It took some time

What we actually need is two first-choice centre-backs, both tall and powerful enough to deal with modern strikers. Joe Shaw? Yes, great player, but his immediate opponent would typically be 5-10 or 5-11 not 6-3.

If Terry Kennedy can hold down a place competing against good quality for the spot, so be it - great. Like all players, however, he is a means to the end; not the objective. Some of you, I'm afraid, have got a bit carried away on this one, much like Louis Reed.

It's a tough one because everyone must admit mistakes have been made, however he has stuck to his principles and the players he wants to bring. Well as far as we know. I think we can see where these principles have cost us, so we just need to wait and see where this leaves us on the 31st May. I was all for letting him go if we didn't get promotion, but we are too far down the line with his plan, so could cost us further years. I can see more benefit of him staying if he learns from his mistakes

I expect the squad players he brought in like Alcock, JCR, Higdon, McEverley etc will be gone in the summer now he has managed to bring his players in. A quality centrehalf and either a fit Wallace or new box to box midfielder will be needed whatever division we are in.

Indeed, and my hobby horse all season.

if it was a problem when we brought in Paddy - it was still a problem when he left Dec 31st and it's still a problem now.

Has Clough ever answered the question as to why TK is now the only recognised CH who will actually play? Presuming Mcgahey is deemed NGE yet.

Bladesman , agree but beggars cant be chooses , and we made our bed , so got to lay in it , and all that jazz . Clough now has to work with what he has got and assembled . He and we will stand or fall by his decisions . This slightly out of there preferred position thing is a worry , and could be our achilles heal. In saying that , we are IMO better than most in the run in , and confidence should now be high , whoever puts the shirt on . Its were they play , that is the key.

Beggars can't be chooses but there are flaws in our squad that are hard to ignore. We will see what happens.

I reckon this season can be summed-up by the statement that our future-season squad building looks much more sound than the single season decisions we've made this term.

I still think we'll reap the benefits of Clough's long-termism, but where we've needed quick-fixes we've not found them quickly enough. A play-off defeat will necessitate a good start to next season or else Clough will be on borrowed time.

Yes, we now have many ways of being ineffective

We have some good players in the squad, and better than any other team in the league in terms of depth and ability. However, as said earlier in the thread, it's a very disjointed one. If we'd had an extra couple of good CBs all season I believe we'd be in the top 2.
