I'm 38 and have been lucky enough to see United play and beat all the best and biggest clubs in the country, all in the league with the exception of Arsenal who we beat in the cup.

I've seen United take it to Arsenal in a cup semi, I've seen us score in a semi, I've seen us win at Hillsboro in the top flight - all of this in the last 21 years or so.

OK we were awful when I first got into United but we had Edwards, we had Deano and Agana last time we were in the pub league. Times were different I admit, football was more fun etc.

Who do the kids have to admire now? Micheal Doyle, Cresswell, Flynny. Thank god for Longy, someone who it is a pleasure to watch at the moment. Character building yet and I really hope for their sakes that in time they get to see us playing on level terms against the best in the country. If we do go up, we'll have Collins and Doyle as starters and we know what they are like in second tier - it makes me feel sick the thought of it.

These kids who sit with their dads at the moment will see nowt like it unless our repulsive property speculator leaves this once proud club.

We definitely beat Arsenal in Prem. 1-0, Nade scored and Jagielka kept goal for 25 mins.

I had you down as a miserable old geezer Mic.

You're still wet behind the ears.

Clive Dunn, who karked it t'other day, made a living playing doddering old twats from a very young age. He proved that it's possible for someone not even into their forties to come across as a right old fecker.

Until recently I was under the assumption that the inimitable Mr. Dunn would forever be the bestest at acting like an old twat, miserable or indeed not, but it seems there is a new challenger to the title. Now, if someone can possibly persuade Olle to don a scarf and act a bit Pike-y, rather than banging on about his shed and coming across like a bit of a pikey, then we could have the start of a promising tribute act.;)

Foxy as Captain Mainwaring, anyone?:D

And Kyle Walker was apparently a ball-boy that night too.

Kyle Walker said:
Walker said: "I'm a Sheffield United boy, so it was Brian Deane when I started to support them. But then when I fell back into defence it was Phil Jagielka. He was a hero of mine.
"I remember one game, when he scored against Leeds in the League Cup. He took it down on his chest and volleyed it from 25 yards and it went into the corner - I was jumping up and down in the Family Stand.
"A few years later [December 2006], when he went in goal for the last half-hour and kept out Arsenal [United won 1-0], I was the ball-boy behind the net - and he kept on telling me to slow down!

I'm 32 and when I started watching we were in an immensely worse position than this.

The ground was a state. Our youth set up was a state. We played ugly football. There was no hope.

And then out of nowhere, we climbed... and climbed.... and climbed.

But there were still problems. As there are now. As there will always be.

The kids now have got it easy.

And genuinely Mic, you're a 38 year old man and you seem to take glee at these trolling threads.

Oh, you'll claim they're not, but of course they are. All the depressive dirges (that of course aren't without basis) that you post could quite easily be grouped into one thread rather than the whinging spree that you go on every other week.

Maybe the reaction gives you a semi or something. Maybe time to reach for those little blue pills instead mate.

Ha ha Micalijo I'm 35, born in '77 and the first 10 years of my life we were mostly around the lower two divisions of English football... Amazingly from such a bad start in life we made it twice to the PL, so why do the kids need to worry.

Football is a big wheel, sure the top fee sides in the Premier league have not changed that much, but the rest of the football league has been up and down the leagues over the years. Aston Villa for example, once a top 6 challenger are now languishing at the bottom end of the premier league. forest were European champions in the 80's but have messed around in the championship and L1 for years. it happens.

I wouldn't worry about the kids, it's those with little time left that I worry about, some will never see us win a cup, the PL, Europa Cup and the Champions League. The kids have all this to look forward to in 48 years.

Keep trolling fella.

My 2 lads love going to football, and the fact that it's a real club where they aren't surrounded by johnny come lately's every week. The only thing that spoils it for them is the moaning old bastards who sit right behind them, talking about the good old days.

IF THE KIDS ARE UNITED
THEY WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED:cool:

I'm only 20 and brother is 16, we've been going since the late 90's. So things have defiantly improved since then. As when i started the first manager i witnessed at the lane was Adrian Heath!!!

You know, when my dad started taking me we had Deane, Booker, Gannon etc. I remember him saying "I used to watch Doc Pace, Mick Jones, Alan Woodward, and Tony Currie, how am I supposed to get excited about this?" But I still have a poster of the first United squad I ever saw on my wall and my memories of that bunch of hoofers and cloggers are just as happy as his memories of the Northern Intermediate winning side. Itll be the same for kids now when they are our age.

It been shit, sometimes its been great and it will be great again. Thats why I support Sheffield United and not Man U etc. I want a real club and with that comes good times and bad. Like real life. Get used to it.

Spot on Bladesway - trouble is, when you've been doing it for 50+ years, you don't have any tits left for it to get on....

Hang on, I can feel one coming on, COYRAWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see where you are coming from MIC with this post but i think this is football as a whole mate i am afraid. I am not going to get into the whole McCabe thing etc thats your area and i'll leave you to it. Money has ruined football simply as that in my eyes, there is far to much at stake now players are bitter and twisted on the pitch so much pressure and massive bonuses at stake hence the current race row. I feel i was quite lucky born in 82 started going down the lane in 1988/90 season and had my first season ticket in 1989/90 in the top flight. That was when teams who came up stood a chance even with no money, we didn't win a game until xmas and still stayed up, could you see that happening now? i doubt it. I have obviously have seen many highs and low from then until now, cups semis, playoff finals/semi finals, promotions, relegations and the famous BOBL. In my opinion i don't see how any kids can have football idols nowadays as players are greedy and bad role models eg balotelli, now i know you are only talking about united and any player who is any good gets sold on but that is football now it is the case with us, teams like palace will no doubt lose that zaha to a big club, even the likes of Everton can't hold on to stars. This is one of the biggest reason i have fallon out of love with football, i will always love united that goes without saying and will go down the lane as much as possible but as for other football i have recently cancelled my sky sports package for that reason don't see the point and it just angers me. I can catch all the goals on the net or sports news so i don't miss anything.

Love united hate what football has become.
