Filthy rich owners who are throwing money at us .

We'll , that's according to Coventry City fans on their forum .

Is that how the fans of other teams really see us in this League ? Or is this appraisal of our owners made in relative terms ??

I thought our chairman was a rapacious money whoring crook who is determined to destroy our once proud Club . The man who sells all our of better players and never replaces like for like ? A man who has cynically manipulated his control of the Club ready for a brand new Aldi being built where the centre spot is now .

Well , he is , isn't he ?

Many will know that I'm not McCabe's biggest fan, but I still think he's a decent man who desperately wants success for the club so that he can go out on a high.

His main weakness as a football club owner (IMO) is not having a clear plan and having the confidence or strength of character to see it through. Too much chopping and changing direction and staff, with obviously some poor recruitment both on the footballing side and the general management.

The only time that I would (and I did) challenge him about whether a decision of his was for the benefit of the football club was the signing of Robson. I don't think that decision was anything to do with progressing the club, and it was more about improving the image of his then burgeoning overseas empire, and we paid for it for years, maybe we still are.

So do I believe that he's a 'rapacious money whoring crook who is determined to destroy our once proud club', hell no? Do I believe that we could do far worse hell yes, but do I still think we could do a lot better..hell yes!

its just finding some billionair prepared to blow millions upon millions thats the tricky bit
chelsea and man city won the lottery in this regard
but we as a club have never had the backing, in 50 years of watching us theres always been jealous of other clubs spending power
watched leeds buy their good years
blackburn prosper from major investment , but they too have now lost it
bolton too had investment thats now disappeared
and many more
some clubs have boards where 2 3 even 4 plough money in
we struggle on with a millionair
we never come close to being in dire straits, for that Im grateful

but would like more fresh investment , who wouldnt

They've had NINE years of SISU and are still protesting.

God Speed the next nine with them at the helm and the next and the next and the next....

This protesting lark ain't working well in Coventry.

We had more luck with the 'Shoes Off Car Park' aftermatch shenanigans.

Football owes us nothing, we owe football nothing.

Just hope someone's calling us the Man City of the Championship next season

doubt if wed go on the pitch , darent damage the Desso, we all know it was expensive

be shoes off again in the car park

Solution: you can invade the pitch but take your shoes off first, if you remember to bring your slippers these can be worn. Please leave shoes in an orderly fashion beside the pitch for ease of recovery later.

just wonder if the situation had been in reverse and a Blade had wrote an open letter to the Coventry local press what would have happened?
I suspect it would have been laughed at and gone in the bin.

somebody posted a link to their local rag and the write up on the game was comically biased (Sharp's 'tap in' won the game) so you're right, their local paper supports the local team, as it should be.

The Coventry fan that wrote his open (whinging) letter to the star made two points about SISU:

- SISU sell all their best players
- SISU fail to invest in the team

On these two points alone, we could have some fun looking at the last two seasons, we could also place ourselves in the same boat....

We have sold 2 of our best young players (both internationally capped)
Had to sell/ release/ cancel contracts of half our squad
Sacked a manager with a track record for progress to the Premier league from this division
Released Adkins 'star player' Hammond

We've replaced them with
- Ageing Striker in Clarke and a reserve player fromWednesday
- Built a squad on the cheap (compared to the previous players) relying on free transfers like fleck and shite like Coutts and Basham. Freeman was playing League 2 last year.
- Become reliant on loan players like EEL, Lafferty and Harry Chapman, the latter being injury prone
- Brought in a manager with no record of promotion from this division, but League 2, preparing us for relegation
- When they have invested its been on the Desso pitch and apparently we play long ball, so what was the point in that.

Its all about perspective and perception, but we're cutting our cloth in this division too, we just so happen to have owners with patience for a return on their investment and they have a manager with experience which allows us to spend less, but in the right areas.

Had we kept Adkins we'd still be the Man City of the division, but we'd be in the same position (or worse than) Coventry.

I seem to remember the last game of last season's 'view from' and Coventry fans, taking the piss out of how poor we were.

Had they got a stable on field situation (ie a decent League 1 manager), then they might've been further up the league. But i guess its hard to manage a football team with awful fans like that.

Get that sent in to Coventry Gazette !

This isn't an anti McCabe statement as like you guys I feel he has our best interest at heart; but

1. We are a division lower than when he took over.
2. Sheff Utd no longer owns it's ground (which it did when he took over).
3. We've been in this division 6 years now the longest in our history.
4. Every season we have sold our best player(s).

It's as if they think we've never been in their situation, the difference is we are currently heading in the right direction but we all know how quickly that can turn around (last month we thought Bradford were the biggest threat now they get barely a mention! )

It's an interesting point you make and of course begs the question of whether or not the only true test of a chairman's worth is on field first team fortunes ?

If you do feel that the position the first team finds itself in is the only way to measure the success or otherwise of a particular chairman then you must conclude the McCabe ' s tenure has been a failure . We ARE in a league lower than when he first took over . Employing the same rationale , however , if we are promoted this season then McCabe's tenure has been at best ( or worst ) indifferent .

Taken to extremes , the same rationale , has been used by some who cite the experiences of clubs like Portsmouth who splashed the cash , enjoyed their day in the sun but now find themselves in a very uncertain situation due to severe financial difficulties because they splashed the cash ? Is the example of clubs like Portsmouth a true gauge of success ? Personally speaking , I don't think it is .

For me , right now , I believe our Clubs infrastructure is the best it's ever been . Our Academy is simply first rate . Admission prices and facilities at the Lane are excellent and this has led to our attendances being consistently the best ( in relative terms ) in my 40 years supporting the club . BUT , when all is said and done we are still in a league lower than when McCabe took over .

In conclusion I'm firmly of the opinion that if we are promoted this season a review of McCabe tenure at the helm would be on of relative success .

How does the context of the game compare to Charlton not even a month ago.

Charlton didn't sabotage the game in the closing minutes. That's the point I was making, Swiss.

At the beginning is ok. With a small amount of time left with us really needing to win to pressure the top two is selfish and simply not on.

Thank goodness justice was done.

Exactly! We're seen as the villains, but apparently we observed the Charlton protest impeccably.

So the context of the scoreline is irrelevant. If the protest was done right, it would have respect. Just like Charltons got.... despite it disrupting the game a little it wasn't at a crucial stage of the game
