Its the humane thing to do

Call me old fashioned but I want my team to win every game they play and be as successful as they can in every game. Furthermore when we don’t then it pisses me off, even more so when it was a game where we should be winning.

I wanted Mcburnie and maybe Traore to get off the mark last night and for the latter see that boost in the mindset by scoring your first goal for your new club.

I wanted some of the fringe players to really make their mark and give the manager some difficult decisions for the weekend

I wanted us to be one step closer to a final to keep me dreaming that one day I may witness that

I simply can’t fathom this “only the cup” attitude

It is one of them that will drag on arguments for and against. It does give some fans the chance to see relatively cheap football and watch their team albeit with a smaller crowd and lesser squad and smaller opposition. On the flip side the amount of money in the Premier League has taken the value out of all the cup competitions. Although I still like the FA Cup even that isn't what it used to be. The FA/EFL aren't radical enough to have a full think through, it is an easy process and format to follow. If it was like an in or out type of vote I personally would prefer out regardless of any result mainly because of the extra fixtures and it not being included in a season ticket.

I’m amazed it went on for so long as a 2 legged competition in the early rounds. Remember us beating Lincoln 6-1 then going to the return at their place, a 1-0 defeat.

I think the only shake up they can give it as this point is throwing some Scottish sides in the mix for some excitement and a chance to tick off new grounds.

It’s never going to be killed off though as the majority of the EFL clubs aren’t going to turn down the potential for extra revenue + it’s the chance for minutes in the tank for young players stockpiled by big clubs.

We all know if we've had a dog. The time comes when the humane thing to do is hold your dog for the last time as the vet gives it the injection to stop the pain

It's surely time to do the humane thing and put the League Cup to sleep.
10 /11 k gates at both Sheffield clubs
30% of the norm
Teamsfull of bench warmers
And games of such dullness and lack of care

Please .for Gods sake . Do the right thing
Shit BTL. Didn't get to the second paragraph due to the first one getting me blubbering😭😭😭

When I'm in charge of football, I will:

Merge the Carabao and League Cup into one competition.

Clubs qualified for European Competition are excluded.

Final only at Wembley. Single leg semis at a neutral venue.

Winners get Europa League qualification. Runners up get the spot if the winners qualify via PL position.

This opens up a proper chance of meaningful silverware and European qualification to teams outside the top 6 or 7 in any given era and reduces the gap between 'them' and 'the rest'.

I'd like to see the County Cup re-introduced.

Great chance of seeing us win something.

Its a good competitive game to get extra minutes on the pitch.

It does annoy me how few teams take the cup seriously especially in this day and age when most teams have no hope of realistically ever winning the premier league. A league season is long, if you rotate around a cup game you have lots of opportunities to make up for any points lost whereas if you're poor in the cup that's it.

The thing is you don't even have to be that good in the cup to make it to later rounds and get the big games. The cups are a genuine chance of silverware for most teams: Leicester, Watford, Villa, Wigan, Hull, Stoke, Portsmouth, Cardiff, Palace, Milwall, Southampton, Sunderland, Bradford, Birmingham, Bolton have all been in a FA or League Cup Final in the past 20 years or so. Even we've been to several semis and we've been rubbish for most of that.

Ultimately, barring horrendous ownership and proper existential threats, relegation doesn't matter. As a fan, bad seasons are bad, good seasons are good. Promotions are fun, relegation isn't, either way we'll still be going/watching/supporting. We've been up and down the leagues for many years in the past and will continue to be for many years in the future.

Cup games could be great occasions with real jeopardy and the tantalising prospect of success. The later rounds often are, the Blackburn game last year is proof of that, but because so many championship sides are chasing premier league money and finishing one place higher in the league is a bigger financial incentive most teams don't care until the later rounds. And even then they're still more likely to rotate for the cup.

Is there really anyone who didn't enjoy our cup run last year? And we still managed to get promoted alongside it - it's really not that hard. If the early rounds were taken seriously and stronger sides were put out, more people would turn up.

I agree with all of that and any team that wears the Blades shirt at all levels and genders.

How can getting rid of the league cup possibly benefit the club or the fans? There are only downsides to it.

Smaller crowds, fringe players and poorer quality games have been the norm for the early rounds of both cups for decades. How is no cup games at all better?

Take premier league teams out of it, that'd make it interesting.

Or make it only for clubs who aren't in Europe

Plus cheap tickets and high loyalty points and you're golden

I think the older generation who knew football before the EFL Cup have a lesser view.

People like myself have only ever known football with the league cup, and personally I would be ecstatic if we won it. I'd go as far to say I'd rather win it than the Europa Conference League.

Realistically what else can we possibly win? If we survive this season and continue to progress it remains our best chance of winning a trophy. The early rounds are always like this but put a run together. I am 62 and have never seen us win anything that would mean as much as winning this. I was there last night it was rubbish. Hands up on here, how many who think this competition should be scrapped would not attend the final if we got there?
What about the 4th division title and the League one title ?

I've been watching us since the 3 Cup semi finals v Leicester in 61 and we've won precisely Diddly squat

So actually winning something is not really what it's about is it

Disagree completely, our club should perform better and take the opportunity to eventually play in bigger matches and build a winning culture. Ask Birmingham, Boro, Swansea, Luton, Norwich and even the pigs how little winning that trophy meant to them.
