’s his contract expire and moves on that would be the ultimate piss take.. worse than Kenny

Yeah these days footballers come back from serious ACL in less than a year in some cases. I can't recall many or any top class footballers who have been out for 18-24 months with an injury and ever come back at a decent level.

I am guessing the op is more about in the first instance ensuring it does not affect him for the rest of his life (mobility, moving around when older). Any kind of professional sport return would surely be a bonus after 2 years and several ops. Reminds me a bit of Dane Whitehouse who tried several times to get back but gave up in the end. That was 20 years ago too. Technology/Sports Science has come on a long way since then too.

We are very unlikely to ever him play for the Blades again. If the reports are true. Just hope ge could somehow get back to some level of league football.

Really sad when he was on the cusp of the Emgland squad I felt.

Let's wait for the club to announce something more official though but if he's on crutches then surely he has had another op.
 
So so sad… it’s even worse that it happened in a training game.

In hindsight these full on ’old school’ training games.., shin pad Thursday I believe they nicknamed them, that the previous regime had in place might have sounded macho and tough but not the wisest thing to have indulged in.

It does make you wonder but we did go 4 years with barely any injuries while doing this sort of training. It was just an accident in training, sometimes the most innocuous contact can end up being the most serious.

How we responded to the injury is where fingers should start being pointed.
